Not So Silky

4/5 Although a few things did bother me about this rope--the biggest thing being the fact that it's not real silk--I do think it makes a nice introductory rope for me to bondage. The other things are just minor annoyances on my part. I doubt the packaging or silver tape would bother everyone. I'm just picky like that.

Experience
When I first received the silk rope, I was very curious to see if it was real silk. I researched a little online and found out there's a burn test. The details of that test are in the full review on my blog. Be sure to check it out if you're curious as to what this is really made of.

Unlike others, I've had little issues with fraying, so far. I decided to remove the silver tape because I thought it looked cheap, and sealed each end with a knot. This rope is fairly strong, but only suitable for restraint. I did contact Pipedream and was told that product development had not tested this for suspension play and that it is not recommended.

Please read the full review on my blog for more details and pictures.
Follow-up commentary
I haven't had any issues with it. Like I said in the review, the dye does bleed a little when washing it. It looks to me like it's still about the same color, although it may have faded slightly.

Not my favorite of your reviews but it may be that I'm more into rope due to my Dom husband's love of it.
We tend to shy away from rope sold at sex stores (online or otherwise) as the quality and durability tend to be on the cheap side (such as the silver tape, the color bleeding, etc)

It would be good to know if this rope gave you any rope burn, did is leave marks on the skin, was it irritating to the skin, etc.

otherwise thanks for the review. Good to know they don't recommend suspension with this rope which was a big question of ours as we tend to experiment with shibari and suspension.

@MimiPhryxus I'll be sure to add that into the review. Thank you for telling me what I missed! I really appreciate it!

It usually never leaves more than a slight imprint, but I never get it to where it's really tight. I've never used it for suspension either, since I wouldn't really trust it for that. I've had no issues with rope burn, but using hair conditioner on it makes it softer and less likely to chafe. It was decently soft of its own, but conditioner gives it a more silky feeling.

  • "fetish fantasy series japanese silk rope" -- not silk

link manufacturers page states that this rope is actually made out of cotton.

Talk about a misleading/lying branding system. Is Japanese Silk a trademark of theirs that they make out of chinese cotton?

  • 'Silk' bondage rope listed under 'suspension kits'
    • Hey, Eden? I would like to respectfully suggest you remove this from the 'suspension kits' category. This type of rope is *not* safe for suspension. It's not real silk (Pipedream has confirmed it is actually a cotton/polyester blend), so can fray easily, stretch, and is just a poor idea if you don't want to risk dropping your submissive on their head.

I agree. I made sure to put in my review that the rope is not intended for suspension or partail suspension

    • what are they made of
    • This is a question that could easily be answered by reading the product page! If you just scan it really quickly you can see that hey, these silk ropes are made of rope! It also gives you a link explaining the care of the materials, which is this link! A lot of these questions are better left off of the forums! :)

Rope is typically made of hemp, linen, cotton or (as in this case) silk. To say that rope is made of rope is a bit redundant. :D

But yeah, materials are always listed on the product's page, billybobtoy. It'll always be to the left of the product's picture, and it'll link to some basic care instructions. Though if you need more in-depth information, don't hesitate to ask.
