More for the Mind than the Body!

Although I'm not a bath person, I'm giving this four stars. It is great for someone who likes scented baths and needs to relax and unwind at the end of the day. It is a nice scent for a couple who want to bathe together and don't want a lot of bubbles or oil or salts. It would probably also be good for people who can't use bath salts.

I just happen to think this works better in conjunction with another bath product than on its own.

Use

There are so many types of bath products out there that it is often hard to choose what to use. Do you want bath salts, bath foam, bath milk - or something else? Each product has its own purpose and because of this, DONA has created several bath products. One of them is the chromotherapy bath treatment which is designed to color the water and enhance your mood with the color and aphrodisiacs. Another product is the bath foam which is designed for those who like bubbles in their bath. They carry bath salts which are designed to reduce inflammation and condition the skin. The bath milk is designed to nourish the skin with the properties of milk. Most of these products are designed with the body in mind - to do something to the skin whether it is to clean it with bubbles or nourish it with salts or milk.

Like their chromotherapy bath treatment, the herbal bath treatment is designed to work more with the mind, to help soothe and relax at the end of the day...or start the day with a relaxed mindset. When you choose to use this is up to you - but please be prepared that this product is designed to help you relax and unwind.

The ingredients in this are:

Glycerin, Panax Ginseng Root Extract, Ginkgo Biloba Seed Extract, Centella Asiatica Leaf Extract, Paullina Cupana Seed Extract , Ptychopetalum Olacoides Root Extract , Turnera Diffusa Leaf Extract, Arnica Montana Flower Extract, Pausinystalia Yohimbe Bark Extract, PPG-26 Buteth-26, Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Garcinia Mangostana (Goji Berry) Fruit, Fragrance

According to DONA, all of their products use vegetable-based glycerin and not animal-based glycerin. However, if you are concerned about problems with glycerin, you may wish to do a spot test by putting a small amount of this in a bowl of water and seeing if your hand reacts. That is about the only "spot test" I can think of.

Special note Due to back problems, it is hard for me to lay in a tub for very long and take baths. My daughter did the actual testing of this product in the tub, however, I also tested it by being in the bathroom for a bit with it in the water and also testing it in a bowl of water and having my hand set in it for a bit. My daughter gave me very detailed notes and they matched what I experienced from testing this in a bowl.

Texture / Consistency / Thickness / Viscosity

Those of you who follow my reviews probably know that I like to show pictures at this point. I tried and tried and tried to get pictures of the texture but this was the best I could do.

Since this product has oil in it, the best way I can describe it as you pour it out...is to picture pouring out some very thick oil that is colorless - and doesn't feel greasy. It is not super thick but it isn't thin like oil either.

After I took my hand out of the water, I could feel something on it - it wasn't an oily feel or a greasy feel. My husband said it was sort of a soapy feel but not a soapy film. Once I wiped my hand dry though (well, my hand and part of my wrist and arm I had in the water), I didn't feel anything. My body didn't really feel softer. It did feel cleaner though.

This product is very easy to measure into the cap and pour. The bottle recommends you use one to two capfuls per bath. My daughter used two capfuls and then found she wanted to add a third capful. I used one capful to four cups of water for my experiment.

Taste / Aroma

This is where this product gets interesting. Neither my daughter nor I tasted it, but we felt like it reminded us both of incense - possibly sandalwood or amber, but with a slightly soapy smell. The soap smell was very very light and if we weren't trying to analyze the scent, we might not have noticed it. My daughter stated that she felt like she was taking a bath with incense burning somewhere in the room and she didn't feel overwhelmed by the fact that the scent was actually in the water and coming up at her from there.

Performance

Let me start by showing you how little this bubbled up when put in the water that I did a test with.

Those bubbles faded away in less than 2 minutes and even though I put my hand in the water and swirled it around, they did not really come back. My daughter noticed the same thing in her bath - that it made a small amount of bubbles that quickly faded away. However, it is important to note that the purpose of this product is not to give a "bubble" bath but a "scented" bath experience.

My daughter said that she felt very relaxed while soaking in the tub. For a bit she said she felt like she'd put the tiniest bit of sea salts in the tub when she first used this and I thought I noticed the smell of salts when she called me into the bathroom to see what the scent was like. The scent literally filled the bathroom and extended out into the hallway (the door was open a bit). She said that after about 20 minutes, she did not notice the scent anymore. However, when I walked by the bathroom about an hour after her bath, I still caught a light scent from her bath lingering in the air near the doorway.

Both my daughter and I did not feel any residue on our skin after the bath/water test. Our skin did not feel any softer either.

One thing my daughter and I both noticed was that the scent that was in the air and the bathwater was not "fake" or "chemically". Several times my daughter stated that it reminded her of having incense burning.

Both of us felt very relaxed afterwards and in fact, I almost fell asleep doing my test with my hand and part of my lower arm in the bowl. The scent just kept wafting up and I could barely keep my eyes open, and I had just slept for 8 hours too!

We both noticed that we had a light amount of the scent on our skin for a while afterwards but it was a very mild scent and would not interfere with any other fragrances we might choose to wear.
    • Absorbs into skin nicely
    • Feels natural

Packaging

The bottle is somewhat discreet in spite of the fact that it talks about having aphrodisiacs in it. To get an idea of what size the bottle is, here is a picture of it next to a 20 ounce water bottle.

You will notice that at 6 ounces, the bottle is fairly small.

Personal comments

My daughter stated that while this was a nice product, she would prefer to use bath salts or possibly bath milk in her bath. She likes the relaxing feeling from salts and how they help her muscles relax.

I have not measured how many capfuls are in this bottle, but I would think that at 2 capfuls per bath, you could probably get 10-12 baths out of this. If I was going to use it for baths, I think that what I would do is use a bubble bath or salt bath product and then add 1 capful of this for a very light moisturizing scent in the air. Like my daughter, I would prefer to have more than just scent in the water and on my skin.
