A lovely night with Nyx

Out of the Nyx, Io, and Charms Curve from the Key line, the Nyx is the only one that seems to be worth the money for me. It feels super well built, looks great, and has focused, rumbly vibrations. It's not the best for g-spot stimulation, and it's still fairly expensive, but this has a new home as being my favorite travel-sized toy.

Use

The Nyx is one of the medium sized toys in the Jopen Key line. This toy is a bit smaller than most 'traditional' style toys, but is larger than 'extra long' bullet toys.

One way to use this toy is for clitoral stimulation. The pointed tip is good for pinpoint stimulation, while the side gives broader vibrations. You also can use this to vibrate the labia, nipples, and other external erogenous zones.

You also can insert this toy vaginally. It has a fair amount of length to it, and it's smooth enough to make for easy thrusting, but this toy is not the best for g-spot stimulation. If you have a very shallow, easy to reach g-spot you might have some luck, but most people will prefer to use this toy externally.

This toy is not anal safe, no way no how. It has no flared base or real handle, so there is nothing to keep it from slipping into you and causing a not-so-sexy trip to the ER. If you want an anal toy I'd suggest looking elsewhere.

If you want to introduce toys into a relationship, this would actually be a pretty good place to start. The small size and different settings make it fun and not intimidating, and it's just on the border of being affordable enough to take a risk on. You also can use it externally during intercourse due to the length.

If you want a first toy in general this would also be an okay option. While something better for g-spot stimulation (even a 'traditional' style toy) would be more highly recommended, this is a cute, quality toy.

This toy 100% passes Ryu's dorm seal of approval. It's quiet enough that it won't be heard through the door, and it's small enough to stash under a pillow or in a drawer. It's also waterproof, making it a good shower companion.

Material / Texture

This toy is made entirely of silicone, plastic, and metal alloy. I assume that the metal is stainless steel alloy, but no matter what these are all very safe, high quality materials.

Silicone is rated a 10 out of 10 on the Eden Safety Scale. It's nonporous and body safe, meaning that it won't leak gross chemicals into you and that bacteria can't live under the surface of the toy. It's flexible and soft, and usually has a bit of drag to it.

Metal, especially steel, is also nonporous and body safe. Both metal and silicone can be disinfected by boiling them for several minutes.

Plastic is rated an 8 out of 10 on the Eden Safety Scale. It's very firm, and almost never has any drag to it at all. Plastic can't be boiled, so in order to disinfect the plastic portion of this toy you should wipe it down with a 10% bleach solution.

Even though silicone is soft, because it is just covering the plastic interior no part of this toy has much give to it at all. The silicone does cause it to have a bit of drag, but I didn't have to use lube with this toy at all.

I got this toy in blue because I loved the 'jewel'y plastic in the center, and the blue looked especially pretty in that style. the plastic is slightly transparent, though you can't directly see the motor or anything. The silicone is a lighter shade of blue than the rest of the toy.

While the toy is totally smooth, there are a few 'veiny' ridges. These can't be felt during use, and seem to be there just to make it look prettier. There is a small seam where the plastic meets the silicone, but I couldn't feel that, either.

In total, this toy is made of great, safe materials. It's very smooth and has little texture, and the color combined with the different materials just looks cool. All users will appreciate the nice materials this toy is made of.

Design / Shape / Size

The Nyx isn't the most unique looking toy, especially with what the Jopen Vanities give it to live up to, but it's pretty unique. Not only does the transparent plastic and opaque silicone make it stand out, but the design itself is something I haven't run across too many times before.

The Nyx has a listed length of 5 inches, and a listed insertable length of 5 inches, but in reality you can only insert about 3.5 inches of this toy while having a good hold on it to thrust with. This toy is also 3.75 inches around. This makes it much smaller than the average penis.

Even though the measurements seem moderately thick, the first 1.5 inches of the toy are thinner than that. This toy comes to a fairly sharp point at the end, that it good for very pinpoint stimulation. If you want broader stimulation, the side of the tip is good for fairly disperse vibrations.

Unlike some other toys from this line, you can't remove the bullet with the motor from the outside of this toy. This is probably what helps it be stronger and a bit quieter than the Key Charms and Io toy I have. It also makes it feel a bit more solid and high quality.

This toy doesn't have a g-spot curve, but if it did it would be unstoppable. I have an easy to find g-spot and this hit is okay, but it didn't have my toes curling. It would have done a better job if the tip was thicker instead of being so pointy.

If you leave this toy out it's going to draw attention, so you should try and leave it where people won't be able to see it. It's a great size to travel with, but if you are packing it into a suitcase you may want to take the batteries out because the toy doesn't have a travel lock.

Speaking of batteries, the big issue I have with this toy is that it's very hard to open and close the battery cap! You have to grab the front and side parts only, because the back is too high to get a grip on the silver cap. It's also very slick, so it takes a few tries to get enough traction to unscrew it.

