I'm considering writing some erotica myself, or at least trying it out. My boyfriend and I think it would be fun to write together. We've spent most of our teenage years doing online roleplays and writing short stories (nerds that we are) and I've done some creative writing contests and such before. And with his amazing sexual creativity and my overactive imagination... who knows.

Alison, have you ever done any collaborative works with other authors before and did it change the experience?

Yeah it was. I've read stories before that I really liked. I much prefer to read, so it goes without saying that I prefer erotica over porn.

I did, but it was the book club that got Alan reading it with me

Finally back from the bank. It took longer than expected. So, what did I miss?

Always...I personally find it fascinating to see inside your mind...even if for just a little bit! Got a question though; why are you making the ebook anthologies smaller than the normal print ones? I would think that you could sell all your normal books in ebook form just fine...I know I would buy them that way...depending on which one it is. Some of them...I have to have a real copy to hold and read just before I turn out the lights...ya know?

Torn (one of her e-books) is on my "to purchase" list. I'm excited to see Thomas Roche's addition! How does such a small group of stories come together? Do you specifically recruit people or are they stories that have been subbed and just hadn't found a home yet??

Alison, In Red Hot Erotica, I found some of the stories to be a bit more R rated. They were good, but a bit more like soft porn as opposed to XXX. Is that common in erotica books?

I think erotica has a certain spark. I'd gladly take erotica over porn, but at the same time, I want whichever one has a plot. Two Cleis Press novels I've read (Carrie's Story, Safe Word) had a full storyline with sex which was like a godsend. I wish more erotica was full novels.

I have collaborated a handful of times in a variety of ways. My favorite co-author is Thomas Roche. He rocks my world. There are only a few people (Lindsay! Hi!) who can tell all of our stories apart in His and Hers.

I've co-written a few stories, too. I absolutely enjoyed the process. Way back in the early 90s, I collaborated with a writer who lived in a different state. Again, before email. He would fax me his part of the story in the middle of the night. Needless to say, I became a bit Pavlovian—when I heard the machine crank out the curly paper, I'd get wet.

I used to write it for an online site... I thought it was dreadful but other people liked it

Red Hot Erotica was the second in my heat "trilogy." First up was Heat Wave, then RHE, then Playing with Fire. I love how authors take a concept like "heat" and run with it.

I have to say that although it must be harder to do themed anthologies it does seem to make the stories flow. Love your work BTW!

In all honestly, porn doesn't do it for me. I don't find it arousing, at all. In most instances, it's actually a turn off. So I find it strange that erotica really turns my crank, considering real live sex scenes don't.

I'm still paper format kind of girl because I don't "read" on my computer. Plus, I LOVE my bookshelves and all of the gorgeous covers, it's just not the same on a pdf.

At the time, I was also editing harder core collections, like the ones in the bondage series: Best Bondage Erotica 1 and 2, Slave to Love, Hurts So Good, Love at First Sting. I wanted to have a few books that were slightly lighter in tone.

But then again, I got slammed with a review a few weeks ago by someone who thought my very mildest book was filled with "hardcore sadomasochism"—so you'll never be able to please all of the people!

It's not strange. You can enter a written story completely. You become a part of it instead of a mere observer. And when you do that, you physically react to what you're reading.

We're putting together these small ones as a little group. The stories are written specifically on the theme. I hope to do a series of the "Torn" ones — Torn, Shredded, Whole. I'm still testing the water with ebooks. I want my authors to make some $$ for their efforts. I don't know how I'd do with a 20+ collection of writers at this point. Hopefully, someday soon!

Oh well you've got a point there. And since it was my first full book, I really didn't know what to expect.

I actually agree with this. It's hard to explain WHY, like when my boyfriend asks me about it, but he just chalks it up to my quirks.

Not strange at all. Erotica leaves something to the imagination, and imaginations can get *real* exciting!
