When you need something gentler
If you're looking for a simple pair of restraints, these Sportsheets silky restraints would be a good choice. They're pleasing to the eye, simple to use, and comfortable.Published: December 4, 2011
Pros:
Elegant looking, comfortable, affordable
Cons:
Not very secure for those looking for heavy bondage
These silky restraints from Sportsheets came as a pair inside of a box. The fact that they come in pairs works out nicely. The set is very affordable. They're made of silk and come in black and red. The box didn't come with an instruction manual, but the photo on the box showed a model with the restraints tied around her wrists. Where you want to use them is up to you! They feel very smooth and are comfortable during use, not scratchy or itchy. They are a little more sensual than your average cuffs or restraints, which is nice if you want to switch things up a little.
They are 48" (four feet) long and four inches wide. Besides of the width, they can be used for a nice blindfold. You could use these to tie up someone's wrists, ankles, or any other body parts you want to keep secured. You could also use them to secure someone to a bed frame or other piece of furniture. If you were feeling extra creative, you could fasten them into a cloth gag. These silk restraints aren't a serious set of restraints by any means, but if you're looking for a gentle bondage device, this would be a good pick. They could be a fun addition to foreplay fun, or used during sex to restrain your partner.
These restraints are quiet and discreet, definitely travel friendly- you could carry them around without screaming "I'm got BDSM gear on me!". They'd be ideal for a situation where bringing along heavy bondage gear wasn't an option, such as a hotel room. These silk restraints very pleasing from an aesthetic level, for those intimidated by the look of chains or cuffs. Cleaning could be taken care of by hand washing, or washing in a machine on gentle and air-drying.

Follow-up commentary

Since buying these, I've used them for restraints, to be blindfolded, and as a loose 'collar'. They work well and have held up over time. I still would suggest them to anyone who is considering purchasing them.

What is the best material to use for a first time starter on this type of play?

How sure are you that you'll enjoy it? I think some of the bondage rope is supposed to me more versatile and comfy overall. I remember seeing someone post about silk sashes being a little worse than rope for some reason, something about the silk bunching up? I don't remember the details. Rope and such would probable be better for experimenting than cuffs, though. There are more uses for rope in a common vanilla household than there are for cuffs...

Great review! I love that you included the length. I was super curious about that. These are really cute, but I do wish they were longer Thank you for the nice info!
