Too Much Hype

Despite its popularity, I found this lube to be bad, and it didn't work for me at all. Read below to see why. I like trying new things, but this soon managed to disappoint me with the smell and stickiness. Just pick something better.

Use

In theory, this lube is universal: water based so it's safe to use in all scenarios. However, I wouldn't recommend it for anything. It'll work if you have absolutely nothing better at hand and if you have a cold and can't smell things. The best situation would be using it with a male toy like the Tenga Egg that is a closed system and lacks air to let it dry. You can clean the lube off with water and the toy hopefully won't smell like it—at least my Tenga doesn't. However, I wouldn't use it for vaginal, anal, or oral sex!

It contains too many ingredients: glycerin, parabens. . . . The only pro is that it's L-arginine free. I asked people here what's wrong with that; you can check it out here.

Texture / Consistency / Thickness / Viscosity

I initially thought the consistency was very good: it's slippery at first. It's thin but doesn't drip. For me there are two types of lube: slippery and oily. The first is a thin water-based lube until it dries, and the other is the group of thicker silicone lubes and baby/massage oils. This one is the first, though sadly only for 30 seconds.

Taste / Aroma

The biggest turnoff and con of this product is the horrible smell. What's the best way to describe it? It reminds me of medical creams that come in tubes—maybe unguents or ointments (I don’t know the word.)—like the ones to treat hemorrhoids. Frankly, I didn't want to taste it, but I just licked it, and it tastes the way it smells . . .

Performance

After the initial slippery bliss of 30 seconds, it's just like your man part is wet because of water, and after 2 minutes, it dries off (with a pea-sized amount—silicones get away with that or even less, and my go-to water-based lube, Durex Warming, does well and lasts with that amount). With a few minutes in, ID Glide gets sticky. I wiped my hands and dick with a tissue, and then the residue became even stickier! I couldn't believe it; it was as if I were making wallpaper glue or something. I had to finish with another lube and then apply alcohol hand sanitizer on my hands, trying to get rid of the mess.
    • Dries up too fast
    • Gets sticky

Packaging

I received a tiny sample (about 3 uses) from a wholesale order a few months ago. I asked some people here if this is the real ID Glide because others ranked this better than me and EF sells this in different bottles. We agreed it's essentially the same. It would certainly fit in a pocket for traveling. Nevertheless, the tube itself won't do wonders if the lube inside it is bad. It doesn’t leak at all because it has a screw cap.

You can see a picture of it here.
    • Can be opened with one hand
    • Easy to use / dispense
    • Travel friendly

Experience

I first tried it with a Tenga Egg. It worked and was just OK. It didn't have too much time to dry because it's a closed system and I used half of the bottle. It was very messy in that amount and wasn't worth it.

  • I received a sample and want to make sure it's the real thing before writing a review.
    • I got this sample with a wholesale order:

Is this the one EF is selling in larger bottles, so can I review it?
    • It looks the same to me. If you're going to review it, do note that you have a smaller sample size tho.

I would mention that. It got pretty good ratings but it's like the worst thing I ever tried maybe 2/5. So not sure if it's just my personal preference or just plain different. Ingredients looks like the same tho. I read your durex warming review! I like that lube and use it to the day. This is far worse than that in terms of smell and performance. I got a premium silicone lube recently and I can finally understand why people gave 2/5 to the durex warming :) But I like it anyway, it's different. But made me realize what tacky really means and now I got a better picture.

  • Why is this product not sold in the same types of containers?
    • I am wondering why the different weights are sold in different containers. The 17.5 oz. container looks the best, but costs more. The 4 oz bottle looks weird, and I don't like it. They should be sold in same-looking containers. Any comments? Agreements?

I'd noticed that, too, and I think it's a bit odd. I think it'd be much better if they made them all the same as you suggested. I guess they figure they're just giving people a choice in the way the lube is disposed?

The Gun Oil lube bottles look pretty much the same except for size or if it has a pump. Personally it doesn't bother me what the bottle looks like. Some I am sure are easier to conceal in a pocket or purse for the purpose of travel. Others do to their size like the one I baught being 35 oz. looks like a shampoo bottle and you could probably have out in the open as long as someone didn't take to close a look at it. I am sure they had their reasons for making the bottles the way they did.
