A Very Pretty Disappointment

The Astrovibes Scorpio is a beautiful vibrator, and my praise stops there. The visual design is well thought out and striking, but I can't say the same for the mechanical design. The vibrations are not strong and are poorly located for either clitoral or g-spot stimulation, and the increase in width of the shaft is hard to get used to and sometimes painful. I really want to love this toy, and still keep it around as a conversation piece, but will probably rarely use it during my sexy time.

Use

The Astrovibes Scorpio is a very pretty toy with a fairly limited range of use. It can be used internally or externally, but it is restricted to either clitoral stimulation or penetration. It does not have the amount of firmness or shape required to work as a g-spot toy, and it doesn't have the base needed for anal play.

Material / Texture

The Astrovibes Scorpio is 100% silicone along the vibrating shaft, and the rotating dial at the base is plastic. The shaft is hard until about half-way from the base, and then becomes slightly flexible at the tip. The firmness, oddly enough, is not always consistent all the way around this toy. Towards the base of the shaft the Scorpio is very firm on the "front" of the toy (the side with the grooves and ripples), but is almost hollow on the "back." This leads to a very unsatisfying vaginal experience for me, where I only feel stimulation in half of my vagina.

The matte silicone can sometimes drag, but takes well to water-based lubes (never use silicone lubes with a silicone toy!). As with all matte finishes, however, this is a huge lint collector. After a clean, I have to be sure to either return the Scorpio to the box or cover it with plastic wrap immediately, or else the second it dries it attracts all sorts of unseemly hangers-on.

As far as the texture goes, the ridges and ripples make for a very visually interesting toy, but are truly not large enough to be felt when inserted.

Design / Shape / Size

Quick and dirty details:

Length: 7 3/4"
Insertable length: About 7"
Circumference: 5 1/4"
Diameter: 1 3/4"

I will say it a thousand times: I love the visual appeal of the Astrovibes Scorpio. The whole Astrovibes line is beautiful, and I love the concept of being able to acquire an entire zodiac of toys. That is about where my praise stops for the Scorpio, however.

First things first - this toy is pointy. And whenever someone describes something to be inserted into your vagina as "pointy" I bet you cringe, just as I do. At first I thought that I was just not used to the shape, but I have tried to love this toy time and time again, only to end up with a very painful masturbatory session.

Secondly, you might only be able to experience this pointy-ness if you can actually insert the Scorpio further than about half-way up the shaft. The Scorpio has a very thick base, and a less-than-gradual slope from the narrow tip to the base. It took A LOT of getting used to to be able to thrust this toy, and once I did, due to the pointy tip, I still did not enjoy playtime with the Scorpio.

Functions / Performance / Controls

The vibrations of the Scorpio are actually quite discrete; the noise is muffled by sheets, and virtually silent from the other side of a door. The epicenter of this toy is located in about the middle of the shaft, a very poor choice of location, in my opinion. If you prefer a wide area of stimulation on your clitoris, this might be a great toy for you, but I found the wide-vibrational field to just mute the vibrations to a level that were dissatisfying on my clitoris. If the vibrations had been located in the tip this would be an excellent clitoral stimulator, as the pointy tip could give you pin-point stimulation, or you could lay the flat of the tip on your clitoris for a wider-spread area of stimulation.

As far as vaginal stimulation goes, the vibrations are in a spot which rarely ever makes it inside of me. As previously mentioned, the sharp grade of width increase from the tip to base makes it very hard for me to fully insert this toy, and thus the vibrations rarely ever make it anywhere near my g-spot. Again, I would have preferred the vibrations to be closer to the tip so that I could have more control over which part of my vagina was being stimulated.

The controls are one of the few pluses I have about this vibrator. The dial is very easy to use; it has a nice, ridged texture to it that results in a surface with enough friction that even lubed-up hands can get a grip. The transition from low vibrations to the more intense speeds is smooth and gradual, making for a very easy-to-customize vibrational experience. There are no vibration patterns available, just solid vibrations from a low to a moderately-high speed.

Care and Maintenance

Please note that the Astrovibes Scorpio is NOT WATERPROOF, and thus, even though it is silicone and plastic, can not simply be submerged or boiled to clean. The easiest ways to clean this vibrator are to hold it under hot running water and clean with a anti-bacterial soap, or attack it with cleaning wipes or a 10% bleach solution. Be careful to avoid the plastic base, as the seams between the dial and the base can easily let water into the battery chamber.

The Astrovibes Scorpio is actually very frustrating the clean as it has many small ridges and nooks that love to trap lube and vaginal fluid. I've found that the best way to clean out those ridges (which you should make sure to do thoroughly after every use), is to go at them with a fingernail or toothpick, being careful not to damage the silicone. Q-tips have proven to be just too wide to be effective.

Although the the Astrovibes Scorpio is 100% silicone, it is hard to sterilize, due to the aforementioned fluid-trapping ridges and inability to be boiled. Therefore I recommend that if you decide to share this toy with a partner you use a condom.

Packaging

Fun Factory always does a fantastic job with their packaging. The entire Astrovibes line comes in a relatively discreet blue and gray box with a front flap that reveals a window so that you can view the toy inside. The inside of the flap provides many details about the toy in several languages, and is in general a very pleasing package.

Another plus of the box that the Scorpio comes in is that it works well for storage. The box itself is a little larger than the vibrator, but not so much that it will take up a significantly larger amount of space in your storage location.

The box is also recyclable, once you take out the small magnets in the flaps. This can easily be done using scissors, and then the magnets can be reused on a fridge or a white board.
    • Good for storage
    • Recyclable
    • Very informative

Personal comments

I bought this toy because it was beautiful, Scorpio themed (I take pride in my sign!), and at the right price. I don't regret this purchase one bit, but I won't lie and say that I was satisfied. This vibrator makes a very pretty addition to my toy collection, and is a wonderful conversation piece. When friends find out that I have an extensive collection of sex toys they usually ask to see a few, and I always show off my Astrovibes Scorpio. I rarely, however, actually use this toy in my masturbation sessions. It simply offers nothing special as far as stimulation - I have other toys that hit my g-spot better, are more pleasurable shapes, and provide more satisfying clitoral stimulation.

Lovely review I bought the Astrovibes Taurus and have to say that my experience was very similar. Love the look, but it's definitely not a favourite for use. More uncomfortable than anything, really.

Yeah, it's really unfortunate that the whole line just doesn't seem to be as functional as they are pretty to look at. But honestly, I like the look of it so much so that at least counts for something :-P

I purchased the pisces and love the shape, though it is big, but also had trouble with vibration locations.
