I got this question looking at another thread. How many of you do the flame test on your silicone toys?
For those that don't know that flame test is when you put a match or some other flame under the toy. Pure silicone shouldn't melt at these temperatures, while a silicone blend will melt or burn.

I have never taken a lighter or a match to a sex toy. It actually never occurred to me. I'd be afraid I'd melt it. I do interesting things to test my toys, but I don't want to destroy any of them.
My guess is that lube burned due to something other than the silicone it in.
I haven't, but if I wanted to share something, and didn't have a definitive answer on the material, I probably would. Or if I was reviewing something from a new manufacturer, and previous reviewers had not, I would. Neither of these circumstances has arisen, though, so I have not.
It never occured to me to do... But now I would be curious as to how all my toys would perform. Well, but I still wouldn't do it because if they failed, I'd just be depressed about ruining a toy.
I apply Better Sex Essentials lube and flame to all my silicone for testing. HAHAHA
Seriously, I have never tried it before.
LOL We demand proof! VIDEO TIME!
I have tested toys that were claimed to be medical grade silicone but were under 20 bucks, so I was very skeptical. Neither was pure silicone though the damage to thge toy was to minimal to even tell. They both melted slightly.

Ok, so you just gave me an idea for the Halloween contest. mmm
Never have but I stay with known brands and have never had a problem. The silicone of the various manufactures seems to be consistent....some more pliable, others lifelike and some more rigid and unforgiving.
I have never thought of this; nor do I want to try it- silicone or not I love my toys and I don't want to ruin them! I will leave the testing up to the pyros
You can do a good job telling using scent and feel, so I haven't ever felt the need to go with a flame test. There's only one toy that I might have done it on, the Tenga Egg, because it was so soft and affordable that I found it hard to believe it was silicone at first (it was and is).
I don't either. It's not like we're going to be making love by ourselves or with somebody else in a burning building.
The reason I do it is because I have gotten products that are listed as silicone on the box that have turned out to *not* be 100% silicone. For the most part, it doesn't really matter unless it's a toy I may be using both anally and vaginally. Then? I need to know that it is able to be sanitized - and silicone blends cannot be, hence testing.
I have had two different toys turn out to not be silicone but, for the most part, I am pleasantly surprised.
I do not test toys from Fun Factory, Tantus, Vixen, Lelo or any of the other big silicone makers. The stuff I test tends to be $25 vibes listed as silicone that look or feel "off" to me.
I'm not fond of melting my toys but I'd rather melt one than get a bacterial infection.
I do not think we should bash manufacturers or speculate without reason, casting doubt upon good manufacturers who don't deserve it but I do feel the need to double check if things feel the least bit not quite right to me. It's my body. I want to keep it safe.

I have never flame tested silicone, never thought about it.

We test under these exact same circumstances (we never test the well-trusted brands either) and for the same reason. I don't want to be in the middle of boiling a toy some day and find out it wasn't pure silicone when we see dildo goo soup.

Exactly. I'm terrified of dildo goo soup covering my steel toys I may have put in the pot, too!
