Bind Yourself in Comfort

The rope is cheap, but it isn't worth the price. This product does its job, but it's not exciting in the least.

Use

If you were looking for good, comfortable rope, then this might be your product. The Japanese silk rope is 35 feet long, a soft braided rope that will not chafe except under the roughest of circumstances. This product also comes with a free blindfold, which, while cheap, is very good at blocking out light. The rope is very good for binding your partner, or creating kinbaku bindings (Japanese rope bondage, usually in patterns creating a karada, or "rope dress"), and is surprisingly strong enough to be used for suspension. This could be used for beginners who want to make sure they have enough rope, to advanced users who are interested in taking their bindings to a whole new level.

Design / Craftsmanship / Material / Size / Fit

The craftsmanship of the rope is a bit shoddy at the ends, with the tips being bound by only removable silver tape. The silk feels very comfortable, but the dye is easily discolored and the rope attracts a ton of dust and hair. If you let the tape come off the ends of the rope, it will unbind easily.
    • Adjustable
    • Fits comfortably
    • Multiple ways to use

Performance

The rope did work well for kinbaku on myself and restraining my partner. The rope does what it's supposed to do, but it's not intended for much use outside of the bedroom because of its appearance and its uncanny talent for attracting dust, dirt, and hair.
    • Comfortable during use
    • Easy to put on / use

Care and Maintenance

Keep this rope in a place that has no lint, dust, dirt, or hair. I find that storing it in a dark, usually unused drawer.
    • Easy to store
    • Hard to clean
    • High maintenance

Personal comments

If you're looking for something comfortable, this is a good bet. If you're looking for durability and utility, anything else would be better.
Follow-up commentary
The rope has started to fray, and it has lost all of its grip. The last time I used it, a knot slipped and cut off circulation to my boyfriend's hands. This rope is cheap, and it shows.

It saddens me that it attracts so much dirtiness and is "bad quality." Although, being a beginner with rope/bindings/etc. I may still get it for a first try.

I've gotten my hands on some silk rope from Pipedreams, (they sell a 200 foot length on a huge spool), and spent all of yesterday cutting it into good lengths and whipping the ends. I'm hopeful that the rope I have will be better than this shorter length, but I'm not expecting too much. So far I've found it comfortable across the skin -- but the plushness, shine and give of the rope have me worried. Especially your comment about the rope slipping on a knot!

Thanks for a great review, I'll be keeping your comments in the back of my head as I use my rope.

Thanks for the review, and the warnings therein. Do you know if this is real silk, or synthetic? Would I be able to melt the ends to keep them from fraying?

That's terrifying! I wouldn't want a knot to slip during play.

  • "fetish fantasy series japanese silk rope" -- not silk
    • LazyNinja
link manufacturers page states that this rope is actually made out of cotton.

Talk about a misleading/lying branding system. Is Japanese Silk a trademark of theirs that they make out of chinese cotton?

  • 'Silk' bondage rope listed under 'suspension kits'
    • Hey, Eden? I would like to respectfully suggest you remove this from the 'suspension kits' category. This type of rope is *not* safe for suspension. It's not real silk (Pipedream has confirmed it is actually a cotton/polyester blend), so can fray easily, stretch, and is just a poor idea if you don't want to risk dropping your submissive on their head.

I agree. I made sure to put in my review that the rope is not intended for suspension or partail suspension
    • Oh my goodness that's scary misinformation...;O

    • what are they made of
    • This is a question that could easily be answered by reading the product page! If you just scan it really quickly you can see that hey, these silk ropes are made of rope! It also gives you a link explaining the care of the materials, which is this link! A lot of these questions are better left off of the forums! :)

Rope is typically made of hemp, linen, cotton or (as in this case) silk. To say that rope is made of rope is a bit redundant. :D

But yeah, materials are always listed on the product's page, billybobtoy. It'll always be to the left of the product's picture, and it'll link to some basic care instructions. Though if you need more in-depth information, don't hesitate to ask.
