A basic, reasonable lube

It's a decent lube for basic sex but probably not the best for lengthy extended play. It won't destroy your toys and it definitely won't break the bank.
Published: March 18, 2010
Pros:
Good value, basic, multipurpose, easy access tube, does its job well.
Cons:
Taste, not easily available in drug stores.

useful review
I first tried this lube many years ago when it was offered at my local Planned Parenthood. I had been using KY up until that point and after discovering ID Glide, I immediately switched. In fact, it was a steal then at $7 for the 4oz tube. They also had condoms ten for a dollar... those prices just couldn't be beat. They eventually stopped carrying it and I could only find it in adult stores after that, which is why I'm so glad that it's offered here! This was my lube of choice for at least three years.

I think it's best to describe this lube in relation to KY. ID Glide is better than KY in every way (and I've tried at least three types of KY!). Let's start off with packaging: it's no frills and clear so you always know when you're running low. Plus it's a flip top squeezable tube for easy one handed access, no need to fumble around with a screw on cap that could easily be lost in the heat of the moment. Secondly, the lube feels natural, not stiff like toothpaste. It's slightly runnier than KY, not stringy, not greasy in any way, and lasted many sessions of an hour or more. If it does dry out, it's easily rejuvenated by a little water. It also washes off easily and doesn't stain.

And onto the not-so-good part. Since it washes off easily, it's not exactly the best for lengthy water play (still doable but not optimal). That said, it also tends to get a little flaky when it dries up, so again not the best for quick, casual sex when you've got no time to really get cleaned up before rushing off to class or work (I still did it). It also doesn't taste great but I'm not so bothered by this since not many lubes do. In case you were wondering, it's got that odd sugar-free mildly bitter taste to it, which is still better than KY in my opinion.

I wish they sold this in drugstores rather than the typical products you see because ID Glide tops them all. The reason I ended up switching is because I wanted to sample other lubes out there and I don't have space in my drawer for a dozen different partially used lubes. If I don't find anything better, I'm coming back to ID Glide.
Experience
This was my go-to lube for at least three years until I decided to sample more expensive lubes to see what the commotion was all about. I also wanted something that tasted better. But I wouldn't mind using this any day and you definitely get your money's worth.

Welcome to Eden, Slug! Nice first review. I've actually seen this lube at our local Walgreens, but that's beside the point. Does it get sticky when it dries?

  • I received a sample and want to make sure it's the real thing before writing a review.
    • I got this sample with a wholesale order:

Is this the one EF is selling in larger bottles, so can I review it?
    • It looks the same to me. If you're going to review it, do note that you have a smaller sample size tho.

I would mention that. It got pretty good ratings but it's like the worst thing I ever tried maybe 2/5. So not sure if it's just my personal preference or just plain different. Ingredients looks like the same tho. I read your durex warming review! I like that lube and use it to the day. This is far worse than that in terms of smell and performance. I got a premium silicone lube recently and I can finally understand why people gave 2/5 to the durex warming :) But I like it anyway, it's different. But made me realize what tacky really means and now I got a better picture.

  • Why is this product not sold in the same types of containers?
    • I am wondering why the different weights are sold in different containers. The 17.5 oz. container looks the best, but costs more. The 4 oz bottle looks weird, and I don't like it. They should be sold in same-looking containers. Any comments? Agreements?

I'd noticed that, too, and I think it's a bit odd. I think it'd be much better if they made them all the same as you suggested. I guess they figure they're just giving people a choice in the way the lube is disposed?

The Gun Oil lube bottles look pretty much the same except for size or if it has a pump. Personally it doesn't bother me what the bottle looks like. Some I am sure are easier to conceal in a pocket or purse for the purpose of travel. Others do to their size like the one I baught being 35 oz. looks like a shampoo bottle and you could probably have out in the open as long as someone didn't take to close a look at it. I am sure they had their reasons for making the bottles the way they did.
