Use

The Afterglow Massage Candle by JimmyJane is a candle that not only is made to set the mood, but to add some fun into your foreplay. I have always wanted to try playing with wax. This is a product that can be used for ambiance and those more daring to drip wax on their lover. This is also a product one could use on themselves for softer/silkier skin.

The design of the product is simple and plain enough to also burn in general living areas should you purchase and discover you're not thrilled with the experience, but love the fragrance.

This was my first time experimenting with hot wax and as thus I see this as a good product for beginners as well as seasoned users. I have ridiculously sensitive skin, and experienced no negative reactions in my use. This leads me to express that it should not cause negative reactions as far as sensitivity is concerned. One should be cautious when using product to ensure wax has cooled enough before pouring on skin.

Texture / Consistency / Thickness / Viscosity

The design of the canister in which the candle is placed has a spout which makes the product super easy to use and pour right from the container. There was some dribbling from the spout upon pouring though so look for that!

I let the wax cool a bit before pouring it on although it was not overly hot to touch. My husband is away right now so I was able to get a feel for the product before I completely scare him!

I poured a little on my hand and rubbed it into my hand and arm. It is slick and (obviously) oily. I was surprised it was so smooth - It melts down rather nicely. It immediately ran down to the sides of my hand- so you might want to make sure you apply small amounts at a time or it could get messy.

Taste / Aroma

I got the bourbon scented candle and my very first reaction opening the box was that it is a very faint scent. Kind of a musky sweet - if that makes sense. Not like you're walking into a bar, but sweeter and caramel-esque. I honestly wasn't sure how I would like the fragrance when I made the purchase, but as a southern girl, was surprised and comforted by them smell. As burned the candle I was expecting the ragrance to possibly stengthen and come out a little more, but could barely smell it from a few feet away. Upon application the smell is overl smokey and not so sweet.

I did not taste the product.

Performance

This was the first time use of the product, but I will definitely follow up with how long it lasts! It is a good size candle and I envision it lasting for a good while. JimmyJane advertises 32 hour burn time. Upon pouring the wax, there is some dribbles, so perhaps have a coaster down.

There is no need to wash the oil off since it absorbs rather nicely into your skin. I wasn't a fan of the fragrance for everyday, but I think my husband will like it. It is more of a "manly" fragrance.

I thoroughly enjoyed that this is thy type of product I could light while I'm getting ready for a shower, and then by the time I get out have a silky oil to rub into my skin as it did leave it softer and silkier.
    • Absorbs into skin nicely
    • Feels natural

Packaging

The candle comes in a small box with a sticker sealing the top of the container, locking in the fragrance. There is a little instruction booklet that comes with the candle- READ THIS FIRST! It explains how to melt the candle properly. The box is pretty plain and doesn't scream SEXY CANDLE but is square and could easily be wrapped for gifting. Other than that there isn't much to know, I suppose.
    • Easy to use / dispense
    • Travel friendly
    • Would make a nice gift

Special Features

You are pouring hot liquid onto yourself or your partner and tantalizing the senses with warmth. I think this would be fabulous for a leg or back massage during foreplay.
    • Warming

Experience

It took about 20 minutes for my skin to not be oily or greasy after rubbing in the oil. The smoky aspect of the fragrance seemed to get stronger on my skin as time went on and I was not a fan at all.

I want to try some of the Jimmyjane candles and this one especially intrigued me.
Wish all of them came in sample sizes and sold individually.

Great review

Shellz- Thanks, and I definitely wish we could get individul sample sizes instead of the group of them! Wouldn't that be so great!

Excellent review! One more way to ensure that the way that gets dripped is cooler than it initially is upon melting is to vary the distance between the skin and the candle for dripping. For example, if you drip the way from two feet in the air, it will cool down a little bit in the air as it falls. Don't know if that helps you, but I'm glad you enjoyed the candle!

I love the Bourbon scent of these candles! It smells like My Man and that's good.

Good review. I find that burning these (expensive) candles for at least 30-45 minutes, until you have a good, even wax/oil melting on top prevents welling and ruining the candle. These are too pretty, sexy and expensive to waste.

Enjoy. You may want to get the Sampler of 6 different scents. We did and it got us hooked on these beautiful candles. I love when the aroma lingers in our bed after a massage for either or both of us.

I keep looking at these candles and want to try them. I'm not sure which scent to choose. Thanks for the review. I have the bourbon scent on my wish list, but I think I'll choose cucumber water as my first candle to experiment with.

  • Jimmy Jane Afterglow candles- Best Scent?
    • what's the best Jimmy Jane afterglow scent? or the better ones?
    • Well, first off, there are lots of threads on the scent of these candles already. But ignoring that, I think it's really up to your preference in smell.

In my experience, all the scents are fairly high quality, so it just depends on what you like. I personally favor the Dark Vanilla and Bourbon scents. My good friend prefers the Water Cucumber, while it is totally not for me. Some people love the Truffle Gardenia, but it's comparatively very floral. I would really like to try the Vetiver Honey in the ember series.

My recommendation would be to go with what is most similar to your usual favorite scent. Sweet edibles? Masculine spices? Flowers? Citrus? Or you could always try the sampler. More expensive but awesome :-)

Thank you for replying! I have read quite a few posts on the scents, but I'm still indecisive.

The special edition scents look tempting, but I would also like to make sure I purchase something both my partner and I would like. Also I kind of wanted to get a general sense of what is most widely liked. Which I feel I could have gotten with a poll, but unfortunately I am not sure how to do that. I did see a post explaining that to post a poll it the option is next to the post discussion option, but I have seen no such poll option.

  • Can you describe the scents of the Afterglow massage candles from Jimmyjane?
    • If your own words and from your own personal experience can you please describe what the different scents are like? I'm having trouble deciding on which ones to get. Thanks! =]
    • I did a review on the Afterglow Sampler set, but this is what I have with the scents.

Cucumber Water smells like a crisp, clear, watered down version of a cucumber melon scent, and is quite possibly my favorite. Pink Lotus has a decidedly floral scent to it; not overpowering but definitely there. It's hard to pinpoint anything more specific than "floral" for me on that one. Truffle + Gardenia (the special edition one, also available as a regular Ember candle) is also hard for me to pinpoint. It smells like an earthy floral to me, a more involved scent. Bourbon smells sweet to me, almost like molasses or something else I'd bake with. Dark Vanilla still smells like a generic "vanilla cookie" scent to me. And Grapefruit. To me, there's a hint of citrus and a whole lot more of something I can't put my finger on. When I first smelled it I thought back to the Habanero + Grapefruit mini Ember I have, only this is a little less spicy to the nose. JJ claims notes of grapefruit, bell peppers, and mandarin for this one.
    • Thanks! I think the ones I want to try most are Dark Vanilla, Cucumber Water, and the Truffle Gardenia... and the Bourbon. Jeez I want to smell them all. Choosing which to buy online is difficult but I'm sure whichever one I choose I'll love it anyway. =]

  • Afterglow Packaging
    • I was just curious - Jimmyjane has changed the style of the Afterglow candle to the "pour spout" that's rocked by the Ember. Is EF still selling the old style with the brush as indicated by the picture?

FYI I'm in favor of the pour divot format!
    • This is something I'd like to know, too. *Bump*
    • The new version features a spout for easy pouring and that is what currently available on EF.
