Floating Hearts
Cute and easy way to dress up a drink. Foolproof, provides professional looking results. May be used for ice cream, candy, pudding, etc.Published: February 5, 2010
Pros:
Easy to use, perfectly shaped hearts every time.
Cons:
None
I'm not really into cutesy, but I liked the idea of making an ordinary drink seem more special. This ice cube tray serves that purpose well. I was a little bit concerned because it is made of silicone and sometimes silicone pans are unstable. There was no need for concern because it is stable even when it is empty.
The first time that I filled it with water, it produced a tray full of neat, perfectly shaped ice cube hearts. There were no air bubbles or other imperfections in the heart shaped cubes and they lasted quite a while even though they are thinner than ordinary ice cubes.
It is fun to vary the color of the ice cubes to coordinate with the beverage in which they will float. Carbonated beverages make interesting cubes. It is possible to swirl a contrasting colored liquid in the base liquid for a twisted effect. A design can be painted inside the mold and frozen, then covered with a coordinating colored, opaque liquid for the look of hand-painted china. A tie-dyed effect can be created by pulling threads of several denser liquids through a less-dense base liquid. Adding cornstarch, kuzu, arrowroot, xanthan gum or other thickeners makes a liquid more dense and easier to manipulate. Then food coloring may be added to each liquid. A beverage stirrer or fork moves the liquid about into interesting designs.
I look forward to using the Heart Shaped Ice Cube Tray for homemade candy, ice cream, jello, pudding and perhaps little tea cakes as well. It would also lend itself to the production of homemade soap, candles and wax tarts. The tray is reasonably priced and can be used in a multitude of ways. Add a little romance to your after-work cocktail. Add some spice to your pre-bed routine by leaving a few heart shaped homemade chocolates on your love's pillow. The possibilities are only limited by your imagination.

This looks really fun!
I was thinking this would make a great chocolate mold
Nice review!
How hard was it to get the cubes out? I know some rave about silicone, and some say it breaks the cubes.
nice review!
Nice review, thanks!
@all: Thanks! I'm glad that you appreciate my review.
@J's Alley I had no trouble getting the cubes out. It can be helpful to use a small amount of cooking oil on the tray or rub a piece of fresh lemon rind on the inside of the tray before filling it.
Wonderful review!
