#BuildaBetterEden - Community Planning: September 2012 - Everybody welcome!

Contributor: Ansley Ansley
Hello everyone! Think of this thread as the official Community Suggestion Box. This month, we are focusing on general ideas and suggestions. What kinds of things would you like to see on Eden? The scope is your imagination and the current restrictions of an internet forum. The mention of chat rooms is strictly prohibited.

CPM: August - 2012 - We discussed community activities. There were a couple of good suggestions and we're still open to hearing more ideas on how to get the community together and fun things to do during those times!

CPM: July - 2012 - July's meeting was about the mentor program, and we were able to snag approval for a couple of those suggestions and hope to roll those out soon.

CPM: June - 2012 - June's meeting inspired a call for some changes, some of which have been implemented, others are still to come.

CPM: May - 2012 - Lots of updates and changes were made from these suggestions!

CPM: April - 2012 - Almost all of the suggestions made in this month thread requiring changes in programming and thus time to get implemented but all suggestions have been noted and administrators will be discussing them in the next couple of weeks to see what we can get rolling in the near future.

CPM: March - 2012) - First, month long thread to discuss your ideas which include requests for a different style of sorting features for the forum to filter out discussion types or users, update the forum categories,
easier search requirements for assignments, and the option to filter what shows on your wall. In addition to those requests, there were also requests for the ability to sort people you are following by who is currently online and who is not, forum moderation to purge/delete/merge threads, and the option to not a view a contributor's activity at all but still follow them.

Where we are as of March 31st, 2012: Requests have been noted, and due to an overwhelming response from the community Edenfantasys has instituted a Forum Moderator and updated the Expectations of Conduct. Please become acquainted with the new guidelines!

CPM: 02.16.2012 - Another short meeting. I announced a few changes in how some of the meetings were going to go. - Sam

CPM: 02.02.2012 - A very short meeting, we discussed some of the new features from the update.

CPM: 01.19.2012 - We spent most of the meeting discussing the new photo uploading feature.

CPM: 01.05.2012 - We discussed things that have been brought up in the past and what their status was, and also things we could do workshops on.

One of my students made a great suggestion to me. She was asking me if there was any way to rate your mentor after taking a class with him/her. I know there have been a few threads around lately about mentors not giving feedback to students, so I thought this might be a good way to help sort that out. Plus since we rate reviews and editors, why not mentors too? Sort of like when you take a school class and at the end of the semester you say how the professor was.

I really liked the idea and thought I'd pass it along.

I would love to see a way to see more of our followers/following folks at one time. Five at a time is just not enough, plus to go through them can take a LOT of time. Maybe an option to expand the list or something along those lines.

On that note, a way to sort the wall would be awesome. It lets you assign people like "friend" or whatever. If we could sort the wall by people who are listed as "friend" or "family" or other options, that would be a big help.

I would love a "Remove All" option for the product comparison page. Sometimes I like to compare several toys and it's annoying having to remove them one at a time.

I agree with this, the other day I was trying to remove some items off the comparison list and it kept refreshing on me after doing 1-2 so then I'd have to wait until it refreshed and start all over again. An easier solution would be very nice.

I use gmail as my primary email account, and when trying to send a message to The Naked Book Club, the site gives me an error, because I do not have email set up on my computer. It would be helpful if when I click on the email link, it could just give me the email address, then I could send the email from whatever account I wanted.

Thanks!

The Naked Reader Book Club no longer exists. However, if a similar situation like that occurs, simply right click the link and you should be able to copy the email address. With Firefox, if I right click the link, then click somewhere else on the screen, I can then mouse over the link and see the address.

Great idea! I've been on EF for ~1.5 years but only "discovered" my wall about three weeks ago. I find it chaotic even though I'm watching only a few people. If I could organize my wall I'd definitely utilize it more.

This!!! I think I use the product comparison function at least once whenever I visit the site. If I spend any decent amount of time in one sitting, I know I'll utilize in multiple times. Having to remove them one by one with my slow satellite internet can be downright maddening.

All great ideas, they are also all ideas that are either somehow already in the works or things that were discussed in the past that were left sitting on the table. We'll revisit them.

I would like there to be more four buttons describing how we feel about a toy for a follow up review. Sometimes I like the toy more, or feel the same about it, or am just ambivalent.

The follow up review options are terrible! The initial score is lost and replaced by not not very helpful symbology. I would like to be able to change the rating based on the longer period of experience and how the toy performs over time. There should also be options for a 2nd or 3rd follow up description to explain why you're changing the rating.

DANG yes!!! I take quite a bit of time checking on 5 at a time and that just sucks royally! I would love for the followers list to be expanded to include alot more in one page.

i know i've mentioned this before, but I think a mentor program for bloggers would be great. Helping with all the different options. It's very difficult for some people to find all the information on their own. I've realized many people are only aware of one aspect or another and don't even know about all the other stuff.

also the edenbloggers, affiliates, etc forums are pretty dead. how about volunteers for moderators for different help forums.

If the bloggers and affiliates forums are dead, why would they need a moderator?

Questions about the program should be directed to Jenn. Her email address is jenn@edenfantasys.com

Is there a way to remove items that have already been assigned for free review from the product search page? I realize there is a "with/without reviews" option, but some items still get turned down.

I use the product search on the review dashboard for more than just looking for assignments, so I think others probably do as well.

So do I. It's a great tool. But I'm talking about when I click "for free assignment" and items still pop up that are taken, and I don't know they are until my request is cancelled.

Honestly I don't think follow-ups are useful unless people wait to do them. I don't like seeing 5-star reviews with a "I still like it" follow-up one day later. I don't feel like that is helpful. So there should be a 2 month minimum before you would be able to do a follow-up on your review. I would really like that.

Also there should be a neutral option for follow-ups. Sometimes I don't feel that I like or dislike the toy.

Thank you for reading my requests!

I'm sorry but the product search is crap when i'm searching for my monthly free assignment. I just give up after days of searching. If I click on what's available for (free assignment) why is what's not available for free assignments coming up???

I have two suggestions I'd like to throw out there.

It's very difficult for students to find products that have less than three sponsored reviews on them. Is there a way that the ones that are available could be placed in a different area? Unless it's a brand new item with no reviews on it, it's very hard and time consuming to sort through the ones that would be available.

Also, when it comes to uploading photos to reviews it ends up taking a long time because I can only do one at a time. If there was an option to upload several at once, it would save a load of time and be much easier!

Those are just a couple things I've had on my mind lately. I love Eden and I love the fact that everyone is always open to suggestions from the community! You guys ROCK!!!

My request is about the "edit option" on a newly published review - can Eden add a line in the Review Program Guidelines and/or directly inside the 'edit' page of a newly published review, stating clearly how many days the edit option is available? I and many others know we are allowed to edit our newly published reviews within a certain time period, but almost nobody knows exactly how long that duration is.

One more thought. It would be super helpful to have the option of having subfolders in our inboxes to help separate message from students, admin, etc. It take a while to can through all the messages and having folders would be super helpful!

I'd like to see a Preview Post button for our posts. I've lost count of the number of times I've got formatting wrong in reviews or comments!
