Cornstarch on silicone toys?

Contributor: RedGlitter RedGlitter
Hello!
I've read in the past that you should dust your silicone dildos with cornstarch after cleaning them. Is that a good idea? I have one silicone suction cup style dildo that I've had for a few years, now. I do notice it gets a little "sticky".
Should I be using cornstarch? Thank you for any help!

A true 100% pure silicone toy will never get sticky - unless you are using silicone lubricant. In that case you are probably ruining the toy.

Corn starch is recommended for non silicone toys like UR3. Since what you describe is either not a silicone toy at all - or it is a very cheap one, in which case it couldn't hurt to try the corn starch.

Stick with reputable name brands like; Vixen, Tantus, Lelo, Fun Factory, Jimmy Jane, Bad Dragon, Vamp, etc. You will notice that they cost a little more - there's a reason for that. In this case you get what you pay for.

Awesome info! Thank you very much! I saw a review where they mentioned cornstarch on a silicone toy, so I was confused! Thanks for the great information and tips! I do have a silicone toy, but it's not, like, deteriorating, it is just it's typical texture. I will only buy silicone toys; I don't trust another material. Thanks again! ??

And thanks for the info about the lube. I do only use the recommended lube ??

We always use lube with our toys - but it seems to me that if you didn't wash off the cornstarch before adding the lube - you'd end up with a pretty big mess.

I have two drawers full of silicone dildos and vibes - and they often come in contact with one another - which is not recommended, but we've never had a problem. It seems that the cornstarch is an unnecessary complication.

Just curious - what silicone toys do you have? What are your favorites?

It sounds like the dildo is not for use anymore. As Gunsmoke already said, it could be caused by the wrong care. Please never keep silicone toys together and never use silicone-based lubes with silicone toys.

I think baby powder is a good choice

As far as I know, quality silicone toys don't require to be powered with corn starch or any other dust. But corn starch can help to keep toys made from materials like Cyberskin dry during storage.

Baby powder that contains talc has been linked to cervical cancer and shouldn't be anywhere near a vagina.

Cornstarch is generally used for male masturbators. To soften them after use and reduce the stickiness of the sleeve after prolonged use.

After, you are done washing it, wipe it dry completely with a soft cloth that is preferably lint-free. Or you can dry it off as much as you can and leave it to air-dry. But be sure that is completely dry before storing it, it helps to decrease the chances of mold and bacteria growth.
