I've had mine for 13 years now. It was made for me when I was 10 by my second foster mother when I asked for a email. I only just changed the password back in 2009 because I had realized she still knew it.

You're very incorrect. SMTP came out in 1982. The internet became partially commercialized in 1993. People used the internet for research and academia well before the Eternal September. Consider that USENET was implemented in 1980 and online gaming started in 1978; people had been using email before then.

Although my oldest active email address is 25 yrs old, I had older addresses that are now defunct.

Besides, what do you think people did with the internet before 1993?

I'm glad someone more knowledgeable than I about the details could answer that because I have been trying to come up with a way to explain that I know of people who have used 'email' since the later half of the 80's at least-- but without having the energy to research it. Thanks for providing links, too!

Also, I checked mine and it's not just more than a dozen years, it's 20! Gosh, until I did the math, it shocked me it's been that long!

Also, people could send email on a BBS or services like AOL, CompuServe, and Prodigy, before consumers had access to the internet.

It came out in 1996. Web-based email hasn't been around nearly as long as standalone email clients with text-based email.
