I don't have either but am looking to buy one. What are the pros and cons of each? Anyone tried both who could give a good comparison? Thanks!

Constructive discussions on Wand massagers:

Mystic Wand Versus Mini Magic Wand
Does anyone have Both the Mystic Wand and the Mini Magic Wand? If you have both of them, which one do you prefer? Both vibrators were given 4 vrooms..

Do you use your wand for anything other than sex?
I have Lelo's Smart Wand (medium) and I love it. And while I know it's sold as personal massager, I wasn't expecting that I would use it for just...

Hitachi Wands: Are they worth the hype?
Photo Credit Hitachi Wands (now called The Magic Wand Orginal) are often considered the vibrator to which no other vibrator can compare. However,..

Tenga eggs on massagers? Wow, gotta try it!
Have just read that you can be that creative and enjoy those textures in such ways as a lady, so I will definitely look into it in the future! ^^

I haven't tried the Smart Wand, but from what I've heard the Hitachi is much stronger. Hitachi is cheaper and mains-powered (which could be a good thing or a bad thing). The head of the Smart Wand is silicone, a better material than the plastic Hitachi, but you can buy silicone attachments (not sure if they would work with the Smart Wand). Not sure which is lighter or how the two compare in size, but I think the Hitachi is slightly larger. The Smart Wand is obviously better looking, but I don't know how big a part looks play in your toy choices.

I don't have the Medium, but I have the Large and I have the Hitachi. The vibrations are not the same.

Hitachi

Pros
Powerful
cheaper price
doesn't require batteries

Cons
Porous head (it's not plastic...it's a rubber)
Only two speed options
No patterns
has to plug into the wall
Large bulky toy that can't easily be used during intercourse (Solo toy mostly)

Smart Wand

Pros
Powerful
Multiple speeds and functions
Silicone
Rechargeable
Size options (Medium and Large)
Splash proof (says waterproof but open charging port)

Cons
Not as powerful as many would hope
Large bulky toy that can't easily be used during intercourse (Solo toy mostly)
Vibrates all the way down the handle (hands go numb)
Expensive

Overall it really depends on what you are looking for. I don't like either one of them as a clitoral vibrator because they can't direct vibrations directly to your clit. They just vibrate everything. I wouldn't recommend either of them, if you are looking for a vibrator to use during intercourse. They are far too large for that. If you are looking for a back massager they are good options. My pick out of the two is the Smart wand for a massager. That is the only use I have for both of them.

My Hitachi just recently bit the dust. For a while I considered buying another; it lasted forever and is more affordable. It was a bit much though, heavy after a while, and numbing. So I'm gonna give the medium sized Smart Wand a try. Gotta say, after such a large bland toy, I'm really looking forward to lightweight, waterproof, adjustable, and portable. It's in my cart, so I'll be back soon with a more informed comparison.

Great comparisons Beck!
I really love my Hitachi. It's affordable, powerful and gets the job done. There's a reason they're so popular. There are also lots of attachments you can purchase for them. I have several, and it makes them even more fun!

You should seriously consider investing in something like the Eroscillator or the Smart Wand by Lelo. The Hitachi is too intense for clitoral stimulation. At first I'm sure it felt great but it will soon counteract itself. The vibration is so intense that it will cause desensitization through nerve damage and micro-tears. You can rehabilitate the area using toys with medical grade silicone... that is the exact purpose for the Eroscillator. Please do not ever use the Hitachi for anything other than muscle relief... on the low setting.

The large Smart Wand has the advantages of being waterproof and rumblier than the Hitachi - but it's also much more expensive.

We have the Hitachi and then switched to the Eroscillator, and glad we did. It's my wife's favorite. But, I have been interested in trying the Lelo Smart Wand as well, in the size large. Many say the Hitachi attachments we have will fit.

i have both smart wands but also looking into the hitachi for the power. the smart wands are perfectly strong enough for most things but as a back massager certain spots require more power than the large smart wand. i do recommend it though as i use it more than any other toy i have.

I own a Hitachi and I'm pretty sure the "Hitachi's cause nerve damage!" thing is a myth. You will be TEMPORARILY desensitized, kinda like when your foot falls asleep, but it won't do lasting damage unless you somehow cut or sever your clitoris lol. It's totally temporary and I don't think a vibration will cause 'micro tears'. This is a super common piece of misinformation and an employee at an adult store told me the same thing (she was trying to sell me something different though lol). Idk I'd just like to see some actual medical or scientific evidence that it causes nerve damage because it's an urban legend as far as I can tell. No offense meant, just wanted to set the record straight!

I know this post is old, but I've been hunting around recently and came across this. My knowledge comes from personal research and experience in the novelty retail business for 5 years.

The Hitachi wand is by far the most well known body massager since the 70s. The materials for the head of the wand is unknown and that has been a concern for health conscious consumers (not for me personally since its a external toy). It is a wired wand with limited cord length. Its low and high vibration settings are 5,000 and 6,000 RPMs. I can not find any information on the Lelo wand RPM but from touching both it is obviously weaker, almost to a disapointment. However their are a lot of great things about lelo.

Lelo smart wands are rechargable, come with a longer warranty, quiet (the Hitachi can be uncomfortably loud in comparison), offer a variety of vibration patterns, covered in a silicone that is 100% body safe and are waterproof.

I know the Lelo smart wands will make a lot of consumers happy. But when it comes down to actual power, I think hitachi and bodywand massagers are much stronger. A lot of people need constant, powerful vibration to get there. I have owned a hitachi for 4+ years and as much as I want to move on to the superior features of Lelo Smartwands, they do NOT have the power I need! I recommend going to a local adult store if there is one near by and look at a tester for yourself. Lelo smartwands are suppose to increase power when applied any pressure but it feels flawed. I hope they upgrade the power on these, the large wand has more of a rumble effect than a high speed vibration. That is the only con I see with lelo, but the most important function for me.

Awesome comparisons everyone! I work at an adult store and help a lot of women out who have used the Hitachi and then have problems reaching orgasm with anything else because it is so overly intense. I only recommend using the Hitachi if a towel is placed between the toy and the clitoris. If you do not already need a high speed vibration to reach orgasm I wouldn’t even recommend the rumbling strength of the large smart wand. Use the medium Smart Wand instead. Another bonus to the smart wands is that they are fully adjustable in speed instead of being stuck with two speeds of power drill and jackhammer.
I too believe that the desensitizing threat of high speed toys is a myth however; reaching orgasm is a skill like any other that you must teach yourself and using something so strong makes it difficult to orgasm any other way.
The Smart Wand IS FULLY SUBMERSIBLE despite having an open port. It’s their new design on all their submersible toys. Lelo clearly states on their website that you can enjoy this toy in the bathtub. And for the skeptics out there the company I work for has tested this to guarantee the claim since other companies have fallen short on their waterproof claims.
