Jumbo cock-tail straw - gags discontinued by Cal Exotics - review by Breas

The Jumbo Cock-Tail Straw by Cal Exotics is available in the colours black or magenta. I had purchased the black straw. The packaging to the product is quite simple. The straw sits in a plastic baggy, which has a cardboard piece closure stapled at the very top of it. The cardboard piece states the company name, product name, material of straw, company website, and company contact information. There is also a cartoon image of a female holding a drink on the cardboard. The packaging is not ideal for storing the straw. I just keep mine in a drawer.



The straw is made of polyethylene, which is plastic. I had previously reviewed the smaller penis straws and they are made of the same material. When I had looked into the material safety, I had found contradicting information. I’ve copy and pasted the information I wrote in my other review below.

One website stated that polyethylene is a “suspected human carcinogen”. A carcinogen is an agent that causes cancer. I had then looked at Cancer.org. I searched the page that states general information about carcinogens but didn’t find any information stating that polyethylene was a risk.

Unlike the smaller straws that I had previously reviewed, you only get one straw for $7.99. The Playful Party Straws come in a set of 10. So for an extra dollar, you get 10 rather than one. Of course, they are much smaller but as far as value goes you’re better off getting the ten. The playful party straws cost .90 cents apiece if you divide $8.99 by ten.

If you’re purchasing gag straws for a party or similar event, you may want to purchase the smaller ones so you spend less money. The straws would be great for a bachelorette party, girls night in/out, birthday, or just a straw to use in your drink by yourself. Below are two size comparison photos of the straw. The first shows you the straw beside a 500mL bottle of water as well as a 355mL can of pop. The penis has a smiley face on it. It’s rather humorous. The shaft of the penis is accordion-style so you can make it as short, or as long as you’d like. The length of the shaft is shortest at ¾ of an inch and can be stretched out to reach a length of 2 ¼ inches.



The accordion-style shaft allows the user to bend the penis any which way. The straw, head, and shaft are not flexible. The plastic is thick and durable. The straw is reusable as long as you’re not biting it or trying to flex the straw in half. If you bite into the straw or try to bend it, you may end up puncturing/breaking it.



There is a seam line to the plastic that runs vertically up each side of the straw. This seam line runs up the balls, accordion-style shaft, and head. The straw hole is quite large. The diameter of the hole at the bottom of the straw is ½ of an inch. The hole at the top of the straw is a bit smaller, with a diameter of only ¼ of an inch.

The straw has a 2-inch circumference. The total length of the straw (including the penis part of it) is just less than 11 inches. That measurement is with the accordion-style shaft at it’s smallest. The balls of the penis have a length of 1 1/8 inches and a width of 2 1/8 inches at their widest. The head of the penis measures 1 ¾ inches in length and a circumference of just less than 4 ½ inches.

With the straw having such a large circumference, I wasn’t able to put it into a can of pop without scraping up the plastic. You can see the damage that I did to the straw in the photo below.



The best use for the straw would be to use it in an actual cup or mug. You’ll want to use a large glass with the straw since it has quite the length to it. The glass that you see in the photo below measures 5 1/8 inches tall.

With the balls of the penis being slightly slanted, it holds a bit of liquid when you drink through it. It doesn’t hold much but you need to tip the straw forward to get the liquid out of it. Other than the balls holding a bit of liquid, the straw functions perfectly. It’s easy to drink through and I didn’t notice any issues when using it.

The straw is easy to clean with a bit of soapy water. I don’t own a dishwasher so I’m not sure how well it holds up during dishwasher use but it’s fine to wash with hot water and soap. As I had mentioned earlier, the straw can be reused as long as you aren’t too rough with it.

Overall, I’m happy with the straw. I find that the price is a bit expensive for only one straw but it’s good quality and should last for many uses. I’d recommend the smaller straws over this one though because the balls don’t hold liquid, they’re smaller so they’re more functional in cans of pop, etc, and you get better value for the price. The Jumbo Straw is nice but it’s a little too expensive for what it is (in my opinion). I’ve deducted one star for the high price of the item.
