Tampons - With or without Applicator - correct poll

Contributor: Rin (aka Nire) Rin (aka Nire)
I'm from the U.S.A., and while I don't use tampons anymore (I'm a cupper), I used to use them at night and I generally got the digital kind.

I did use the applicator style for a bit after I accidentally picked up someone else's shopping bag at Target (being lazy, I didn't unpack it, and never realized it wasn't mine until I went looking for my tampons weeks later) and figured I might as well try them. They were okay, but they made me feel even dryer than the digital tampons did.

If I had to use tampons again, I'd avoid the ones with applicators - turns out, while probably rare, it's possible for a tampon to get moldy even in its packaging. With the applicator, you'd probably never see it until after it had already been in your body.

I just prefer it with the applicator if I have to use one at all.

I have never heard of tampons that didn't have an applicator.

I'm from Europe and have tried non-applicator but usually opt for applicator ones as I find them easier.

I use both; but I actually do prefer the ones you use with your finger. I feel like using the applicator can be a little painful so I try to use the ones I like better!

I prefer tampons with applicators, I just had too much trouble when I was young with a non-applicators to go back.

Back when I used tampons, I only ever used the applicator-free kind. I could never successfully insert one with an applicator. Now I have a Lunette cup, which is so much better for me.

I've actually done this kind of recently. I had a tampon slide out of its sleeve and couldn't put it back in so i tried to insert it. I'm going to stick with applicators. It was so rough against my insides and I couldn't get it to fit comfortably or as deep as it needed to go, plus it is too messy. I only use tamps with smooth plastic applicators with soft tips.

I'm american. I've used both applicators and non-applicator tampons.

I really prefer to use a plastic applicator and find that carboard applicators and no applicators are essentially the same.

For me, I find it really hard to get a tampon in because my vagina can get so dry. Plastic applicators just have less drag.

Also, sometimes it can be awkward if you wash your hands only to realize 10 minutes later you have a little bit of blood underneath your fingernail or something

I don't use them anymore, but I used non-applicator styles. Why have extra trash?

I don't even know how you would use a tampon without an applicator, but it sounds interesting. Probably not for me though, as I can't even use the cardboard ones comfortably.

usa and I always use an applicator, didn't know they made them without. But I wouldn't want to try it without... sounds a whole lot messier and harder to insert. :/

From USA and without! I love the OB tampons. Less mess and less waste And much more discreet/easy to store.

when i used tampons i would generally get the ones with a smooth plastic applicator, but found that insertion can sometimes postion the tampon in a weird angle and would hurt, unlike the type you insert digitally, where you have a little more control on where the tampon goes. I didnt really have a preference, the types with applicators just happened to be more easily accessible then the other.
