Pretty, but not durable
These silky ropes look beautiful when wrapped around the ankles, but did not hold up to the rough play test we put them to.Published: February 15, 2011
Pros:
Soft and supple. Brilliant color. Great novelty gift.
Cons:
Not durable enough for extended rough play.
So, I received my FREE review product from EF yesterday afternoon, and I was excited to try them out with my honey and see what kind of positions we could get ourselves into. The Fetish Fantasy Series Japanese Silk Rope arrived in the standard Fetish brand box with a nice kinky image on it of a hot chick tied up in numerous positions using the rope. I eagerly opened the box and was immediately disappointed when I noticed that the "silver metal end pieces" were actually pieces of flimsy silver foil that were not even intact with the rope itself. One of them actually came right off when I removed the rope from the plastic packaging. The rope is 35 feet in length, which is more than generous. We were able to try many different positions and always had enough rope. Along with the rope, a thin, black eye covering with an elastic band to keep it in place is included. This is one of those "sleep masks."
Without letting our initial impression discourage us too much, we set right off into a night of fun. We used our bright red ropes to take turns tying each other into multiple exciting positions. The ropes are not silky at all, in my opinion. They actually look and feel exactly like a pair of my toddler's soft, braided shoe laces, only bigger. The bright red color is actually very beautiful, but the quality is definitely only worth the $11.99 price tag on these and NOT a penny more.
Although we did have lots of fun, we noticed that, after trying just three different positions, the braids on the ropes were beginning to loosen and the ends were already fraying. I like to be tied up so that I can pretend to try to get away as much as I can; but, unfortunately, these ties just cannot handle that kind of play. By the time we were done, there was quite a bit of fraying throughout the product.
I can say that the beautiful red color looked really sexy on me and my partner when we were tightly bound by them. The material they are made of is very soft to the touch, which allowed for a rougher hold without feeling like I was going to be marked up in the end. They did hold well if you tied them tightly, and the appearance of seeing my partner tied up in these was very erotic, to say the least.
We didn't actually need to clean the ropes, but we did use them in the shower for testing purposes. The ropes stayed tied tightly while in use with water. They are very absorbing and will need lots of time to dry if they get wet. I did not want to throw this in the dryer because I wasn't sure how that would affect the rope, so I just hung it over my shower rod and it dried overnight.
We will try these again, but I don't think that they will last as long as I was hoping for.

Experience
Overall, I am pleased with the ropes for general binding purposes, but I don't recommend them for couples who are into serious bondage or looking for a product that will withstand lots of tying and untying.
Follow-up commentary
10 days after original review
After using the Fetish Fantasy Series Japanese Silk Rope a few more times, I have begun to like it a lot more. Rather than looking at the "quality" of the product, I have begun to look at it from more of a "novelty" point of view. With an open mind, I tried the ropes again and again and had a lot of fun being tied up by my lover. Once I decided that I wasn't going to "judge" these ropes on quality, I was able to relax and enjoy the endless positions that the length of these ropes allowed for. I do, now, recommend the ropes to anyone who is looking for a fun and colorful way to experience light and non threatening BDSM play. The ropes are still fraying a little more after being used a couple more times, but the 11.99 price won't break the bank if they needed to be replaced.

"fetish fantasy series japanese silk rope" -- not silk
-
LazyNinjalink manufacturers page states that this rope is actually made out of cotton.
Talk about a misleading/lying branding system. Is Japanese Silk a trademark of theirs that they make out of chinese cotton?

'Silk' bondage rope listed under 'suspension kits'
-
Hey, Eden? I would like to respectfully suggest you remove this from the 'suspension kits' category. This type of rope is *not* safe for suspension. It's not real silk (Pipedream has confirmed it is actually a cotton/polyester blend), so can fray easily, stretch, and is just a poor idea if you don't want to risk dropping your submissive on their head.

I made sure to put in my review that the rope is not intended for suspension or partail suspension

what are they made of
-
This is a question that could easily be answered by reading the product page! If you just scan it really quickly you can see that hey, these silk ropes are made of rope! It also gives you a link explaining the care of the materials, which is this link! A lot of these questions are better left off of the forums! :)

But yeah, materials are always listed on the product's page, billybobtoy. It'll always be to the left of the product's picture, and it'll link to some basic care instructions. Though if you need more in-depth information, don't hesitate to ask.

I get the purple version as a free review tomorrow. I'm looking forward to having a good time getting the necessary info to review it.
Thanks for the review
great review!!
we had the same problem with fraying..we painted the ends with clear nail polish. def decreases the durability, but still not the best for extended play
