We don't have family reunions any more, because no one wants to foot the bill even a little bit. Sad but true.

What foods are you looking forward to preparing for your families, or what of your relatives' specialties are you looking forward to eating?
, I'm guessing the answer will be ... more
While we're up there we fillet the fish (speckled trout) and coat them lightly in buttermilk pancake batter (from a box), then fry them up in a ton of butter. Soo good

But with the fish I took home, I'm looking forward to trying out the recipe from the meeting a couple months ago.

It's totally my pleasure! (I got to eat so many sorbets.... )

That's quite a shame, Breezy!

And welcome, Jordan. Do you have family reunions in the summer? What foods do you typically enjoy for them?

That's why I can joke about it. We don't like each other at all. We haven't had a family reunion in twenty years and it can stay that way for all I care.

I haven't had the chance to try it yet but we brought back 28 whole fish so we're good to go now!

Stormy, it's actually pretty close to the truth. We used to have them every year when my great uncle had them on his land, every 4th of July. When he wasn't able to do that anymore, we tried to set up a cruise, lots of things. But no one cared enough to do anything.

No family reunions on my side of the family. On my father's side we never see each other, we were never really that close. On my mom's side we all live to far from each other. We try and get together here and there but it's not the whole family.

Yeah, when my grandmother died, we all stopped being forced into fearing the wrath of Queen Bitch so it didn't matter any more. Oh well, sweltering heat and poorly cooked food is never my idea of a good time.

Bonsoir!

I'm anti-family reunions. The people I want to see, I see. The people I don't… there's a good reason for it.

I'm looking forward to making Zucchini Carbonara the next time the family is all here.

Well, if everybody's families are so hard to get together with, it's a very good thing we've got each other to share recipes with, isn't it?

Friends are awesome because we get to choose them, and pick people we get along with.

And luckily we still can cook up a storm

The only person that I can't do without is my mom and that's really sad. Of course I love my brothers and most of my extended family, but it is really not worth the hassle that being around them would cause. I hope to start my own family traditions when I am working again, so that my kids get whatever they need to feel like part of a whole. If it has to be friends that we love like family so be it.

In my family, most people live pretty far apart, and there are just too many people who no one would want to attend but who we would have to invite anyway. We usually get together in small groups for holidays but that's it. Anyway I'm ready to rhubarb! One of my favorite treats is rhubarb pie, I can't wait to try rhubarb sorbet!

My grandmother is the one who's keeping us together right now but I know that when she's no longer around to do it, no one will ever see each other again.

Family is what you make of it, no one said they had to be blood.

Yesssss, it's the best.

Welcome to our cold, sticky, and delicious July Eden Cooks meeting! In honor of all the fresh fruit available during summer, and in honor of all the sweltering heat, this month we're working with sorbet.

Whether you think of sorbet as a popsicle you can eat with a spoon, or ice cream without dairy, it's absolutely a perfect summer treat. Tart refreshing juice flavors laced with just enough sugar, frozen to a smooth texture, are ready to freshen you up and cool you off whenever you need it.

Even better, you won't need your stovetop for more than ten minutes. And best yet, sorbet is fantastically easy to make. There is almost no way to do it wrong---the only hard part is deciding which flavor you want! (I couldn't decide, and made four.) It almost makes itself if you have an ice cream maker, but I don't have one, and I still have great quality sorbet and it only took a little bit of stirring.

Trivia: Rhubarb comes from the Scythian word for the Volga River ("Rha") and the Greek word for 'foreign' (you probably recognize that in its current form, "barbarian."

I usually make Loaded baked potato salad. It's one of my favorites.

Well call me a rhubarbarian! You learn something new every day! (but especially in these threads!)

I've only made ice cream before, sorbet seems much easier. If it's much less time consuming I plan to make it regularly!
