Silk Rope -- Comes with Free Frays!

I bought this rope to experiment with bondage and mix things up, and I was disappointed at first because of the rope's cosmetic defects. It looked almost used right out of the package. Even though the rope I received has flaws, it's still a comfortable rope and it should hold up to whatever we can throw at it in the bedroom.

Use

This rope would be best for someone who wanted to experiment with ropes, tying, bondage, etc. or someone who needs a portable but strong rope. It can be wrapped down to a small size for a 35 foot rope, about 8 inches in length by 3 inches in diameter. Thirty-five feet of rope should give you enough length for a breast harness or simpler bondage ties and wraps. For more advanced ties more rope would be needed, but 35 feet is a good length for a general purpose rope. Silk rope is relatively weak, so I would not recommend using this rope for suspension. It's about 3/8ths of an inch thick, but the rope has flaws that would affect its strength.

Design / Craftsmanship / Material / Size / Fit

This is a braided rope, so it is a bit more comfortable than twisted ropes. The silk has a similar feel to cotton, so it is soft and not as smooth as some silk clothing. I wouldn't use "silky" as a term to describe how it feels. Don't expect a slick, shiny rope.

The biggest issue that I had with this rope was the quality of craftsmanship. The rope I received had a big fray right in the middle of the rope. It won't affect the performance much, but in my experience frays get worse and worse as time goes on, so the durability was affected right out of the box. It also had fibers of other colors and other visual contaminants that made the rope look older and more used than it was. It also smelled like a rope factory before I washed it.

The rope ends are silver colored plastic that is wrapped multiple times around the end, similar to a shoe lace. I expect these to slowly come loose as the adhesive gets dirty.
    • Discreet look/design

Performance

Despite the flaws in the rope, I don't expect to have any issues with its performance. It won't have to deal with anything too extreme. I wouldn't use this rope for rock climbing or anything that would risk my life, but as a bondage rope it will work fine. With care, this rope should last for quite a while.
    • Comfortable during use

Care and Maintenance

This rope should be hand washed or machine washed in a lingerie bag with like colors whenever it gets dirty. After washing, silk rope should be air dried and stored in a cool dry place, preferably in a bag of its own.
    • Easy to clean
Follow-up commentary
This rope has held up well through being washed and used. It has softened slightly over time, and it has kept its color well.

I'm not sure what's with the frays. I own two of these; one has frays, and one doesn't. I think maybe, if it comes with frays, it's actually a defective piece of rope? I'm not sure.

  • "fetish fantasy series japanese silk rope" -- not silk

link manufacturers page states that this rope is actually made out of cotton.

Talk about a misleading/lying branding system. Is Japanese Silk a trademark of theirs that they make out of chinese cotton?

  • 'Silk' bondage rope listed under 'suspension kits'
    • Hey, Eden? I would like to respectfully suggest you remove this from the 'suspension kits' category. This type of rope is *not* safe for suspension. It's not real silk (Pipedream has confirmed it is actually a cotton/polyester blend), so can fray easily, stretch, and is just a poor idea if you don't want to risk dropping your submissive on their head.

I agree. I made sure to put in my review that the rope is not intended for suspension or partail suspension

    • what are they made of
    • This is a question that could easily be answered by reading the product page! If you just scan it really quickly you can see that hey, these silk ropes are made of rope! It also gives you a link explaining the care of the materials, which is this link! A lot of these questions are better left off of the forums! :)

Rope is typically made of hemp, linen, cotton or (as in this case) silk. To say that rope is made of rope is a bit redundant. :D

But yeah, materials are always listed on the product's page, billybobtoy. It'll always be to the left of the product's picture, and it'll link to some basic care instructions. Though if you need more in-depth information, don't hesitate to ask.
