Naked Reader Book Club Discussion: RED HOT EROTICA, edited by Alison Tyler (7-11 PM EST)

Contributor: Kristina Wright Kristina Wright
Speaking of stories and preferences, in my introduction, I asked what you prefer as a reader-- the first person story ("I") or the third person story ("she")? In general, it seems like erotica might be weighted a little heavier on the first person side (including the stories in Red Hot Erotica).

I've written and enjoy both first and third person, but what do you think? Does it matter? Does point of view affect your enjoyment of the story?

A full length novel would be very cool!

As it goes with the book vs. computer thing, I'm totally an online reader. Dunno why.
I've never seen a Cedric Diggory/Edward Cullen story, but I'd like to read just *one* Draco Malfoy/Tom Felton fic. IT would be so juicy.. The character he plays is like the complete opposite of the actual person! He's such a sweetie in real life. I've thought about writing it a doze times, I've just never had the motivation to do it. I'm a good writer, but I enjoy reading more..

But yes I have indulged in video game/book fanfic smut before quite a bit. I think my worst was ... more

There are only two in the DND anthology that are really out there cheating stories...the rest aren't threatening or hard to stomach if you know what I mean.

I'm more for first person. I think it's simply because I tend to put myself in the position of the subject of the story and it translates easier in my mind not to think of myself of 'the girl', but as "I".

Personally, I prefer first person. But then again, I write in mostly first person. So that may have something to do with it. It's just easier mentally jump into a story like that for some reason.

I actually prefer 3rd person, probably because I can get what's going on with both/all the characters. With first person I'm limited to just the main one the story is following. Makes for a different kind of story, yes, but I'm just rather used to third person in general.

Oh that's good to know! I'm sure I'll like it either way, I'm OK with looking at it just as fiction, but I'd be more willing to recommend it to others now

I like variety, and a mix of everything in an anthology keeps it nice and fresh. If it were for a book, I'd go with the first person.

I tend to like first person stories but when I spin stories for myself in my head it is usually in third person...strange no? I prefer to write in third person but I get more compliments on my first person stories. I'm all over the board, I just like reading erotica LOL

Absolutely! My husband just bought an iPad... too bad they're "anti-erotica."

Personally, I never hopped on the Snape bandwagon. Though the actor, Alan Rickman, was pretty damn hot in Dogma.

Do Not Disturb is my favorite non-kink erotica book. I work in a hotel, though, so I'm biased. Gotta say that, yesterday, for the first time in the three months since I started, I heard people having sex while I was in the hallway. First time.

I'm not sure if EF sells the second one. Yes, they do: link I think I bought it here and reviewed it here too. Any book I read ends up getting reviewed - it's like a bad, bad habit.

I can enjoy both. Reading first person tends to put me in the role of the woman involved, but there's a voyeuristic kick to reading third person tales of lust.

It does make for a different kind of story. I think in first person you're allowing the author to carry you through the story personally, instead of being a bystander, watching what is going on. Know what I mean?

It doesn't affect my enjoyment at all, I think it's easier to place myself in the scenario when it uses first person, but I can do the same thing with third.
