I was given the bourbon scented afterglow candle as a gift from my sub who wanted to be able to give me a massage with an oil approximating the smell of one of my favorite things. Not only does this candle offer an amazing massage oil that cleanly soaks into the skin, but it also creates the perfect atmosphere to carry a massage into more strenuous activities as the night goes on.

This candle is also great if you are interested in branching out into temperature play or wax play. The oil doesn't get hot enough to cause the noticeable red marks associated with the higher temperatures of other candles, but it is definitely warm enough to feel a difference between oil warmed by a candle and oil warmed by your partner's hands alone.

If you're more interested in using the oil from this candle on yourself, it would certainly make for the perfect thing to leave burning on the edge of the tub while you take a nice relaxing bath. Light it before you sink into the water and by the time you get out, you'll have the warm oil waiting for you to work into any tired muscles or just to leave your skin a silky and soft as possible.

When the candle isn't lit, it's clear that it's not the same as the "normal" candles you're likely to find decorating a home. Touching the solidified wax will leave a slight oily residue on your finger, but when I discovered that upon first opening the package, I was excited to see how smooth the oil would be once it was warm. After letting the candle burn for about twenty to thirty minutes so the wax had a chance to melt to the edges of the container, I was pleased to find the oil was warm and smooth -- perfectly suited for massages. Even better, it doesn't leave your skin feeling sticky or slippery.

The great thing about the consistency of the oil is that it lasts long enough for a good massage without having to add more oil to the skin after only a couple minutes. However, because of that, it takes a little while to rub in to the point where there is no residue, especially if you happen to get too much to begin with. Again, that's great if you are using this for a massage, but if you don't want to sit there long enough to really massage it into your legs after a shower, it might be annoying. Still, I would absolutely recommend this candle because once you do get the oil worked into your skin, you'll certainly be happy you did so (and you'll have the slight scent of the candle to remind you of why your morning/evening was so great).

The scent, oh the scent. I have the bourbon Afterglow candle and even though there are others I'd like to try, it'd be difficult for me to choose something else when I love this one so much. The scent isn't light (you're going to smell it, that's for sure), but I don't find it overpowering. I can't speak for the other scents, but the bourbon candle really creates a warm and sensual environment. Plus, the scent lingers on your skin even when there is no tactile trace of the oil, which is something I really enjoy.

A little bit of this easy to pour oil goes a long way, which means your candle will last for quite a long time. As I mentioned before, it absorbs into the skin, but it will take a little bit of work. Seeing how this is a massage candle, that is perfect, but if you aren't interested in using it for a long sensual massage, you might not like it as well.

I like the scent of mine and I like how it lingers, but should you wish to leave your skin scent-free, it will take soap and water. That's really the only situation in which I would imagine you'd want to wash it off. As long as you love the scent, you're going to love how soft and moisturized your skin feels.

The candle itself will burn up to 32 hours, but even if you light it long enough to let a small amount of oil melt before you blow the flame out and begin to play, the oil will remain a liquid for about thirty minutes (plenty of time to get more oil if you need it).

The absolute best thing about the packaging for this candle is the pouring spout molded into the porcelain container. It makes this product easy to use, and mess-free. Also, the candle is very sleek and classy, giving no hint of its sensual purpose. Basically, you can leave it out on your nightstand without worry (in case you have nosy family or something).

Along with the candle, you'll receive an information booklet that will tell you just how to use the candle so it lasts as long as possible, as well as answer any questions you might have about what the candle is made of (it's body-safe and paraben-free!).