In total, this toy would be good for people who like shorter, thinner toys, but size queens should steer clear. This also isn't the best bet if you want a toy for g-spotting, because there's a good chance you won't be able to get any good g-spot stimulation going with this toy.

Functions / Performance / Controls

The Nyx doesn't have any more settings than the Io, but I was still much more impressed by the performance. The Nyx is actually a pretty rumbly toy!

The Nyx has five settings, which are controlled by the button on the base. When you're using this toy internally it's pretty easy to press during use, but if you accidentally change the setting it's not too big a problem to just cycle around again and find the one you were on. You hold down the button to turn it on, and then you press it again to cycle through the settings. The settings are as follows:

1) Solid (Almost 4 vrooms, 1.5 bees)
2) Bzzbzzbzzbzzbzzbzz
3) bbbBBBZZZZ bbbbBBBZZZZ
4) BZZ BZZ BZZ BZZ
5) bzbzBZBZ bzbzBZBZ

To turn this toy off you just hold down the button for 2 seconds. This makes it easy to turn off in a hurry. When you turn the toy back on it starts back at the first, solid setting.

The vibrations at the tip of this toy are SUPER strong, but are a bit weaker at the shaft of the toy. This makes it great to get the powerful stimulation straight to your clitoris, but it's a bit strange when you insert it to have this one, super strong point of vibration inside of you.

I have used this toy in the shower and washed it several times, and neither time did I find any water in the battery compartment. The o-ring keeps this toy waterproof, which makes it very convenient to use. The vibrations were the same strength under water.

This is the only toy out of the Nyx, Charms Curve, and Io that I have that actually seems to be worth the money. It's pretty darned powerful, especially at the tip, and the vibrations are delightfully rumbly. I still wish that it had more than one power setting, which would make it better for new users, but the patterns are a lot of fun to use.

Care and Maintenance

This toy is pretty easy to clean and care for. The ridges can can catch gunk, as can the seam where the plastic meets the silicone, but I have been able to clean those areas out fine just with my fingernail. I clean this toy with an antibacterial toy cleaner, but you can just as easily use soap and water or a toy wipe.

The best way to disinfect this toy is by wiping it down with a 10% bleach solution. This should be done every time you switch users to prevent the spread of bacteria and infection.

Silicone should not be stored in contact with other silicone toys because the two could react together, especially if they're from different companies. Similarly, you should not use silicone based lube with silicone toys.

Packaging

The Nyx comes in fairly nice packaging. It's different than the traditional Jopen packaging, which is a white box with the image of the toy on the front, but it's not different in a bad way. If anything, the packaging of the Key line is a bit more playful and approachable.

The front of the packaging has a slogan about the toy and an image of it. It's entirely black, white, and the color Nyx you chose. It has some minimal information in small print about the functions and what kind of battery it takes.

The back of the packaging is an image of the toy, again, and bullet points highlighting the most important features of the toy. On the sides are instructions in several different languages.

Inside of the outer box is a black box with white text. This gives you basic information about the entire line. It also talks about the quality guarantee and such. This opens up to show the toy itself. Under the insert that holds the toy is an instruction booklet and the storage bag.

This packaging would be great to wrap up and give as a gift. It's obvious about what's inside, but at the same time it's playful and attractive. I use the storage bag for storage because the box is pretty bulky.

Personal comments

The Io and the Nyx are the two 'Mini Massagers' in the Key line. There is also a line of 'Charms' that are listed as 'Petite massagers.' The Nyx and Io are similar in price and appearance, but there are some important differences.

The Io has a textured sleeve, while the Nyx is smooth. The Nyx also has a thinner tip and a girthier shaft, and it's also a bit stronger and more rumbly.

The Charms toy is much louder and weaker than both the Io and the Nyx. It's really not comparable to the two 'mini massagers,' because the $10 difference is huge when it comes to quality. Here's a photo to compare the three:

Io VS Charms VS Nyx

I'd just like to state that out of the three I think that the Nyx is by FAR the best option. If you want a Key toy but don't want to jump up to the $70+ toys, get the Nyx.

Experience

When I got my giant box of Key toys in, the first one I opened was the Io. That toy was a total dud, and wasn't at all worth the price tag for me. Because of that, I had lower than normal expectations for the Nyx. As soon as I turned it on I was blown away!

Even though it seems to have the same motor as the Io, instead of being a low 3 on the vroom scale it's almost a 4! It also is about half a bee quieter and is MUCH more rumbly. I loved using this toy externally, though I do wish it had a few more power settings.

Whenever I get a toy I immediately try it internally. While this toy was nice internally, the fact that the tip had super intense vibrations was a bit strange. I also couldn't get it to make contact with my g-spot very well since the tip was so much thinner than the shaft.

I would recommend this toy to a beginner who had some pocket money to spend or an advanced user who doesn't mind it not being stellar for insertion. It would also be good for couples, because the length and strong tip vibrations would make it nice to use externally during sex.

I am giving this toy 4 out of 5 stars. I took a star away for not having more power settings, being a pain in the butt to open, and being a bit expensive.
