The Rainbow Mega Nubby was the first glass toy I ever purchased. I had heard a lot about the things that could be done with glass and decided that it was time to try it out for myself. This toy was a joint choice between my partner at the time and me and we picked it out for several reasons. It has a very nice appearance the colored nubs make it look almost like art. The size was the second reason it was the smallest of the glass toys that we were looking at this was important due to the lack of experience she had with toys in general and the lack of flexibility of the material.

The toy itself is made of pyrex glass. This means that it is very resistant to heat and breakage, it is textured containing a multitude of small bumps on all sides of the toy and along its entire length. These bumps are colored in rings causing the toy to have its rainbow appearance. When you first touch the toy you will likely find it cool but even after just holding it for a few moments it will quickly warm. Another thing you may notice is a lack of smell compared to other toy materials. Glass will not hold smells as some materials do and really has no intrinsic smell of its own. There is also a nice plush carrying case included with this toy to help keep it safe during storage and travel.

One of the nice things about glass is how easy it is to clean and sterilize. Because this is pyrex glass you can clean it almost any way you would like, antibacterial soap and warm water, bleach, the dishwasher, you could even run it through an autoclave if you happen to have such an apparatus handy. Though if you choose to try any form of harsh chemical cleaning you would want to be sure to rinse the toy well before you played with it again, the last thing you want is to get something like bleach inside yourself or your partner. Also glass toys are okay to be used with any type of lubricant, if you are using any silicone toys in your play or you plan on doing anything with latex condoms stay away from silicone based lubricants. As always if you are planning on sharing your toys it is best to use condoms.

Glass toys are great for many different types of play, my favorite however are things related to temperature. Glass toys retain temperature very well, just try placing your glass toy in a glass of ice water for a few moments and you will find out what I mean. You can also change your temperatures from warm to cold. That said I wouldn’t recommend taking your toy from extreme heat to extreme cold, while pyrex glass is good about temperature changes, extremes could still cause your toy to fracture and potentially break. However, there have been many times where I have taken the toy from a glass of ice water to a glass of warm water and have had no problems with fractures, cracks, or any other signs of structural integrity loss. The ability to change the temperature of your toy can be used to great effect against your partner’s skin, or for internal stimulus, the options are only limited by your imagination.

Now for the drawbacks of glass toys and perhaps this toy in particular. First, because of the ridged nature of glass as a material you will want to be careful the first time you insert this toy. If you are using it on a partner be very aware of what you are doing, unlike other materials glass has little to no give and can easily cause discomfort if inserted at the wrong angle or with too much force. So the first time you play with this toy, go slow and get a feel for yourself or your partner. Second, while this toy can be used for vaginal penetration I would not suggest it for anal use. Simply put this toy doesn’t have a flared base and there is a risk of “losing” the toy inside your partner if you try anal penetration. Third, is more of a word of warning, be careful when using this toy for temperature play. Something that feels warm or a little hot to your hand will be more intense against your genitals. I could imagine nothing worse than burning yourself with a toy that was just simply too hot to be played with. Finally, I have had a couple of partners that didn’t like the texture of this toy, if you already know that you don’t like nubbed toys I would suggest you find another glass toy.

The experience that sticks out most in my mind with this toy is the first time I used it. I had just gotten it home and removed it from the packaging, my partner was anxious to try the toy and was in the bedroom stripping down and getting things ready while I heated some water and put some ice in a glass. Initially we simply put some lubricant on the toy and tried inserting it to see how she would respond to the shape and contours of the nubs. In the end we found that rotating the toy while it was inside her really managed to hit the right spots. It was kind of tough keeping the toy from being uncomfortable as she squirmed around while it was being twisted inside her. Then we decided to start experimenting with temperature, trying cold first letting the toy sit in the glass of ice water while I teased her and kept her aroused. After it was chilled the toy made a very clean substitute for an ice cube as it is easily dried on a towel before you run it along your partner’s skin, and the sounds you will get when it is inserted are to die for.

This is still one of my favorite glass toys for the price. I have owned it for several years and still go back to using it with partners because of the unique sensations it creates and the versatility that glass can have. I have purchased a couple more glass toys and while they are good this one is still unique.
