Assficionados Rejoice!
I am a fan of this toy; it is exactly the dimensions and size I wanted from a large size 'warm-up' style plug. It's silicone--a personal requirement for my ass toys--and it's fantastic.Published: November 12, 2008
Pros:
This large ass toy is gently tapered to help you ease into the size.
Cons:
Not designed to stay in place, better used as a "stretching out" toy.
The Ringo from Tantus is quite the intimidating chunk of silicone. With a diameter of 2 ¼” at it's widest point, and a hefty weight as well, it's hard to believe its the sort of thing one wants in one's ass. But think again!
Those who have dabbled a fair amount in ass play will appreciate that there are generally small, medium and large butt toys (well, and then all sorts of XL, but that's beyond the scope of today's review). Toys falling in the large category–over, say, 2” across–are few and far between. Especially if you're picky like me and want silicone and nothing but. There are some standards of large size butt play–the A-bomb, the Doc Johnson classic–but behold, the epitome of ass play shapes in silicone, a taper with no equal–Ringo.
When I want to stretch wide, Ringo is my friend. Ringo's spade-style shape means that the taper is very gradual–starting from a very minor 0.5”. Ringo will go as slow as you want; the great thing about this shape is that even if you're not ready to take the whole thing, you can play with the taper, sliding in as much as you feel comfortable doing. Ringo is my warm-up of choice per A bomb, or other large anal toy. Ringo is the necessary bridge.
As a plug, Ringo is too heavy and too weight-centered on the bottom/base. Also, design-wise, Ringo doesn't taper down too drastically after the widest point. Heavy weight, a poor “handle” for your ass to hang onto...it won't stay out on its own. But, that's not really what it's designed for–this toy is designed to have a slow taper down its length, and that alone dictates that the plug won't stay put.
As with any good silicone toy, it can be boiled or wiped with a 10% bleach solution to sterilize, and I strongly suggest doing that prior to sharing/on a regular basis.

Experience
The first time I used this toy, I intended to slip it in place and then get myself off with a vibrator. However, once popped in, it started to feel uncomfortable over time--the weight and the width that my asshole was dealing with was just awkward. I felt like I just wanted it to come out. So, I instead enjoyed the feeling of sliding it in and out and moved eventually onto the A-Bomb.
Follow-up commentary
8 months after original review
This toy is invaluable as a way of warming up to larger sizes of anal plugs. I still do not find it comfortable to leave in and walk around with, but I use it each and every time I want to move onto larger toys. It's a classic shape, made of high quality silicone, and it's well worth adding to your collection; especially if you're interested in larger anal toys.

Thank you for viewing Ringo – anal toy review page!

Nice review, Red. I think the A-bomb they sell here is made by Tantus though and not Doc Johnson and it is also about the same diameter as the Ringo, but the Ringo seems to take a more gradual approach to reaching the apex. Thanks for the information.
Hey Jimbo, actually I messed up and didn't put in links, the a bomb and the doc johnson classic are two different toys. The Doc Johnson classic is the same shape as Ringo, but it's made of sketchy materials, and it is much squishier (easier to take).
Good call, Red. I didn't realize you were talking about two different toys. You must be fond of large anal toys as it seems you are accumulating quite a collection. Will the Ringo replace the Doc Johnson Classic for you due to better materials even though it is 1/4" smaller in diameter, or do you like the actual stretch of that last 1/4"? Also, are you looking to go bigger, or do you feel like you have reached your desired limit?
I am indeed fond of large anal toys and am working towards being able to take a lover's (large) hand. I think I probably need to make it to 3".
I tossed out the Doc Johnson Classic a while ago; core had separated from the skin and I felt weird about it's cleanliness. Plus I really like oil based lubes for anal play so the rubber didn't do it for me. It's cheap, but this Tantus toy is a much better deal for essentially the same thing.
The Doc Johnson Toy is apparently bigger, but the squishiness of it makes it the same, essentially, to me. Silicone is pretty rigid!
Great review. Not something I would EVER use, but still a good review.
I am in need of a plug- I thoroughly enjoy anal penetration and want to experience the "pop" I've heard so many wonderful things about that is achieved with a plug. Does this one give that sensation much, or is the taper too gradual?
@Swallows - this plug will give you the pop, for sure. I find it only happens at the limit of my anal abilities, so just be honest with yourself as to what that is and pick up a plug sized accordingly. One step down in size from this one is the Bronco. No the taper is not too gradual, it is a great way to work yourself up to the eventual apex. The A bomb is a lot of fun, but as I, and also ScottA, have noted, this one is really really really good at prepping up to the A Bomb, which is much more of a challenge to get in.
You and ScottA seem to be the tag team of plugs.
Looking forward to the Tantus John, Paul and George models...
thanks for the review

Great review, thanks
Great review, it told me just what I needed to know.
Can't wait to buy this soon, thanks to your glowing review. This helped supply the confirmation that Ringo will provide the stretch I need to train up.
