This candle will make you feel like a glowing goddess!

These candles have been on my wishlist for so long and I'm so happy with this purchase! I want to buy the rest of them now because I'm curious about the different scents. The candle is lovely and the massage oil is slick and luxurious. It's everything that I hoped it would be and it didn't disappoint. I would highly suggest trying one of these candles!

Use

The Afterglow Massage Candle by Jimmyjane is a gorgeous candle that emits a golden glow and a light scent that adds a romantic touch to any room. It's not just any ordinary candle though! The oil from this candle is massage oil that feels thick and luxurious. It absorbs into the skin slowly so you'll have quite a bit of massage time. It'll leave your skin feeling silky and moisturized. The oil glides onto the skin with ease and is great for really deep kneading massages from your partner or just for your own personal use. You can give this candle to your partner as a romantic gift or even give it to friends. I personally bought my candle for my own personal use as a moisturizer for my arms and legs.

My favorite time to use my candle is when I'm unwinding in the evening. Sometimes I light it while I'm in the bathroom taking a shower. It works amazing on your legs after you shave! A lot of lotions can make me itchy and red but this didn't make me itchy at all. It makes my skin completely moisturized and glowing. I can't believe how healthy and nice my skin looks after using this candle!

I also like to light my candle while I'm in my room reading a book or on the computer. If you're in a small room you can bask in the afterglow from the candle, relax, and feel pampered. The scent is faint but it's just enough to make the room smell warm and sexy. I love this candle so much!

Texture / Consistency / Thickness / Viscosity

At room temperature the candle is solid. It's a light creamy off-white color. After you burn the candle for at least 30 minutes it starts to melt into a puddle like a normal candle would. It kind of reminded me of melted butter but it was very light in color.

The oil feels thick, warm, and smooth. It takes a little while for it to absorb into the skin which is great for massages. You wouldn't want to give a massage with an oil that dries up too fast. You want that sliding and gliding feeling to last. This oil definitely does that but it will completely absorb eventually. It leaves your skin completely moisturized and glowing. There is absolutely no stickiness to this oil. It can feel a little greasy if you use too much but if you continue to massage and rub it in it will eventually absorb and leave your skin moisturized and lightly scented.

The first candle I received (Black Currant) must have been an earlier version because it was in a square glass container and it didn't have the pour spout. The second candle I received (Dark Vanilla) was in a white square porcelain container that had the pour spout as pictured in the description. The newer porcelain container was slightly smaller in size. The pouring spout definitely makes it easier to pour!

Taste / Aroma

Black Currant - Black currants are berries that kind of remind me of Huckleberries. They are a dark purple almost black color. I've never actually tried them before but I did a little research online. It's a sweet and tarty flavor that's popular in candies/jams ect. in Europe. In my opinion this candle smelled like a mix of roses and dark ripe cranberries. It has that floral rose scent but when you really smell it deeply it definitely has that tart sweet note. The box has burgundy accent colors on it. I think if you could smell that color this is exactly what it would smell like. The description says, "This dark, ripe berry delights with a sudden, succulent pop. Black Currant is sweet, but not too sweet - like a good lover, accept the invitation."

The scent is definitely there but it's not overpowering. You can smell it when you massage the oil into your skin. I love scents that are strong and I find this to be the perfect balance! It made the room smell warm and sweet.

This massage oil isn't supposed to be edible and it's for external use only!

I haven't tried the Dark Vanilla yet but once I do I'll add the scent description here.

Performance

After letting my candle burn for a good 50 minutes the first time around I was expecting the oil to be scalding hot. I have never used a candle like this before so I really wasn't sure what to expect. I was surprised to find that the oil wasn't scalding hot at all, it was very warm and totally comfortable to the touch! Without the pour spout it was hard for me to control the amount of oil but it wasn't too bad.

The massage oil can last quite a long time if you choose to give someone a massage with it. Your hands glide through it so easily and gives you time to really work the muscles and make the massage last. I used it on myself on my arms and legs by slowly massaging the oil into my skin. I concentrated on my knees and elbows. It was really nice to just take my time and really massage my tired arms and legs. The oil was warm and felt really nice. It made me feel calm and cozy. It's perfect for using in the evenings before bedtime!

I could still feel the silky feeling left from the oil for hours afterwards. I didn't feel the need to take a shower because the oil soaked into my skin without leaving any stickiness behind. My skin was moisturized and velvety soft! This massage oil candle is heavenly.

