I Love Female Orgasm - guides to a better sex by Marlowe&Company - review by Essin' Em

Not only do I Love Female Orgasm, I also love this book. I collect sex books; a sex book connoisseur if you will. I'm talking shelves and shelves, from textbooks to academic discourses to biographies/autobiographies, and a whole slew of mainstream "how to," "guide to" and "everything you needed to know" books. It's an addiction, I'll admit it.

However, this is the first book I've ever read that really straddled the gap between the traditional mainstream, pop culture sex books, and the academics texts. That is freaking awesome! While I love me some academic gobbledygook, trying to tell your partner that s/he needs to wait for transudation to occur before they attempt penetration, or that you prefer to have your Gräfenberg-spot manually stimulated with two digits, can sort of kill the mood. On the other hand, I've found that many pop culture sex books seem to make up some of their info or maybe get it from less than reliable sources on "the internets". They also tend to skip over important things, like the fact that not every woman wants to have an orgasm all the time, or that lube = key to life, love, and the pursuit of happiness, and occasionally exclude entire groups (many forgo discussion of queer relationships, trans issues, etc). Both types of books have many advantages, but also failings when put into practice.

I honestly think this book transcends the academic/mainstream binary. It is well researched, provides accurate information and quotes well known people in the sexology field, such as Dr. Beverly Whipple. The book also uses layperson terms (such as clit, rather than clitoris), addresses the reader in a friendly and open manner, and provides information relevant to everyone, regardless if it's your first time reading a sex book or if you study sexuality for a living. It doesn't matter if this is your first attempt to induce a female orgasm or if you are like the energizer bunny, and can keep coming and coming and coming all night. This book will appeal to the wide variety of women who love and want female orgasms (including transwomen), and their partners.

There were a few little bits that I thought weren't quite up to snuff with the rest of the book (and one or two points I thought were dead wrong), but for the most part, this is an EXCELLENT book for any woman, or partner of a woman. It talks about everything from manual stimulation to finger fucking, oral sex to anal sex, and anything in between. In addition to what the authors have to say about each subject, there are also direct quotes from some of the thousands of women who were interviewed.

5 stars from me on this one, and I recommend it to EVERYONE. Every woman should have a copy, as should people who partner with women. And if you're a man who only has sex with men, well, get a copy and give it to your favorite girl friend. She'll love you even more.
