Haute in the city halter dress - mini dress discontinued by DreamGirl - review by Jul!a

There wasn't much packaging with this one, just the dress and thong wrapped in pretty pink tissue paper. There was a cardboard tag safety pinned to the dress that listed the size, and a tag on the inside of the dress does as well, along with the materials and cleaning instructions. Your dress is 90% Polyester and 10% Spandex, and according to the tag should be dry cleaned only. My other experience with dry clean only dresses from DreamGirl is that they've been fine going through the washer, but do so at your own risk.

You can buy this dress in a small, medium, or large. I bought the size small, and according to DreamGirl I should be between a size 2-6, with a cup size of A-B, bust of 32-34, 24-26" waist, 34-36" hips, and weigh between 90 and 120. Personally I'm about 5'2, size 4/6, I weigh about 120, around my bust measures about 32" and underneath measures about 28 1/2". I've got about a 29" waist with 34" hips, 38" around my butt, and I wear a B cup. This fit me wonderfully everywhere, will fit the chart, and should even be ok for a bit bigger than the chart. The only real problem I had with the sizing was that by B cups didn't look all that great. They didn't look bad, but they'd have looked better if they were a C cup, which would also be just fine in the small.

What you get in this set is the dress and a thong. The dress is a halter style that ties behind the neck, but also has a clasp in the back to help keep things from being too open thanks to the large keyhole that makes up most of the back. The cups are about 5 1/4" across at the base and the gold foil backing that provides the color and the floral lace in front of it go up about 10" because there's no real set top of the cup, they just transform into the straps. The straps are about an inch thick and about 14" from where the gold stops. Along the band under the bust is a gold colored ring, and the band also holds the hook and eye closure that keeps that part tight to your body. It's about 24" unstretched, and stretches to about 32" and at that point it'll be digging in. From the bottom of the keyhole to the bottom of the hem is about 10" and from the bottom of the cups to the bottom of the hem is about 20". The bottom of the dress measures about 16" across. The bottom 4" of the dress is a bit tighter than the rest of the dress to help keep it in place if you wanted to wear it out.

The thong is your basic thong; functional but nothing you'll miss or can't replace with something more comfortable. It got misplaced by my husband when doing laundry, but it fit on my 34" hips relatively well. It does such a good job of blending in that I can't figure out which of the black thongs that I've gotten with other sets might actually be this one instead.

The dress feels really nice to the touch, smooth and silky, but not like silk. Almost like a thick bathing suit. It reminds me of what a lot of "club tops" I've seen feel like. It does cling to curves nicely and doesn't really bring any attention to trouble spots. It would be possible to wear a bra with this if you get one that goes around your neck in a halter style. Since there's no underwire in the cups you could wear a bra to provide a little extra cleavage, since this dress doesn't. It does provide some support if your breasts are a bit larger and need it, but the extra weight may pull down the cups and the straps and dig the straps in painfully behind your neck. More painfully than they already are to begin with. I had to keep retying mine looser and looser if I wanted to wear it for more than half an hour or so. Barring major snags on the material, everything should hold together for a long time too.

This would be a good piece to wear out. If you think it might be a bit short, you could always add these gold leggings to go with it!

I wish I had boobs, then this would look super fantastic on me. Aside from the whole not doing a damn thing for tiny tata's bit, the only other complaint that I have about the design in general is that the tie behind the neck gets painful. No matter how many times I loosened it and retied it, it still felt tight and like it was really digging in to the back of my neck. Otherwise, I like the whole thing. It was long enough that I would have felt ok wearing it out, although I'd probably wear a pair of leggings underneath it just to be safe.
