Effective and Pleasant Smelling
There is a peace of mind that comes with knowing the toys I'm using are free of bacteria. Toys go into sensitive areas after all! The fact that the spray is both inexpensive and smells nice, is great too!Published: December 1, 2010
Pros:
--inexpensive
--pleasant smell
--effective
--pleasant smell
--effective
Cons:
It only comes in one scent, so if you're not a fan of grape, this spray is not for you.
I was pleasantly surprised by this product. I purchased it because I wanted to make sure my toys were always clean and free of bacteria. If something is going to go inside of my body, I don't want it to have any germs on it! I was initially concerned that it would have a chemical sort of smell. That couldn't be farther from the truth! The spray has a light, fruity smell that I find very pleasant. The bottle doesn't actually label the scent, but it smells like grape to me. It helped tone down the rubbery smell of my jelly toys, and it leaves my hard plastic toys smelling clean and fresh with no sort of residue.
I use this spray consistently on my toys now, and I have not noticed any sort of negative side effects. It doesn't harm the toys in any way, and I haven't noticed any residue or any sort of skin irritation due to using the spray. The spray is water based, so it is very easy to wipe off of a toy. I personally keep the spray in my medicine cabinet and rinse it off with water. However, using water is not necessary. It states on the bottle that you can spray it on and wipe it off without rinsing. Which means you can actually clean your toys without even leaving your bed if you'd like, which is a nice perk.
I've had this bottle of Before and After spray for a while now. Even though I have the smaller 4oz version, it goes a long way. I know that there are other toy cleaners on this website that are a little cheaper, but I think it is worth spending an extra couple of dollars to make sure you are getting a quality product.

Follow-up commentary
2 months after original review
When I initially wrote the review for this item, I had only used the spray on a toy when doing clean up in the bathroom, and I would then rinse the toy clean and dry it. However, it says on the bottle that rinsing is not actually necessary...that you just need to spray a toy and then wipe it off. So I decided to experiment to see if that was true.
Here's what I've concluded. If you are using the spray on anything that has a slightly tacky texture, then I really feel like rinsing it is necessary. I'm mostly thinking about toys made out of jelly. Since that material is such a lint magnet, spraying it and trying to wipe it with a tissue just makes a mess.
However, for my hard plastic toys, it is really easy to spray them with toy cleaner and then wipe them off. This is great for when I don't feel like getting out of bed and dashing to the bathroom immediately after playing. But personally, I view this in the same way that I do hand sanitizer. It's great for in the moment, but it doesn't quite compare to cleaning something with water. I still feel compelled to give my toys a good rinse before they go back into storage.

What does before & after do.. before you use it?
-
Is it both a lubricant and a sanitizer? how does that work?
-
It is not a lubricant but merely cleans the toys. When the toy is sitting around, it gathers fungal spores, dust, and bacteria.
-
Before you use it it sits there and looks pretty :P
In theory you're supposed to use it before you use your toys and then after you use your toys to ensure optimal cleanness. At least according to the bottle.

Before & After Toy Cleaner...
-
This one got lots of great reviews, but I've got a couple of questions for all you reviewers who use this. The description says you have to "spray, wipe, then rinse" but most of the reviews say no rinsing required. Can you guys confirm there's no residue if you don't rinse? One review mentioned it didn't clean the crevices of textured toys well. Anyone else have that experience? Would you say it replaces the soap & water routine completely?
-
Nah, it doesn't replace soap and water, in my opinion. It may be because I've used soap and water for so long, but I just don't see the benefit to spraying something and then wiping it off. I find the cleaner hard to wipe off on toys w/ texture, and maybe I'm nuts, but then I don't feel like a toy is really clean. It would do in a pinch, but I don't mind soap and water so that's what I go for 90% of the time.

I like the the idea of toy cleaner but I always wondered what exactly you wipe down with? What's a good cloth for that?

Thank you for viewing Before and after toy cleaner – toy cleanser review page!

Good review! I like the idea of cleaning everything up without actually leaving my room.
I keep this cleaner next to my bed and spray my toys after I use them as I just don't want to get up and make a trip to the sink for cleanup. When I was living in a college dorm, Before and After made toy use so uncomplicated and discreet.
Thanks for the review!
