The Magic Wand is my all time favorite toy. With multiple ways to use it and the ease of cleaning and storing, there isn't much to not like. I suggest anyone who wants to beef up their toy box to purchase this fabulous classic.

Use

Tons of sex toys come and go, due to fading popularity, faults, or other mishaps. The Magic Wand (formally known as the Hitachi), on the other hand, has been around for years! When I say years, I mean, it was popularized back in the 1960's. It was originally designed for clitoral stimulation, but many "attachments" have been designed for it to make it more insertable friendly. The Wikipedia page for the Magic Wand says "Academics have researched its use for treatment of female sexual arousal disorder and chronic anorgasmia—a sexual dysfunction in which a person cannot achieve orgasm." Taking into consideration how strong the vibrations are on this, I do believe that it could cure sexual dysfunction, or at least help one who hasn't been able to orgasm before reach an orgasm.

Despite the bulk of this toy, there are a variety of ways to use it and even some you may have thought of. It isn't rechargeable, and during use, you are bound to a certain distance from the outlet plug. But you'll never suffer from your [batteries dying while climaxing](https://www.edenfantasys.com/sex-forum/everyday-sex/better-orgasms-every-day/batteries-dying-climaxing/) again.

Material / Texture

The bulk of the toy is made from plastic. Hard, rigid plastic. Then you have the head which is silicone, and super easy to clean. There isn't a smell or taste to the material, and there is very little texture. You can purchase attachments for the head of the Hitachi to give it a texture or to add extra stimulation. But the Hitachi alone does not have any texture that could provide stimulation alone.

To clean the head you can use a mild soap and water, an alcohol pad, toy cleaner, or even a baby wipe. Silicone is not porous, but should not be stored with or used along with other silicone toys/lubricants. The head does bend, and if you squirt, clean up may be a bit harder as this toy is not waterproof in the least bit. Another thing to take note of is that material of the head is firm with little give.
    • No odor
    • Not porous at all

Design / Shape / Size

The entire wand is 12 inches long and only weighs 1.2 pounds. The head itself, the part you actually use, is 2.5 inches. The firmness of the head on the toy makes great for grinding against. I love placing it on the floor, straddling the toy and grinding against it on high. Considering the broad design of the head, it isn't great for pinpoint stimulation, but you can certainly hold it lightly against your clit. That method is the only way I have found that I can squirt without fail. If you're looking for something more relaxing, it can be used for back, neck, and other various body part massages.

For use during intercourse, it does take some positioning and creativity. But in missionary with the man sitting up on his knees, you can get it against your clit. You can also use it on your clit during doggy style. My favorite way to use the magic wand is not how it's advertised, and certainly not for the average user. I enjoy a decent girth, so I can insert the head of the wand into my vagina and push my clit against the side of it. This makes for mind-blowing orgasms, and gives me the stretching feeling I like so much!

Some other things to take note of:

* this toy only has a high and low setting, and even the low can be a bit much for beginners.
* this toy can be numbing if used for too long.
* this toy is not discreet and since it has been around for so long, most people know what it is.
* this toy is not easy to hide.
* your arm may cramp while using this toy, if used for long periods of time.

Functions / Performance / Controls

As mentioned above, the Magic Wand only has a high and a low setting. Most of the time, low is good enough to get me off. Considering it plugs into the wall, it is a very strong toy. I use the high setting for times when I want to get off quickly. I do not use the high setting often because it is quickly numbing and super loud.

The "controls" is a simple switch. Positioned in the middle is off, and one way is low the other is high. They are easy to use, but can get flipped during use interrupting your play time. Just be aware of where your hands are in relation to where the switch is located.

The Magic Wand can't be heard through doors, but it can definitely be heard through blankets or across a room. As I said above, it's fairly loud, especially on high, and will attract attention if you are trying to use it discreetly in, say a dorm room.

I have said it before, but I will say it again, the magic wand is not waterproof. I imagine the results of using this in the shower would be similar to throwing a toaster into a tub. Again, do not use the magic wand in water.

Care and Maintenance

I store the magic wand in my nightstand and clean it with a baby wipe. It's easy to care for, as I listed above, but will repeat again. To clean the head you can use a mild soap and water, an alcohol pad, toy cleaner, or even a baby wipe. Silicone is not porous, but should not be stored with or used along with other silicone toys/lubricants. You can also wipe down the handle with a damp cloth, but be sure not to get any water in to the mechanics of the toy (around the switch or base of the head/cord).
    • Easy to clean
    • Easy to store
Follow-up commentary
This is still and will always be my favorite toy. I love that it is powerful and simple. It has not lost any power due to age, it is easy to clean, and still resides by my bedside.

I understand the new MW has patterns now, but expensive. The EF Magic Force is a better buy and also cordless. At least that is my opinion.

Anyway back to commenting on your review. Great job ! And tips !

I showed my girlfriend a webcomic review of this toy last night... and I discussed how iconic this product is as a sex toy. The new wireless MW does have 4 patterns & 4 intensity levels... but definitely agree the Magic Force is definitely a better buy if you're on a budget. I don't have first hand experience with either... wonder if someone does and could chime in... to the boards?

    Anyway PolyLove, great review!!
