Retro bra and panty with ruffle set - bra and panty set discontinued by Coquette - review by ~LaUr3n~

I wanted the Retro Bra and Panty set for a really long time before I bought it. It's also been sitting around since Christmas, forgotten about. One of the reasons it took me so long to purchase it is that I figured it was one of those designs that looked great on the model, but wouldn't be as flattering on me. WRONG. This design will look flattering on many women as long as you fit into the cups which are cropped a tad short. I am pleased to report that the sizing is pretty dead on. It actually runs a bit large for a Coquette large. So for women who are normally an XL and sad that this doesn't come in your size, you may just be fine in the L. YEAY! The only thing I wish were different about this set is the bows. I love them, don't get me wrong. I just wish they were detachable so this could be more versatile.

This set from Coquette has two pieces:

*Materials/Quality: Excellent, Stretchy

This set is made of 82% nylon and 18% spandex exclusive of the trim with is the giant bows. Those are satin. The material has a few different elements. For the most part, it has two layers. A black layer of lace, and an under layer of baby pink solid material. There is also some single layered mesh. All of the materials are very soft and flexible. They mold well to the body. Another nice thing about the material is that it breathes extremely well. I would consider them to be of really high quality.

Currently this product is offered in a dual pink and black version. I wish they had a nude and black to create the illusion of being see-through without actually being. The colors are girly but not over the top with the pink tone. It is soft, more along the lines of baby pink except for the trim. The trim of the ruffles is a bit darker.

*Design/craftsmanship: Great, comfortable

The top is a fancy, soft cupped bra. It has underwire that is partial. It doesn't go all the way around the cups to create "kiss" cleavage. There is no padding or shape support in the cups, just the two layers of fabric. The cups are a bit odd since they are "short". These are smaller than demi, closer to balconette cups. If you have never experienced this style, you may not like it, especially if you have larger breasts.

In the center of the two cups is a very large bow. I'm a fan of the bow above the butt, but this one is a bit much, especially since it doesn't lie where the one in the picture does. Mine is higher and covers some of my cleavage. The cups consist of the dual fabric, but on the other side of the underwire, it is mesh for the band. The straps and band are very much like you'd see on a regular bra. The straps look thick in the picture, but they are actually spaghetti straps with ruffles that make them look thicker. The ruffles create a collar across the chest and up the straps. They end half way down, in the back where they adjust. The back clasps with two rows of eye and hook fasteners. There are three size options.

The bottoms are the best part. Their wider mesh band will stretch to fit a variety of shapes. It is a hip hugger, low rider. The very top has a portion of mesh and right below that are two layers of ruffles. The ruffles will help hide a little of your hip "fluff" if you have any. The crotch part is about 3 1/2" at the very top. This is not as slim as some of Coquette's panties that tend to be too small in this area. The back has a large bow on it, like the front of the bra. This one, I love. The back of the thong is about an inch wide and sits comfortably between the cheeks. There is no pantie liner.

Normally, I'd recommend stockings and heels. I honestly think it looks better without stockings since it has so much going on anyways. I think it would be very cute if it were paired with some vintage looking heels, again, nothing too fancy.

*Cleaning/care/storage: Hand wash/plastic bag

The tag says to hand wash. I'd then hang dry or lay it to dry. The codes on the attached cardboard tag says the following: Do not tumble dry, do not iron, and do not dry clean. This piece came in a plastic bag. It is easy to store in a drawer.

*Sizing/Fit:Excellent

Coquette's panties run a little small, so when it comes to two piece sets, I usually get a large. I was larger at the time of purchase, but now this set is a bit too big for me and I plan to make alterations. Even when I weighed 15 pounds more, it fit really well, better actually. This set will fit a lot of shapes and sizes well. The biggest issue is the cup, but that will only bother some. Since this item is not from the 2011 collection, I am using the old Coquette chart, the one currently on Eden, as reference for sizing.

It should fit dress sizes 12-14, cup C, band 38-40", waist 30-32", and hip 40-42". I weigh ~142 pounds, size 7/8); curvy but fit with a ~34/36 D bra size. At the time, I weighed in the high 150's and was more like a 10, sometimes a 12 depending on style.

Even before I lost the 15 pounds, I remember putting this on and thinking I could have gotten the medium.
Now, I totally know I need the medium. The band is large and my biggest issue with this currently. This is where I plan to alter it so it is tighter. Before, I was wearing a bra with a 36 or sometimes 38 band. It still has plenty or room for larger band sizes. The cups were fine, but I wish they were cut just a tad higher or had a molded cup. If you have larger than size D breasts, you might find that you fall out. Any smaller than C, the cup might be baggy.

The panties are magical. They looked great on me then, and still look great now. There is a lot of room left for stretching without being strained. The panties easily move aside to have sex in! They hug my hips beautifully and are super cute with the bow in the back. I seriously have nothing bad to say about them.

*Conclusion: 5 Stars

This set totally deserves 5 stars. It's not my favorite because I can't wear it out under clothing, but it has a super cute and somewhat innocent look to it. My boyfriend absolutely loves this set and thinks I look beautiful in it. He gave it two thumbs up.

I still love the Retro Bra and Panty with Ruffle Set. I don't wear it as often as some of my other pieces since it can't fit under clothing, but it is still well worth the purchase. I've recommended it to a few people, and they all love it as well. It has held up really well to use and washing and has yet to show any signs of weakening or wear. The color has not faded either.
