Currant? Or Rose?
Jimmyjane Afterglow Candles set the standard in massage candles, with their fast melting, non greasy wax that leaves the skin soft and smooth and provides a long, full body massage. A little goes a long way and the applicator brush makes it easy to control both how much and where the wax is placed.Published: December 10, 2009
Pros:
Long lasting, non greasy wax, long burn time, excellent applicator brush.
Cons:
The scent was off, smelling nothing like currants and a lot like roses.
Follow-up commentary

As always, Jimmjane holds a special place in my heart. I adore their products. This past weekend, however, we took a romantic weekend away to celebrate our anniversary and I brought both my Cucumber Water and the Currant candle along with me.
I found something I thought worth mentioning...
I received the Cucumber Water one awhile back, from another retailer, when these first came out. At that time, phthalates were listed on the box as an ingredient. They no longer are. I have no idea if that would make a difference or not but the Cucumber Water candle, when melted and applied, was much less waxy and lighter than the Currant was.
Odd, eh?
Maybe it's the different ingredients used for scent but I wanted to mention it.

Jimmy Jane Afterglow candles- Best Scent?
-
what's the best Jimmy Jane afterglow scent? or the better ones?
-
Well, first off, there are lots of threads on the scent of these candles already. But ignoring that, I think it's really up to your preference in smell.
In my experience, all the scents are fairly high quality, so it just depends on what you like. I personally favor the Dark Vanilla and Bourbon scents. My good friend prefers the Water Cucumber, while it is totally not for me. Some people love the Truffle Gardenia, but it's comparatively very floral. I would really like to try the Vetiver Honey in the ember series.
My recommendation would be to go with what is most similar to your usual favorite scent. Sweet edibles? Masculine spices? Flowers? Citrus? Or you could always try the sampler. More expensive but awesome :-) -

The special edition scents look tempting, but I would also like to make sure I purchase something both my partner and I would like. Also I kind of wanted to get a general sense of what is most widely liked. Which I feel I could have gotten with a poll, but unfortunately I am not sure how to do that. I did see a post explaining that to post a poll it the option is next to the post discussion option, but I have seen no such poll option.

Can you describe the scents of the Afterglow massage candles from Jimmyjane?
-
If your own words and from your own personal experience can you please describe what the different scents are like? I'm having trouble deciding on which ones to get. Thanks! =]

I did a review on the Afterglow Sampler set, but this is what I have with the scents.
Cucumber Water smells like a crisp, clear, watered down version of a cucumber melon scent, and is quite possibly my favorite. Pink Lotus has a decidedly floral scent to it; not overpowering but definitely there. It's hard to pinpoint anything more specific than "floral" for me on that one. Truffle + Gardenia (the special edition one, also available as a regular Ember candle) is also hard for me to pinpoint. It smells like an earthy floral to me, a more involved scent. Bourbon smells sweet to me, almost like molasses or something else I'd bake with. Dark Vanilla still smells like a generic "vanilla cookie" scent to me. And Grapefruit. To me, there's a hint of citrus and a whole lot more of something I can't put my finger on. When I first smelled it I thought back to the Habanero + Grapefruit mini Ember I have, only this is a little less spicy to the nose. JJ claims notes of grapefruit, bell peppers, and mandarin for this one. -
Thanks! I think the ones I want to try most are Dark Vanilla, Cucumber Water, and the Truffle Gardenia... and the Bourbon. Jeez I want to smell them all. Choosing which to buy online is difficult but I'm sure whichever one I choose I'll love it anyway. =]

Afterglow Packaging

I was just curious - Jimmyjane has changed the style of the Afterglow candle to the "pour spout" that's rocked by the Ember. Is EF still selling the old style with the brush as indicated by the picture?
FYI I'm in favor of the pour divot format! -
This is something I'd like to know, too. *Bump*
-
The new version features a spout for easy pouring and that is what currently available on EF.

Thank you for viewing Afterglow – massage candle review page!

Great review!
I wasn't particularly happy with the fig leaf scent either. But I agree these are wonderful massage candles. I think I'll try the bourbon or vanilla next time.
The scents seem to be more... hmmm... "grown up" and perfumey, to me, than what I'm used to. I expect bath and body works type scents and get fancy ones instead. Heh
Hmm - that doesn't sound like what I would think it smelled like. I think I'm going after the bourbon one
Good review!
@newme21 Try bourbon. It takes a bit to get used to it, because it's unlike any candle scent I've ever tried; sweet and earthy at the same time. I love it!
@Laurel It does sound nice. Thanks!
I still want to get one. Great review as usual. Love your take on it.
Is this your very favorite massage oil product? I want to get the Contour M and a massage oil to use with it. But the Contour M won't necessarily know whether I'm using a JimmyJane massage oil!
It is my favorite massage candle and I really love them but, honestly, my favorite massage products - hands down - are the Flower Power and Sensuous massage oils. I just love the way both of those smell and work.
One thing I've found with the Afterglow candles that is sort of disappointing is, because they have no cover, they lose a lot of scent after a few months. I've taken to covering mine with a square of wax paper now because my currant one, after having been opened for like six months without a cover, pretty much had no smell at all. And they're so long lasting and I switch up so much between oils and candles, there's no way I'd use a whole candle in six months.
Cool - the Sensuous is MUCH cheaper than the massage candle! I still want to try the candle at some point (when EF gets Dark Vanilla back in stock), but I at least want to get started out with something to experiment with massage.
I love candles this sounds like an amazing one. Especially with the added benefit of wax for massage I definitely want to try one, but what scent is the best? I like more serene scents that aren't as flowery.
great video review!
thanks, so great to see the sizes!
THANK U 4 THE REVIEW!
thanks great review
How does the cucumber water scent compare as far as accuracy?
thanks for the review.
I was struggling with which scent to go with, thank you! I think I will try the bourbon.
