I'm having an affair...with a candle.

The way my nose feels after smelling JimmyJane's Absinthe + Sugarwater candles makes me wonder if I'm not actually cheating on my husband. If pleasure were a scent, this would be it. Everything about this product is simply marvelous.

extremely useful review
When I first got this in the mail, it came with another box of honeymoon pretties that I had ordered for myself and my husband, but this was the first thing I looked for. I had read all the reviews and heard all about how amazing these smelled, but in my head I expected this to be on-par with a Yankee Candle Co. candle, except that I could rub on my skin. Wow, was I ever happy to be wrong.

These candles are meant to be enjoyed, which is obvious from the moment you see the package. A simple box, with monochrome and green colors, opens into a red inside with "MELT ME" written in bold letters. Tucked inside the little cubby is the uniquely designed candle container, with it's amazing scent hidden away inside. I tore mine out of the box, more than just a little disappointed that, in transit, part of mine had melted into the box (it sat on a freight in Texas for 2 days due to a shipping mess-up). Even with that bit gone, it was still delicious to smell.

They say that smells bring on the best memories, and this was enforced and re-enforced for me in this candle. Old Spice will always remind me of my grandfather, grapefruit will always remind me of Spring, and JimmyJane will now always remind me of my honeymoon. We brought one of these with us, and lit it on the nightstand in the hotel room, so for the majority of my weekend, during most of our lovemaking, we had this burning in the background. What I thought was perfect in the candle, was made even better when touched to flame. And better still when rubbed into my or my husband's skin.

I can tell you that it smells delicious, but explaining the scent is going to take a little more effort. Initially, it smelled to me almost like those citronella anti-mosquito candles, but with a lot more earthy tones to it. After a moment, the zing of citrus blended into the woodsy smell of sandalwood. There's also a mild undertone of something more subtle and gentle, that I can't place. Green tea, maybe? Lemongrass? The flavors may be difficult to identify, but together they make an exquisite blend, meant to give your nasal passages orgasm after orgasm.

But wait! It doesn't just smell absolutely amazing, it also does amazing things for your body, too. Seriously. If this thing also did my dishes, I'd have found my soul mate. On one corner of the candle, a little spout makes for easier pouring (though I still recommend pouring it directly onto your partner's skin, as it's thinner than wax - don't worry, it doesn't burn like typical wax would), and all it takes is just a few drops of this in your skin to know you're dealing with some high-quality products.

As this is made out of oil, you're going to have a bit more residue left behind on your skin than if you were applying lotion, but unlike other massage oils this didn't leave my hands or body oily or greasy. It absorbs very nicely into the skin, and I find myself dipping my fingers into the candle (even when it's not lit, just rubbing them over the surface) and rubbing the oil into my wrists and near my neck, just because the scent is so incredible and feels so good on my skin. If I could find this caliber of body lotion, in this scent, I would never buy anything else. Luckily, I can get nearly as good using it as a massage oil, since it soaks so completely into my skin.

Ingredients: soybean oil, shea butter, palmarosa oil, jojoba oil, aloe vera, vitamin E, ambrettolide IFF, cashmeran, cedarwood oil atlas (pola), citral syn., citronellol pure (extra), damascenone, dimethyl benzyl carbinyl butyrate (DMBCA), dimethyl anthranilate, ethyl linalool, floropal, galaxolide 50 IPM, gamma octalactone, geraniol (couer), geranyl acetate syn 85%, hedione, helional, hexyl cinnamic aldehyde (HCA), hydroxcitronellal, iso E super, isopropyl myristate, jasmal, L-carvone, leaf alcohol, linalool, linalyl acetate, nerol syn. 95%, nerol acetate syn. 95%, orange oil florida, stemone, stryallyl acetate, terpineol prime, terpinyl acetate, tonalid veloutone, verdox, vertnex (PTBCHA).
Follow-up commentary
I am still cheating on my husband with this candle. Sadly, though, I've been busted in my affair; but he understands, so it's alright. This baby sits on my nightstand right by my bed, and even when it hasn't been lit in weeks (I am trying to not finish it off, since it's my favorite smell on the planet!), I still get a whiff of it every now and again in my room. This is still, hands down, my favorite non-toy purchase I've ever made from EF, and I still highly recommend it to absolutely anyone with a nose.

Your honeymoon story made me smile. Scent associations are so wonderful.

Totally wishlisting this (not 'cause I wanna smell your honeymoon, though. I'll make my own associations, thankyouverymuch )

Sadly, I have yet to try any of them. :(
    • I'm not a fan of the Truffle and Gardenia. To me the Lychee doesn't really smell like Lychees at all.
I haven't tried Absinthe and Sugar Water yet. Still deciding if I want to seen as how I wasn't all that impressed with the other two.

I prefer the other ones which are cheaper. The Black currant doesn't have a strong currant smell, but it comes through more once on my skin and it's one of my favourites along with Dark Vanilla, Pink Lotus and Cucumber Water.

  • Another chance at the Absinthe & Sugar Water?
    • Woohoo! I don't normally go in for Limited Edition stuff, especially with something like a candle that can only be used for so long. But damn. This sounds so freaking awesome. Anyone else plan on shelling out the $30 because they're a sucker for Jimmyjane?
    • I'm definitely considering it!
    • I may get this just because I'm a sucker for things that say "limited edition"
