Perfect for a beginner's bottom.

Butt plug by Tantus

Published: October 2, 2008
extremely useful review
The Slim by Tantus is a wonderful tool to have while opening up the doors of anal play. The size is perfect for beginners, and the soft silicone is comfortable and easy to clean. This sexy little plug has no smell, no taste, and can be sterilized for safe sharing. This is the best plug for beginners that I have seen to date.
Pros:
Hygienically superior platinum grade silicone, perfect for first anal toy, sterilizable, comfortable
Cons:
Base gets uncomfortable during extended periods of wear
Rating by reviewer:
This toy was definitely designed
The name says it all. The Slim by Tantus is, well…slim. This thin butt plug is only 1 inch in diameter at the widest point, and 4 1/2 inches in insertable length. While the size wouldn’t be very satisfying to an intermediate or more experienced anal player, the size is perfect for those new to anal play. I can’t think of a plug that would be more perfectly suited to those just beginning to explore the wonderful world of anal pleasure.

The size is not the only reason this plug would be perfect for beginners. The material has many great attributes to it as well. Tantus is known for their superior platinum grade silicone toys, but they are also known for those said toys being very firm. Well, Tantus is branching away from that and are now making some toys that are incredibly soft and pliable. This little plug can be bent so the tip is touching the base (although I wouldn’t recommend doing this on a regular basis). I can squeeze it in my hand and feel an amazing amount of give. It is still stiff enough to make penetration effortless, but is comfortable and pleasurable at the same time. The Slim has a matte finish and is velvety smooth to the touch. It doesn’t smell, nor does it retain scent after being cleaned. It is also taste free, for those of us who enjoy oral pleasure from toys prior to inserting them (on a sterile toy only please).

This toy stays in place better than I was expecting it to. Usually a thin neck and thick shaft mean that it will stay put well. This toy has a neck that is quite close in size to the body of the shaft. Mind you that it does need held in place while climaxing, or else it will become torpedo-like, but it doesn’t constantly slip out during sex either.

The base is 1 inch wide and 2 1/4 inches long. The base is quite comfortable for short term wear, but will start to dig into my butt cheeks during extended wear. My husband also found the base got uncomfortable after about 15 minutes of use. I believe the reason for this is that the sides of the base aren’t rounded to meet the bottom of the base. If it were rounded, like it is on the top of the base instead of square-ish, then it would most likely not be a problem.

Being of 100% Platinum grade Silicone, this toy is very easy to care for. You can wash it with mild soap and water, or you can use your favorite toy cleaner. I prefer Before and After Toy Cleaner. 100% silicone can also be sterilized, which is also easy and you have three options on how to do this. Boil for 3 minutes, wipe down with a 10% bleach solution then water rinse, or toss into the dishwasher on the top rack with no soap. If you plan on sharing this toy with a partner (or between orifices of the same person) then it is a must to sterilize in between. I like to sterilize every week or two, just to keep my toys as clean as possible. With proper care, the Slim will last a life time.

When it comes to storing this toy, I would suggest enclosing it in something to keep it separated from your other toys. Silicone can react with silicone, and toys can melt together. This not only applies to 100% silicone toys, but any toy that has silicone in it, like TPR silicone, and some skin like materials such as cyberskin.
Experience
Personal lubricants make any sexual encounter more comfortable, but a good quality lube becomes a necessity for fun and comfortable anal play. While my personal preference is the thick and long lasting water based Maximus, I understand that many people enjoy silicone based lubes for anal penetration. I took this into mind, and tested my silicone lubes with the Slim. You can easily do this by putting a tiny amount of silicone based lube in an inconspicuous area, such as the bottom of the base. If the lube is compatible nothing will happen, however if it is not compatible it will begin to melt and cause the toy to become tacky. If this happens, scrape of the silicone lube as quickly as you can, and avoid using it on that toy again.

I tested 3 lubes on this toy, all with similar results. Eros Pjur (recommended by Tantus), Pink, and System JO personal anal lubricant, all were problem free. None of these three lubes had any reaction with the toy, and I would say they are safe to use with it. I would still recommend doing your own spot test, before using a silicone lube on a silicone toy just to be sure.

Butt plugs can be a great way to spice up your sex life, no matter your gender, sexual orientation, or relationship status. They can be used alone, or with other toys, during sex with a partner, during masturbation, or even worn while grocery shopping. Butt plugs open up a new realm of sexual pleasure, and the Slim by Tantus is a great place to start.

Excellent review again, Bulma. It's nice that Tantus is making the toys a little more pliable. Thanks for mentioning testing with silicone lube and extended wear comfort. Those are big things in my choice of butt plugs. The base and neck sound like they are not quite as nice as the Ryder (my personal favorite), but it sounds like a great plug for a beginner.

Thank you Jimbo Jones :) The Ryder is a better choice for extended wear, and I doubt I'll ever find a plug with a base that will rival it, as it has excellent design. The Slim would be perfect for a first anal toy. I wish I had been so lucky as to have this for my first anal play experience. Thanks for the comment :)

This is great! The Ryder was a little large for me to wear during intercourse. I may need to try this! :) Thanks for the review!

You're very welcome :) Just be warned that while it stays in place fairly well, some caution is still needed during intercourse. It seemed to stay in better for my husband than it did for me, but it was much better than the Buddy by Vixen is as far as that goes.

Oh yay! I've been looking for an inexpensive silicone plug for a long while. Glad to see another reviewer doing a spot test! I try to with every pure silicone or silicone composite toy I have but I'll be damned, my heart sinks when the material starts to get gummy and I realize it's water based only lube from then on out.

Bulma I love your reviews you cover a broad spectrum of different toys and other items. When do you find so much time to write and play? And you have invested a good chunk of dollars. The cost of pleasure is infinate as long as it doesn't crimp the pocket book.

Thank you for the compliment, it is very much appreciated.
While I don't get a whole lot of time away from my kids, I try to make time to play twice per day. I usually have some time during the early morning, and evenings are reserved for an hour or two with my husband. Most of my writing is done while my children are taking naps or are having some quiet time watching a movie. Most of my free time goes into time on here actually. I have slowed down dramatically on new toys too, as hubby had a job change and we are still adjusting to it. I think my collection of toys is pretty fun though :)

What's Platinum grade silicone? Is it somehow different from Medical Grade? I must know!

Platinum grade, medical grade, 100%...they all mean the same thing, pure silicone. Tantus does claim their silicone is superior though, so maybe they thought platinum sounded better than medical :)

I think I'll put this on my wish list. I'm relatively new to anal pleasure, but even if I wasn't, I'd like slimmer plugs and toys. Is it any thicker than, say, a quarter at its widest point?

Bulma (verified)

It may be just the tiniest bit larger than a quarter, I would suggest checking out the "actual size" feature to get a better idea of size. To me it feels a lot like a finger.
