Hitachi magic wand vibrator sex toy review
I did not realize that I had spent my life as an adult having mediocre orgasms until I tried the Magic Wand. Having done so, I'll never look at an orgasm the same again.Published: May 7, 2008
Pros:
Outstanding quality, consistent vibrations, no batteries
Cons:
Short cord may require an extension, some may find the vibrations too strong
In a 2000 interview with the New York Observer, legendary sex educator and activist Betty Dodson observed, “If you ride your Wand for an hour or more, you can go into altered states of consciousness. Oh, it's fabulous!”
That says it all, doesn’t it?
The Hitachi Magic Wand hit the U.S. market in the 1970’s and, since its debut, has garnered legions of fans around the world - with good reason. It consistently provides the most powerful orgasms I have experienced in my life and has revolutionized my view of sex. I can’t claim to have had Ms. Dodson’s experience in riding the Magic Wand into a new reality... On second thought, maybe I can. I’ll return to that point after we’ve discussed the gory technical details.
Aesthetically, this is not an attractive vibrator. You wouldn’t want to leave it on your coffee table as some sort of post-modern design statement. The body is made of hard plastic with a soft vinyl head (roughly the size of an average tomato or a tennis ball). It has two speeds controlled by an easy-to-access switch and a plug-in cord.
If you’re into the whole sociology of sexuality, the Magic Wand’s design offers plenty of food for thought. Until well into the 20th century, most medical professionals deemed a woman’s sexual desire one form of “hysteria.” One reliable cure for the diagnosis was vulvular massage (read: masturbation). Even though manual stimulation worked by relieving the “hysteria,” doctors found the whole process time consuming enough to have an interest in automation (can you just imagine how sore their hands must have been? poor babies). Kelsey Stinner, a entrepreneurial British doctor, mechanized the entire masturbatory process with his invention of the first electronic vibrator in the 1880’s.
Even though no one had any doubt what these “massagers” were being used for, the vibrator continued to be sold as a medical device rather than a pleasure toy until well into the 1970’s. The Hitachi Magic Wand continues that legacy in its design.
The design may be functional at best, but the Magic Wand is tremendous in action. Google “Hitachi Magic Wand” and you’ll find thousands of reasons why women on every continent and in every age range love their vibrator. Here’s my contribution to that chorus.
I did not realize that I had spent my life as an adult having mediocre orgasms until I tried the Magic Wand.
This is where we return to Betty Dodson’s idea of the Hitachi Magic Wand providing a new reality. In a way it does. Before I got the Magic Wand, I would have honestly told you that I had a good sex life and that I was sexually fulfilled. My first Magic Wand orgasm changed all of that. My body reacted in a way that I didn’t know it could, setting a completely new standard for physical gratification.
I never looked at an orgasm the same again.

Hitachi Wand Vs. Acyvube
-
Is the hitachi better than the acuvibe for anyone who has had the chance to try both? I'm under the impression that they are essentially the same thing but maybe I'm wrong...
-
I have had both, and they are really both very good toys. The main difference really is that the Acuvibe is rechargeable and can be used cordless, while the Hitachi must plug in to work. Personally, I think that the Hitachi is slightly stronger, and it has definitely outlasted my Acuvibes - I have had two, and they both broke down after about six months or so.

The shell is starting to crack but it still functions great, I just wanted to know if we should switch when I do want to buy a new one. More powerful sounds good :)

The Size !!!!!!!
-
Does the size get in the way ??????? It's so BIGGGGGG........
-
In the way of what, exactly? It's not really a toy for couples play and actually it's not even designed for masturbation but has become the Holy Grail of vibrators through decades of word of mouth.
-

Universal

Is there a head set for universal attatchments anyone knows of?
-
There are a few. If you search the site you can find a couple.

Quote: Is there a head set for universal attatchments anyone knows of?I don't know if I understand the question, but the attachment we bought for our Hitachi is a "universal" attachment that we bought from another store. It's too "floppy" for me, but is a nice g-spot attachment, or would be if it was a little stiffer!

Bullet Vibes that rival the Hitachi Magic Wand
-
Hello, everyone!
Recently I've sold my Hitachi to a friend, and I've been on the market for a new clit vibe. I'm one of those girls who has a "clit-o-steel&quo t;, so I can't really get off unless I have something powerful on my clit. I bought a LAYAspot by FunFactory, thinking it would be a nice, powerful bullet to use when I'm with my partner, and I realized that it barely even packs a punch!
I guess I'm being a bit picky. I don't want something that's as strong as the Hitachi's HIGH setting, but something kind of inbetween the two, one that has a few nice, strong modes.
I was looking at the more expensive clit vibes- JeJoue's MiMi and Lelo's Siri. Do you think that they would be strong enough? Do you recommend anything? Thanks guys! -
Quote: Hello, everyone!U had the flexi anal rod prior to the Hitachi..It is strong as well, and it probably right between the hitachi hi and low... I actually prefer the two setting on Hitach..SHIT and OHH SHIT.. The flexi rod has about 4 if i'm not mistaken..Plus it is flexible as well.. Costs about 25.00

Hitachi
-
This is by far the best purchase I've made. My wife has a tough time reaching orgasm and needs the intense vibrations for her to climax. The Hitachi far exceeds this task, she doesn't use any other toy now, always reaches for the Hitachi. Just need to get her the G-spot attachment and she is set up. Thanks again.
-
I completely agree. The Magic Wand is the best vibrator ever.

Have you ever used a wand?
-
HI I was wondering if you have ever used anything like the Fairy Wand? I have used the baby fairy wand but its tiny... the size of the larger ones kind of intimidate me ... what are your thoughts on them and should I get one?
-
I dislike most of them intensely. They're too strong, too big and they make my whole vulva - as well as my hands - feel numb.
Many folks love them, though! -
I used the Wanachi Mini, which I really liked. Unfortunately it fell apart, it seems mine wasn't the only one either. I did contact Pipedream though and they seem eager to correct this problem!

Thank you for viewing Hitachi magic wand vibrator – massager review page!

Great review. Really intresting
Hi Lara! From my personal opinion, you've put together the best Hitachi review of all! Very interesting, insightful, informative and even eye-openning. Thank you very much.
Truly yours fan,
Grizli
Thank you for the compliments! I think it's so interesting how the Magic Wand is one of those iconic devices that is so very much more than *just* a vibrator. Glad you found it interesting as well.
If there's one thing I can say about this is that it's maintained popularity through the decades.. my mother had one and now I have one..
Wow, I forgot I was reading a user review for a second.
:D Very informative! Your touch on factual history is wonderfully useful, reminding us that vibrators have a story just like refrigerators, microwaves and toasters.
Thanks for the review
thanks for this review!
