Coochy Creme or Conditioner?

Overall, Coochy Shave Creme is a good product. It gets the job done. However, I find it just as effective as using conditioner (which is cheaper and comes in a larger bottle). It is thick and smooth, but it will not provide sensitive skin with a miracle answer to shaving your intimate areas.

Coochy Shave Creme comes in an 4-ounce bottle, with a product label declaring that this is Coochy, a rash free all-over body shave "creme." Faded in the background of this pink and gray label is a pair of silky smooth legs. There is also a little green circle on the side of my bottle saying that the product has Aloe in it for sensitive skin. I ordered the Pear Berry flavor, which is noted on the bottom of the label beneath the silky smooth.. feet.

It seemed pretty straight-forward and easy to read, so I flipped the bottle around to the back to read a little more about this product. The back lists out the ingredients of this shave cream:
D.L. Water, Steralkonium Chloride, Cetyl Alcohol, Stearyl Alcohol, Hydroxyethylcellulose, Glycerin Stearate SE, Jojoba Oil, Lanolin, Keratin Protein, Panthenol, Allantion, Methyloparaben, Fragrance, Propylparaben.

Well, this product might not be suitable for the most sensitive of skin. The alcohol products might be good as an astringent..? Either way, those who are trying to steer clear of parabens should avoid this product.
I, however, am not steering clear of parabens in my bath products. Undeterred, I read on to see the product's suggested usage. This can be used as a shaving cream, and as the name suggests... It is formulated specifically for the sensitive skin of your pubic area. You can also use this as a general leg and underarm shave cream. And, to top it off, you can also use this as a conditioner to make any hair on your body extra soft. To use for shaving, just moisten the area you want shaved, apply Coochy, shave and rinse.

Enough about the outside of the bottle! I wanted to know how this smelled. That is one of my biggest joys with bath products. A good smell. I opened up the seal underneath the push-top cap, and took a big whiff. I was unimpressed, but not heartbroken. The pear berry does seem like a soft, distant fragrance. It smelled more like berry than pear to me. I wasn't that upset but the underwhelming scent of this shave cream; this was formulated for sensitive skin (and, likely, sensitive noses as well).

Now, I pressed down the cap of the bottle to dispense some shave cream into my palm. The first few uses, the product came out pretty easily.. But then, rather quickly, I found myself shaking the bottle violently and squeezing it really hard to get anything dispensed into my hand. It was only after two uses that I experienced trouble. I think the company would have done better with a pump-top for this cream. If you are at all experiencing carpal tunnel, or if you have arthritis in your hands, I might suggest finding something a little easier to use. I have none of these problems, and I still hurt my hand squeezing.
Experience
Coochy Shave Creme is a lightly tinted pink color (my Pear Berry is, at least). It comes out thick and creamy, very similar to hair conditioner. In fact, I would compare this product most to regular old hair conditioner. It does not have a slimy or greasy feel, like some conditioners may have.

It also spreads just as easily, gliding over the skin nicely. It does not lather up. You will not have a foam map on your body of where to shave next. A little goes a long way, and it will stick to your skin until you wash it off. It does wash off rather easily, so you won't be scrubbing at your legs or pubic area waiting to feel cleaned off.

Now, I have used this product on my legs and underarms. It does just as good of a job as conditioner or regular shaving cream. As for my "coochy," I have used this there as well. Following all of my rituals to ensure a good shave, this product is not anything special or unique. It is just like conditioner. I do not get a completely clean shave; I still have a little stubble even when I go parallel to the grain, then across the grain of my hair.
I still get ingrown hairs and red bumps.

While I do not have razor burn, I wouldn't have it using conditioner either. And I still get the day-after irritation, itching, and pain that I normally get.

As for shaving, this does the job. It just doesn't do any miracles, and it does not do any better than regular old conditioner. Sorry, Coochy Shave Creme, I wish you could do more for me in that regard...

Now, I told my boyfriend about this shave cream. He decided to try to use it as a conditioner on his beard. He did as the instructions told him to (rubbing it into his beard while in the shower, leaving it on his face for a few minutes before rinsing off).
The result? Not as soft as when he uses conditioner.

While I do think Coochy Shave Creme is a vast improvement over regular shaving creams, I don't think it beats my hair conditioner. Maybe my conditioner is just really great. I do have really sensitive skin, though, so that may be why I don't have marked success using Coochy on my coochy.
For the price-tag, and the amount I am getting, I don't think I'll make this purchase again. I am sure the four ounces will last a long time, since the creme is so thick and spreads so easily.
Follow-up commentary
I find this kind of useless to me! Conditioner and my body wash-- Say Yes to Carrots shower gel in particular-- do a far better job for me and don't gunk up my razor!

This is such a small bottle, too, it seems like such a waste. I don't recommend.

Tigerkate, your reviews are so great. Thanks for thinking of everything for me. Even a beard-conditioner test! Pear Berry seems like a nice scent, but I probably won't be taking this home.
