Basic massage oil

If you want a basic, long-lasting massage oil at a cheap price, you could do worse than Tantric Massage Oil. It's good for most people with sensitive skin, and it smells okay. But if you're looking for something truly luxurious and sensual, look elsewhere.

Use

Tantric massage oil is for using as an aid to massage. It is not a sexual lubricant, and is not edible.

I got the tantric breeze variety of this oil, and the ingredients are as follows: Carnation oil, almond oil, I.P.M., natural fragrance, vitamins A&E. I.P.M. is short for isopropyl myristate, and is commonly used as a dilution agent and emollient. The smell of this product did make my nose itch very slightly, but did not irritate my sensitive skin.

Tantric massage oil is, well, oily. It's a bit runny when dispensed, and has a silky, rather than velvety, consistency. It's greasier than more expensive massage oils I've tried, but not repulsively so.

Taste / Aroma

The tantric breeze scent of this massage oil smells of carnations, nutmeg, and something synthetic that I can't place. It's a nice enough scent, but nothing special. The scent is a good medium strength, neither too strong nor too weak. It does make my nose itch a little, which is very common for me with scents. Don't taste this stuff; I did, for this review and to satisfy my curiosity, and I wish I hadn't.

Performance

This oil does not absorb readily into the skin. A small amount lubricates a massage acceptably for a long time. We needed to wash it off with soap and water; just water doesn't cut it. Since it's very oily, it could cause breakouts if left on the skin too long. It didn't stain my dark blue cotton sheets.

Tantric massage oil does its job, but there's nothing spectacular about it. It feels fine and smells fine, but "fine" just isn't enough for me. It does last for quite a while, so if you like really long massages and are on a tight budget, this could be the oil for you.

Packaging

Tantric massage oil came to me in a bottle with a plastic sleeve around the cap. It was leaking a bit when I got it; nothing terrible, but not a sign of a really high-quality product either. The bottle is pretty, and the oil is easy to dispense. The cap is difficult to manipulate with hands that are slippery from the oil. The bottle is hard plastic, and the name of the product is printed in gold lettering on the front. Like most massage oils, it would be fine to leave out, though I advise putting a cloth or some paper towel under it.

Personal comments

This oil gets a resounding "okay" from both my boyfriend and me. Its price is its biggest selling point. If you're not picky about massage oils, this will likely be fine for you. I'll probably use up this bottle, but I won't be buying more in the future.

I'm sad you didn't enjoy this as much as me. Maybe our batches were different. I love the woodsy smell, but that's a personal thing of course. Can't beat the price though! Maybe you can pass it along to a friend

    • The way socceras describes it, I think I would enjoy it! I have had lubes that leak before and it doesn't stop me from using them. The ingredients thing might make me hesitate, but I am only allergic to Codene as far as I know so it wouldn't stop me. =)
