Rasberry Rain

The Io is an okay toy, but doesn't live up to the price tag. The sleeves are a bit loose, especially when you insert this toy, and the power button is easy to hit when thrusting with it. It does have 5 settings, but only one of those is a solid, power setting. While it might be for some people, I think that there are a lot better toys out there for $50.

Use

The Key Io is a small vibrator. This toy is a bit smaller than a 'traditional' vibrator, but it's a bit larger than a bullet. The Io is part of the Key line by the luxury brand Jopen.

One way to use this toy is for vaginal insertion. While the toy is fairly small, it's girthy enough to feel the texture on the textures sleeve. While it doesn't have a g-spot tip, you may be able to use it for g-spot stimulation if you have an easy to find g-spot, though I couldn't get it to work for me.

This toy also can be used externally. The tip is pointy enough for fairly pinpoint stimulation, and the side of the shaft can be used for broader stimulation. It's alright to use on the nipples, the texture is fun on the labia, but this toy isn't too good for all-over massage.

No matter what this toy is not anal safe. There is no real handle or flared base to keep this toy from slipping inside of you and getting lost. This toy is too cute to make you go to the ER, so if you want an anal toy I'd look for something else.

If you want a first toy to use as a couple, this would be an okay option. It's not very scary to look at, and it's fairly versatile. I may suggest something a bit longer, but this can be used externally during intercourse and as foreplay. Having two textures also will help you figure out what you like.

I feel similarly about this being your first toy in general. The two sleeves give you two textures to try, it's a good material, and is relatively cheap. While a better choice might be something with a longer insertable portion, this wouldn't be a bad option.

This toy pretty much gets my Dorm Seal of approval, but it's a bit hard to clean. It's waterproof, so it's easy to take off the sleeve and wash it and the vibrator separate in there, but if you're playing in your room you can't exactly wipe it and go. It's quiet enough that no one's going to hear you through the door.

Material / Texture

The Io is made of plastic, silicone, and 'Stainless alloy' (which I am assuming is stainless steel.) These are all materials that rank very highly on the Eden Safety Scale.

Silicone is rated a 10 out of 10 on the Eden Safety Scale. It's nonporous and body safe, meaning that it won't leak gross chemicals into you and that bacteria can't live under the surface of the toy. It's flexible and soft, and usually has a bit of drag to it.

Metal, especially steel, is also nonporous and body safe. Both metal and silicone can be disinfected by boiling them for several minutes.

Plastic is rated an 8 out of 10 on the Eden Safety Scale. It's very firm, and almost never has any drag to it at all. Plastic can't be boiled, so in order to disinfect the plastic portion of this toy you should wipe it down with a 10% bleach solution.

I got this toy in 'Raspberry,' but it also comes in lavender and blue. The plastic shaft of the toy is a darker color than the silicone sleeves, and the button is silver. It's not super feminine, and is a very pretty color.

There are two sleeves that go on this toy, each giving it a different texture. The first sleeve is entirely smooth. The second sleeve features raised, rounded bumps. The bumps are raised and firm enough to feel them, but they're not painful or spiky like some textured toys can be.

I personally didn't need to use lube with this toy, but if you do a little bit goes a long ways. It's a tiny bit of a lint magnet, but it's certainly not sticky or tacky feeling.

In total, this toy is made of awesome materials. It also gives you two options for textures, so you can play around with and see which one you like the best. Plastic and silicone are great materials for all users.

Design / Shape / Size

The Io has a very sleek, attractive design. While it's not the most whimsical or out there, it's functional and I have no complaints.

The Io is made of a thin, plastic toy with a replaceable silicone sleeve. The silicone sleeve wraps around the shaft and covers the tip of the toy. To remove it you can pull at the tip or either side, and it's no effort at all to remove it. If anything the sleeves seem a bit loose, and I wish that they were a bit harder to remove.

With the sleeve on the Io is 4.25 inches in length. While the product page listed that this full length can be inserted, it has more like a 3 inch insertable length. It's also 3.25 inches around at the widest point with a sleeve on. This makes it much smaller than the average penis.

Because of the very short insertable length, most people will be less than satisfied with this toy internally. It also has no real g-spot tip, which may have been a good idea to add to the plain sleeve. This toy is really best for external use.

The small dots ion the textured sleeve can be felt, but aren't painful. There is a row of 6 dots that wraps around this toy from the top to the bottom of the sleeve. It's unique, but I didn't find it to make the price point worthwhile.

The toy that goes inside of the sleeve is certainly not the most unique design. It has a wide base where the button is, thins out where it unscrews, and then widens out at the tip similar to a baseball bat. The toy itself has no patterns and designs, and is slightly smaller than the sleeves in order to fit inside of them.

