Best for the Pears

The Haute in the City Dress was a disappointment for me because of one major flaw - the back band. Why couldn't it be a tie like the halter?! But no...it had to be made as an uncomfortably sized and designed piece of the dress. Thankfully this will work best for pear shapes and isn't a total loss.

extremely useful review
I got this dress over two years ago and haven't been wanting to pull it out to review because I hate the thing so much. There's really only one major thing wrong, but it ruins it for me. The band that goes across the back is rather uncomfortable and I really wish it were a tie like the halter portion so that it would fit more sizes and frames appropriately. As is, it's tight and unflattering. While it fits, I just don't like how it looks and find myself pulling at it constantly. This dress is best for pear shapes...

*Contents/overview: Two pieces

*Mini dress
*Thong

The Haute in the City Halter Dress is from Dream Girl. The dress is a little back dress with a halter tie, bikini style bust and deep V bust line. It adjusts around the neck and in the back where it has hook and eye closures. It's available in sizes S, M, and L.

*Material: Mixed, stretchy

The dress is made of 90% polyester/10% spandex exclusive of trim which is the bus area and metal ring in the center of the bust. The majority of the dress is the black material which is smooth and feels sort of like a swimsuit, but it is much thinner. It's stretchy and accommodating while being able to return to its original shape and size. Thankfully, it is not see-through.

The bust portion is a little different. First off, there is a large metal piece between the breasts. The cups are made of a less smooth material than the black portions. It's a bit scratchy and not as stretchy. The back of it is bright ass yellow while the front it gold. On top of this is a layer of ornate black lace. this section of the dress barely stretches.

*Design/craftsmanship: Needs a few tweaks

Measurements are for the large:

The dress is a halter with deep V neck and triangle cups. It has a low and open back too. The material and design of the dress will show your flaws if you have any. It also won't boost a small bust much and won't support XL ones either. Also, this dress is not for the taller ladies as it is quite short. Although, it can be worn as a tunic top.

The dress's length is hard to determine since it will vary depending on how you tie it. The portion from under the bust to the bottom is about 21", however. The very bottom of the dress measures about 17" across. The portion that gives me trouble is from arm pit to arm pit. This area measures 11 1/2" across when on the largest setting.

The cups measure 5 1/2" across the bottom. They have a metal ring connecting them in the center. The ring is oval and can turned to stand tall or be wide. It really doesn't matter. The deep plunging neck line totally isn't for everyone because it can only provide so much support. The cups blend straight into the straps that are plenty long enough to tie behind the neck. Right below the bust is a band that then goes behind the back. It's only 1 1/4" wide. There are three choices for size due to the ye and hook closure.

The thong is an after though made out of the same material as the black portions of the dress. It is a string style. I lost track of it long ago.

*Care and packaging:

I totally don't remember if this came in a bag or not, but it came in pink tissue paper. The tag says to dry clean only but you could totally spot clean it. Don't put this through a dryer. I'm concerned that the bust area would shrink weirdly or not lie properly.
Experience
*Sizing/fit: Runs smaller than other larges, and runs small compared to chart

At the time I got this I weighed maybe 10 more pounds. It's hard to remember that far back! I decided to get the large. For a dress I might wear out, it's safe to go up a size if you're on the border. Otherwise your outdoor dress might be grounded to the indoors. Compared to companies, Coquette for example, this large runs small. It's also not accurate to their chart.

According to their sizing chart, the L should fit a size 10-14 dress, C-D chest, 36-38" band, 28-32" waist, 38-40" hip, and 140-150 pounds. At the time of this review I am about 146 pounds, size 8 in most jeans, 8/9 in dresses, 36 D or DD (on occasion) bra, 34.5" under bust, 41" bust, 39" hip, and 30.5" waist. Note my measurements have changed. I hadn't retaken them in about a year!

The dress size is really off. I can't imagine this fitting over a size 10 without being way too tight and pulling. The chest size is accurate. The band is the worst part! I measure 34.5" under my bust which is about where the band lies, maybe a little lower. Either way, this will cut into anyone over about 33" in that area.
The waist isn't so far off and neither is the hip or pound range. The length varies depending on how you wear the dress, but it was a decent length for wearing out on me. I would prefer a little longer, however it wasn't too short that it was showing things it shouldn't.

My Re-done chart/BEST fit: For large
Dress: 8-10
Cup: C-D
Band: 31-33" (underneath your breasts)
Waist: 30-33"
Hips: 38-40"
Weight: 140-150 lbs

*Possible accessories:

A gold heel would compliment the gold accents nicely if you want to break away from black like the ones below.

*Conclusion: ★★★

If you are shaped like a pear with a really small top in comparison to your behind and hips this might be a flattering dress since the top portion will draw attention away from your larger bottom area. However, if you're fairly proportionate in both areas, this sadly may not work well for you. Go figure.
Follow-up commentary
I ended up wearing this once for my partner at home and then took it to the local consignment shop. It's too short and too small for my breast area to be able to be worn out.
