Camu Meh

I personally like thicker, heavier lotions and this is not one of them. My main qualm with this product is that it takes about two minutes to rub in in before it stops looking white and streaky like sunscreen. If you like topical, light lotions this may be for you, but I personally would go for something a bit denser that protects and heals the skin on a deeper level.

Use

This product is sold as a basic, all-purpose body lotion. It is part of a much larger ritual the company had created that is supposed to help you become sexier and have healthier skin, but all of the products can also be used just fine on their own. This lotion lists that it is supposed to "nourish and rejuvenate skin."

You can use this all over your body, but because of the ingredients I wouldn't recommend using it on the genitals or on your face. You also might not want to use it on any areas of your skin that are already irritated in case it makes it worse or burns a bit.

This lotion looks and smells like it is meant for both men and women. It doesn't have flowers or girls in pink dresses on it, and the label just has a red lace pattern over a dark orange background. It then says that it's a lotion and it states that it has aphrodisiacs in it. I don't think that this would be a particularly feminine looking lotion if a guy kept it on his desk.

The ingredients are as follows:

Purified Water, Heptyl Undecylenate, Cetearyl Olivate, Sorbitan Olivate, Carthamus Tinctorius (Safflower) Oil, Propanediol, Saccharide Isomerate, Caffeine, Maltodextrin, Sodium Hyaluronate, Beta Glucan, Panthenol, Hydrolyzed Vegetable Protein, Allantoin, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Extract, Xanthan Gum, Disodium EDTA, Algae Oil, Passion Fruit (Passiflora Edulis) Seed Oil, Rice Bran (Oriza Sativa) Oil, Açaí (Euterpe Oleracea) pulp Oil, Babassu (Orbignya Oleifera) Seed Oil, Tocopheryl Acetate (Vitamin E), Xanthan Gum, Phenoxyethanol, Ethylhexylglycerin, Myrciaria Dubia (Camu Camu) Fruit, Fragrance

Because there are so many ingredients on here that you don't normally encounter (algae oil?) I would HIGHLY recommend doing a small spot test before you use this lotion on a large scale. Especially with interesting ingredients like this there's a chance that you'll have a reaction to something you didn't think that you would.

Texture / Consistency / Thickness / Viscosity

This lotion is pretty darned thin compared to what I am used to using. In defense of this lotion I usually use either body butters or lotions with shea butter bases because I really like something thick that easily soaks into my skin and lasts a long time, but I know that there are a lot of people who enjoy a lighter, more topical lotion.

When you first squirt this lotion on to your skin it is a bit runny. If you squirt this onto your hand and then let it sit at an angle it will run down your arm or drip off. This means that it's a good idea to squirt this into your hand and then rub it into your skin instead of the other way around.

Once you start to rub it in you'll find that it's a bit difficult to get your skin to absorb it right away. When you start rubbing it looks a lot like sunscreen and it leaves little white streaks all over the place but if you just keep rubbing for a few minutes it does all get absorbed into your skin after a while.

After it's been absorbed into your skin, it does stay greasy for a short while. It's not greasy enough for it to rub off onto your clothing but it's enough to leave a noticeable shine on your skin and make it feel a bit slicker. After about 10 minutes it gets to the point where you skin just looks and feels a bit softer than before you applied it.

This is me just squirting a pump on my wrist and then holding it up so you can get a better idea of the viscosity.

Taste / Aroma

These lotions, it turns out, aren't as much named after the scent but are rather named after the aphrodisiac they contain. Because of this they do vary by scent from one batch to the other, so my description of the scent may not be the same as the one you get if you happen to order it.

This lotion comes in several different varieties, but I decided to go with 'camu camu' because it sounded interesting and I wanted to see what camu camu smelled like. It also seemed to be the favorite scent to those that have tried several different varieties from this line.

While the scent may differ because the aphrodisiac changes, there seems to be a trend to how this lotion smells. It isn't a fruity or floral scent, even though Camu Camu is apparently a fruit. I can best describe it as a musky, woodsy, vanilla. It's fairly dark in tone, but it also is soft.

My boyfriend is more fond of this scent than I am, but I am still going to be getting a body spray or perfume in this scent just because it's hard to find smells that he genuinely likes. His main comment is that it smells 'foresty,' so I think that's on track with the notes that I'm smelling.

I wouldn't recommend ingesting this because of some of the ingredients, but if you do it doesn't taste bad per say, but just leaves an oily feel in your mouth. If you end up kissing it off or anything it's not terrible, but still try to avoid it.

Overall this scent is nice, I just wish that I could smell it for more than a few minutes. After application I found that the smell almost entirely faded in about 10 minutes, and that I could barley smell it if I tried real hard and held my skin to my nose. Because of this I'm going to seek out a product that will have a longer lasting scent.

Performance

This product is a bit of a bummer for me as far as performance goes. After I spend 2 minutes of my morning rubbing this into my skin and making sure that I have no little white streaks anywhere, the least I expect is for all-day moisture and protection. Unfortunately this lotion is just too topical and light for that.

I found that after a few hours this lotion started to wear off, and about halfway through the day I felt like I could make due with a reapplication. I personally found that the drug store lotion and this stuff last a similar amount of time, but that the drug store lotion was about half of the price.

This lotion does leave your skin feeling a bit softer than before you applied it, but since I live in such a harsh climate for my skin just making it a bit softer isn't enough. I feel like if you don't live in a desert you may like this better because it won't leave your skin feeling weighed down or muggy.

As far as using this as a perfume, see my above issue with the scent. If this was a lame lotion but a great perfume I could forgive its failings, but as it is it just isn't up to par for making my skin soft or for making me smell pretty.

This lotion is easy to wash off with soap and water. After you scrub down the area with soap you also can't smell the lingering scent at all. This is a good thing to know in case you end up being sensitive to the scent or you end up having an adverse reaction.

Packaging

This lotion came from Eden wrapped in a tied plastic bag. I love that Eden ships liquid products like this because they have the potential of leaking and making a mess of whatever other goodies you may have ordered at the same time. With this product it wasn't needed because it didn't leak at all.

The bottle this comes in is made of a soft-but-sturdy plastic. It fits well in my hand, and the pump top that comes with it is very easy to depress and is a good width to push with my fingers. Something that I really appreciate is that this has a lock on the pump top that you can use if you want to toss this into an overnighter. I wouldn't recommend packing this in a bag that will get tossed around a lot because it may leak, but otherwise you should be fine.

It describes the product on the packaging, states the scent, and also gives some basic directions for use. It also has a full list of all of the ingredients. I wouldn't hesitate to give this as a gift if you know someone likes lotions like this because it's a great looking product.

Experience

I WANTED to like this lotion so much. The ingredients seems nice, and I am fascinated by the idea of having so many different aphrodisiacs to choose from. I got this lotion hoping that it would leave me smelling nice and looking great, but I found that it wasn't even up to par with my drug-store lotion I use every fay out of the shower.

This product is for those who really don't like heavy products. Living in the desert and having my skin always be dry, flaky, and under constant attack by the sun I really want something that can get in deep and help to heal and protect my skin. This lotion didn't do that, and to make it worse I could barley smell the scent at all.

I am giving this product 3 out of 5 stars. If it was just hard to rub in and didn't help heal my skin I may take a star off because of my personal choice, but I don't really see the point in selling so many different varieties of this lotion if you can't smell them a few minutes after you put them on. This one will be finding a new home, for sure.
