Safe & Sound
For most of us, the best sex toys make us wiggle and jiggle with joy and pleasure. Thus, sex toy covers -- boring! -- probably aren't high on our list of sexual "must have" items. On the other hand, if you're looking for safety and peace of mind when it comes to using or sharing all those hot-ticket toys in your box, then these are a good, solid choice.Published: December 29, 2009
Pros:
Thick, stretchy, dependable. Makes play and clean up easy.
Cons:
It would be nice if they came in a clear option. Slightly expensive (compared to condoms).
A while back, I wrote a review of the Little Flirt anal toy and mentioned that it was too small to use a condom on, so it was best to wash it really well (or boil it) between uses. Perhaps in response to reading that, Eden Fantasys sent me these toy covers in the small size (by Cal Exotics) to try out. Despite considering myself rather schooled not only in sex toys, but in safe sex options, I'm a little embarrassed to admit that not only had I never used something like this, but that I'd never heard of something like this.
Maybe that's because I always think of safe-sex stuff as a necessary evil, but not necessarily as a "whoo-hoo fun!" kind of thing. If I go online to search for sex toys, I looks for toys -- vibes, plugs, whips, cuffs, that kind of thing. But I am a huge advocate of safe sex, of course (and you are too, right?) so I always have the staples like condoms, lube and other goodies in my toybox.
These new covers are likely to become another staple: one of things that you order and spend money on because it's good for you, and because they do the job they're supposed to do. They're not flashy or fun -- but they're safe and sound, and that's really what one wants out of a safe sex toy, isn't it?
Because they can be used on any toys -- even the hard-to-sanitize ones -- it means you can play with (and share) your toys to your heart's content. Those covers are perfect for those who don't work and play well with others (meaning you don't share your toys) as well as for those who are in open relationships or have a number of play partners. They also turn clean-up into a no-muss, no-fuss two-second event.

Follow-up commentary
2 months after original review
Writing a follow-up review for something like sex toy covers just isn't the same as writing it for something fun like a flogger or a butt plug. Still, it's good to look back and realize, "Oh, yeah, I have been using those." I used them recently for a couple of toys that couldn't be sterilized, and I did it without thinking, in much the same way I would dig in the medicine drawer for a bandaid.
So, yep, still not all that sexy, but very safe and secure. They're the bandaid of my sex-kit!

laxplaya18should I get these for my gf to use while she masturbates or would she use them in between sessions? -
Toy covers and condoms are used to help make cleanup easier, to prevent the possible transmission of STD/STIs, to prevent cross contaminiation if you go anal -> vaginal (change it after anal and before vaginal), or to protect your body from toys made from non bodysafe materials. If you use bodysafe, nonporous materials (silicone, glass, metal, etc.) and wash between uses/ sanitize between people and anal/vaginal use you don't need them and they would merely be for convienience.

Thank you for viewing Toy covers review page!

Nice review, thanks!
Thanks so much, Newme!
Weird. Ok so basically they are snugger fit condoms? You could just buy the snug fit condoms by Lifestyles and be done with it lol.
good review though!
Somewhat useful was a mistake by the way, sorry about that.
Hey Lauren,
Thanks for reading. Yeah, they're similar. But they are quite a bit thicker material-wise than condoms, which probably has both benefits and negatives. I haven't tried the snug-fit ones. Maybe I will, in order to compare the two.
They're kind of cute
Good review!
Thanks, Sammi! They are cute. Definitely a good choice for someone who likes their safe sex items to look nice.
