It's great when using it slowly, or at the tip, so that you get outstanding stimulations with each stroke. In my experience, placing it between my bed frame and mattress for hands-free use was amazing. However, doing this for too many nights and I began to lose interest in the position, so I think once every other night or so may be best.

The texture feels nice, but to get the best stimulation, the front part is best for that. However, without lubrication, you will get a lot of friction and it will be unusable.
