There have been a lot of reviews on this bad boy, since it has been around for quite some time, but there is something to be said for the old tried and true. The Hitachi magic wand is a favorite in our household, both for solo runs and couple play. If you are one of those people who likes a lot of power in your toys, then this is the one for you.
I was given this by a family member because I have tension in my shoulders; little did they know they were giving me a vibe. It certainly relieved my tension.
It is big and bulky; so it is not something you can discreetly pack with you. On the plus side, as I said I was given it by a family member as a massager; so, when you fire this puppy up and your roommate hears the roar, they will not necessarily know you are using it for a different kind of relief.
Whether you like it as a vibrator or not, it is worth buying as a massager. My muscles knot into rocks, they get so tight. With the long handle, I can reach the middle of my back myself and the highest setting is powerful enough to really work on my muscles. On a side note, it does start to get pretty warm after about twenty minutes. It is really sturdy and gets a lot of use as a massager and has lasted quite a long time. Just make sure you clean it well between uses.
As a vibrator, it did take a little practice for me to get it just right because it is incredibly powerful. I was shocked the first time I put it anywhere near my clit. I generally keep my underwear on as a little protection against the intensity and then hit low. The highest setting is a bit too intense for me; it feels like it might burn my clit off, which wouldn’t be good. I’d imagine if you like a little pain with your pleasure then the highest setting should do the trick.

I had a rechargeable mini fairy wand, but last week it ended up breaking, and now I'm desperately looking for a similar type wand massager. I've looked at a couple, but I'd really like some input on which massager people are recommending. Thanks!

I have 3 wand massagers that I use at times. There are things I love and hate about all of them. The hitachi is the most powerful one, but it is so loud! The Wahl 2 speed is also great. It is the quietest and I love how rumbly the vibes are! But none of the attachments are quite right for me. If I could only have one wand I would get Inspire. It has a button that you press and release when the power is at your desired strength. In stead of just 2 speeds like the hitachi or the wahl you have control over how much power you want to use. The Inspire has a detachable silicone head. My complaints are that it gets hot after about 20 minutes, at at the higher speeds it gets pretty loud. Your toy was rechargable, but the wands I listed all plug in and have more power. Good luck with your replacement!

Yeah, the rechargeable wands tend to get really hot too, plus it would die after 20-30 minutes, so I needed to stay near an outlet at all times. Noise isn't really an issue for me (at least not right now). The one I had before had an adjustable wheel for vibration intensity, but to be honest, I always turned it all the way up and never changed it, so maybe I don't really need adjustable speeds.
I've never tried any of the detachable heads. Are they worth buying?

I can't speak from experience about either of those vibrators though. However, if you want something similar to the Hitachi, I would suggest either The Wahl or a Fairy Wand. I own the Hitachi, Wahl, and Fairy Mini but highly suggest the Wahl. It is the most rumbly of the three and is nearly silent.

I have had both, and they are really both very good toys. The main difference really is that the Acuvibe is rechargeable and can be used cordless, while the Hitachi must plug in to work. Personally, I think that the Hitachi is slightly stronger, and it has definitely outlasted my Acuvibes - I have had two, and they both broke down after about six months or so.

I bought a LAYAspot by FunFactory, thinking it would be a nice, powerful bullet to use when I'm with my partner, and I realized that it barely even packs a punch!
I guess I'm being a bit picky. I don't want something that's as strong as the Hitachi's HIGH setting, but something kind of inbetween the two, one that has a few nice, strong modes.