If you want a small external toy and like the idea of changing the textures, this would be a good toy. Even if you like shallow insertion this might not be for you, as it has a very small girth and length, even with the sleeves on.

Functions / Performance / Controls

When it comes to functions, the Io isn't going to blow anyone away. It's fairly basic, especially for the price tag, and doesn't have a whole lot of power. The vibrations are more buzzy than rumbly in this toy.

The Io has five settings, controlled by the button on the base. The button is fairly easy to push during use, but if you accidentally change the setting it's not too big a problem to just cycle around again and find the one you were on. You hold down the button to turn it on, and then you press it again to cycle through the settings. The settings are as follows:

1) Solid (3 bees, 2 vrooms)
2) Bzzbzzbzzbzzbzzbzz
3) bbbBBBZZZZ bbbbBBBZZZZ
4) BZZ BZZ BZZ BZZ
5) bzbzBZBZ bzbzBZBZ

To turn this toy off you just hold down the button for 2 seconds. This makes it easy to turn off in a hurry. When you turn the toy back on it starts back at the first, solid setting.

The vibrations are the strongest at the tip of this toy, but they can be felt at the base where you hold it. If you hold it for an extended period of time it might numb your fingers, but for short uses it seems to be fine.

I have used this toy in the shower and washed it several times, and neither time did I find any water in the battery compartment. The o-ring keeps this toy waterproof, which makes it very convenient to use. The vibrations were the same strength under water.

In total, this toy didn't rock my socks off. There is only one power setting, and that isn't super intense. It will probably be enough to get most women off, but people who need more oomph should steer clear of this one.

Care and Maintenance

This toy is very easy to clean and care for. It is a tiny bit of a lint magnet, but if you keep it in a clean place you can get away with just washing it after every use. I wash this toy with an antibacterial toy cleaner, but you can also use soap and water or a toy wipe.

Because you can get gunk stuck bewteen the silicone and plastic, it's best to wash the two separate. The nubs do collect gunk, but not to the point where I've had to use an old toothbrush or anything other than my nails to clean them out.

You can boil the silicone sleeves, but you can not boil the plastic. To disinfect this toy it's best to just wipe it down with a 10% bleach solution.

Silicone should not be stored in contact with other silicone toys because the two could react together, especially if they're from different companies. Similarly, you should not use silicone based lube with silicone toys.

Packaging

The Io comes in pretty classy packaging. It's different than the traditional Jopen packaging, which is a white box with an image of the toy on the front, but it's not different in a bad way. If anything, the package is a bit more playful and approachable.

The front of the package has a slogan about the toy and an image of it. It's entirely black, white, and the color Io you chose. It has some minimal information in small print about the functions and what kind of battery it takes.

The back of the packaging is an image of the two sleeves and bullet points highlighting the most important features of the toy. On the sides are instructions in several different languages.

Inside of the outer box is a black box with white text. This gives you basic information about the entire line. It also talks about the quality guarantee and such. This opens up to show the toy itself. Under the insert that holds the toy is an instruction booklet and the storage bag.

This packaging would be great to wrap up and give as a gift. It's obvious about what's inside, but at the same time it's playful and attractive. I use the storage bag for storage because the box is pretty bulky.

Personal comments

The Io and the Nyx are the two 'Mini Massagers' in the Key line. There is also a line of 'Charms' that are listed as 'Petite massagers.' The Nyx and Io are similar in price and appearance, but there are some important differences.

The Io has a textured sleeve, while the Nyx is smooth. The Nyx also has a thinner tip and a girthier shaft, and it's also a bit stronger and more rumbly.

The Charms toy is much louder and weaker than both the Io and the Nyx. It's really not comparable, because the $10 difference is huge when it comes to quality. Here's a photo to compare the three:

Experience

I was so stoked about this line of toys, I ordered three the day that they came out. I loved the colors, I really liked the other Jopen toys I had tried, and these all looked to be really high quality. Unfortunately the Io let me down.

My first problem was that the sleeves seemed a little loose. They become even looser with thrusting internally, and externally it just doesn't feel very solid. I was also a bit put off by the average vibration strength and the fact that it didn't have more than one power setting.

In total, I think that the Io is about $10 overpriced for what you get. It's cute, sure, but I wouldn't put it at a similar value to my Close2You Harmonia or my $50 Tantus toys. Beginners who don't have many other toys might get some use out of this, but if you already have a favorite this isn't going to top it.

In total, I am rating this toy 3 out of 5 stars. I docked one star for the price too high, and I docked another for the loose sleeves, only having one power setting, and the button placement where I keep hitting it during use.
