Overpriced for what it offers: It's just a regular old body wash.

This product was not all that it was cracked up to be. I did not get any aphrodisiac benefits from this body wash, and the price was not something to be desired. There was little to no exfoliation, and this product does not set itself apart enough to be priced this high. In my opinion, it is worth about $4.99. Catch it on sale, and I'd say go for it - otherwise, I'd just let this product go to the wayside.

Use

I love the Dona line! Their products are cruelty free, paraben free, "natural," and free from petrol derivatives. Most of the products are fabulous, but some, like this product, are just too ordinary for the price. The Dona line consists of 20 different products and claims to be aphrodisiac infused - I have not experienced any of this. Dona by Jo is intended to be part of a daily bath and body ritual that consists of five steps: relax, cleanse, nourish, illuminate and engage. Each step has products that goes with it. Here is a quick list:

STEP 1: "Slow down and set the sensual tone" Relax using the following Dona products: Bath Milk, Massage Candle, Bath Salts, Sensual Chromotherapy (also colors the water), Bath Essence.

STEP 2: "To purify your body using luxurious lathers, exfoliaters, and gels" Cleanse using the following Dona products: Body Wash, Lingerie Wash,Body Polish, Shave Gel,Bath Foam.

STEP 3: "To make your skin touchable and kissably soft" Nourish using the following Dona products: Body Lotion,Body Butter,Body Mist Lotion.

STEP 4: "To enhance your natural beauty and space" Illuminate using the following Dona products: Lip Balm, Linen Spray, Shimmer Spray.

STEP 5: "To share the fun with sensual, play products" Engage using the following Dona products: Kissable Body Drizzle, Sensual Massage Oil Rose Petals, Pheromone Perfume Gel.

As you can see, the body wash is step two. I love the fact that it is designed to be used as a gentle, exfoliating, daily body wash. I find, however, that it does not effectively lather unless you use a loofah. Of course, when using any bath and body product, it is imperative that you do a patch test. This is a great way to make sure that you're not allergic to any of the components within the product.

Texture / Consistency / Thickness / Viscosity

This is a gel-based body wash. I have used a lot of other gel-based body washes, and I was quite disappointed with the fact that it did not lather up like a lot of the other less expensive products. Exfoliation was also an issue with this product. I felt as if there was just a layer of product over the top of my skin, but the product was not really able to penetrate my skin.

The gel is a bit runny, and for its thickness, I was quite surprised. The body wash was a little thicker than dish detergent but seemed to be as runny as the play bubbles from your local dollar store. Two or three pumps of this body wash is just enough to wash my entire body. The scent can be smelled on you for up to about two hours. After showering, it can still be smelled in a small bathroom for about an hour.

Taste / Aroma

With the body wash, I have the Camu Camu variety. Please note that the different varieties of the body wash are not, in fact, the smell, they are actually the names of the superfruit used to make the products. Just because the product has camu camu, or pomegranate, or mangosteen in them, doesn't mean that it necessarily smells like that. The camu camu body wash has sort of a vanilla and coconut smell in my opinion.

The Dona line by Jo consists of six superfruit varieties (not necessarily fragrances):
1. Acai- said to increase stamina.
2. Blue lotus- said to strengthen the bond between couples.
3. Camu Camu- said to energize, lift your mood, strengthen immune system.
4. Goji Berry- said to increase testosterone levels.
5. Mangosteen- said to help stimulate vitality and mood.
6. Pomegranate- said to have antiaging properties and gives you energy and vibrancy.

Because this product is not meant to be consumed, I will not bother to taste it.

Performance

When I first received this product, I was thankful for the pump! It makes life so much easier to just push down on the pump to get some of the product. I may even reuse the pump and bottle after all of the body wash is gone. The bottle is 9.5 ounces and comes with a safety seal. One of my body washes did NOT come with a safety seal. It is advised that you throw these products out and request another one, but I was so anxious that I just had to use it! A word of caution: if you already have the bath foam by Dona, this body wash has the exact same ingredients except for one - their moisturizer. Honestly, the moisturizer really does not do anything more than a $4.99 bottle of body wash would do. It is really not anything special.

The ingredients for the Dona body wash are: Purified Water (Aqua), Sodium C 14-16 Olefin Sulfonate, Sodium Cocoamphoacetate, Cocamidopropyl Hydroxysultaine, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Glycerin, Saccharide Isomerate, Sodium Chloride, Punica Granatum (Pomegranate) Fruit, Lycium Barbarum (Goji) berry, Coffea Arabica (Coffee) Seed, Euterpe Oleracea (Açaí) Fruit, Morinda Citrifolia (Noni) Fruit, Camellia Sinensis (Green Tea) Leaf, Garcinia Mangostana (Mangosteen) Pericarp Extracts, Propanediol, Citric Acid, Benzyl Alcohol, Methylchloroisothiazolinone, Methylisothiazone, Disodium EDTA, Fragrance.

Special Features

The aphrodisiac claim is totally empty, in my opinion. This did not make me want to get out of the shower and hump the closest thing to me like a jack rabbit. It seems that the aphrodisiac claim was just to attract sales, rather than to actually give you those types of feelings. That really disappointed me. My rating was based off of what the product actually claimed to do, and if this claim was substantiated.
Follow-up commentary
I love the smell of this stuff! I shower with it daily and it has become a daily ritual. I am definitely a fan of Dona bath products.

So sorry this was disappointing to you. I had very similar reactions -- felt that it was far overpriced, cheap soap and did not exfoliate. So far I've tried the soap, the exfoliator, body polish and today I tried a drop of the massage oil and the synthetic-as-hell scent wasn't as bad as the other products (this one I used today was gogi berry.) But I too am disappointed in the Dona line. I think people have hyped them up too much too, giving them a lot more credit than they're worth and leaving people to have higher expectations. In my experience, they've all been cheap, nothing special and definitely not something I choose over my other (natural and organic) soaps. No siree. So I try the Dona product one or two times and give them all away. I've given away every single Dona item I've bought. They just don't do it for me.

I would say just go for the Sliquid body wash! It's amazing for sensitive skin and for using downstairs. I bought a bottle for my twin sister who's prone to UTI's and I used it twice and liked it. It is a bit higher priced than this stuff, but you're getting natural ingredients, which are worth it. Oh, and the aphrodisiac claims. That just flat pissed me off to be honest. That was System Jo's way of duping people a little, making you think the high price might just be worth it. And then it comes across as the company isn't that honest, and that changes my opinion of them big time.

Well, I enjoyed reading your review very much and am actually glad to see I'm not the only one who gave a less than wonderful review on this. I was beginning to think there was something wrong with me for not adoring it! Everyone else seems to.