I love the quality of the massage oil as well as the scent. I'm a sucker for anything tart and I love the scent of roses so this candle is perfect for me. It's so gorgeous when you light it because it glows and really sets the mood! It's so romantic! I'm glad that the newer versions have a pour spout because without it it's really easy to use way too much. You can pour the oil into your hand, dip your fingers in it, or use the included brush. When I used it I just poured it out into my hand. It was pleasantly warm and silky.

Packaging

The massage oil candle was packaged in a very pretty square box. The box is white and is color coded by scent. Black Currant is burgundy. The box opens up from the top and inside was a white cardboard insert that held a white box of matches, a small brush, the instruction booklet, and the candle underneath. The candle was covered in a sheet of tape that easily peeled off. I think they cover the candle this way to preserve the scent.

The Black Currant came with a massage brush and matches. The Dark Vanilla did not come with those items. Also, the matches were not as pictured in the description. My matches came in a very small minimal looking white match box and they had white tips. The brush reminds me of a blush brush that you might find in cosmetics. It's a flat rounded brush with a white handle. I love the design of everything. It's very classy! The brush shed a little when I first took it out of the box but it wasn't bad. It's a nice soft brush for it's purpose.

The instruction booklet is designed very well. It has instructions in many different languages. It explains how to use the candle, how long to let it burn, ect. It's really easy to understand and it's pretty simple. The whole package is very discreet and you could easily give this as a gift to friends. I doubt you'll want to give it away once you get it though! It's so nice you'll want to keep it for yourself. I wouldn't travel with this candle because if the weather is hot then your candle might get a little melty. I think it's something that's better left at home or on very short trips.

After I use my candle and it cools down and becomes solid again, I store it back in the original box. I put the little instruction book over the top of it.
    • Discreet looking packaging
    • Very informative packaging
    • Would make a nice gift

Special Features

This massage candle is made of natural oils such as shea butter, soybean oil, aloe vera, vitamin E, jojoba oil, ect. It's free of paraffin and dyes and has a lead free wick. The candle claims to burn for at least 42 hours! After you blow the candle out you have at least 30 minutes or more to use the candle before it becomes solid again.

Personal comments

The instructions say to burn the candle for 30 minutes but I burned mine for about 50 minutes. I burned it at night when the house was at a cool temperature. Burn the candle until the melted wax reaches all the way to the inside edges or as close as possible before you pour the oil out. Blow out the flame before you pour! Also use it in a room on a safe flat surface away from drafts. If you want an even burn you'll need to follow these directions or else your candle will start tunneling in the middle and we don't want that!

You can also trim the wick slightly after each burn. Make sure you do this after the candle is solid again. You don't want to drop any debris into the oil. I just barely snip the very tip off of the blackened wick. Don't cut too much off or the next time you burn it it'll be so short that the oil will put the flame out.

When the oil is still melted you can gently recenter the wick and make sure it's in the right position for next time. Overall just make sure you're careful with the candle and take good care of it!
Follow-up commentary
I still love my afterglow candles. The Dark Vanilla scent smells more like coconut than a dark vanilla to me. It smells really good though! It's a newer version so it had a pour spout. It was a lot easier to control than the older one. I use my afterglow candles at night after a shower when I feel like I need some relaxation and heavy duty moisturizing (like after shaving) I've never had any allergic reactions or anything like that. The candles also seem to be lasting a really long time. I love these candles! If you use too much it can get a little greasy so I find it best to wipe the excess off with a towel.

I have my fair share of skin problems and the candle hasn't made me broke out at all. It doesn't make me itchy either and I'm sensitive to a lot of things. I've only ever used the oil on my arms and legs and never had a problem with it! I think it's one of those things that will be different for everyone though depending on your skin type. For example, if you break out on your back and you get a back massage with this it might not be the best idea.

  • Jimmy Jane Afterglow candles- Best Scent?
    • what's the best Jimmy Jane afterglow scent? or the better ones?
    • Well, first off, there are lots of threads on the scent of these candles already. But ignoring that, I think it's really up to your preference in smell.

In my experience, all the scents are fairly high quality, so it just depends on what you like. I personally favor the Dark Vanilla and Bourbon scents. My good friend prefers the Water Cucumber, while it is totally not for me. Some people love the Truffle Gardenia, but it's comparatively very floral. I would really like to try the Vetiver Honey in the ember series.

My recommendation would be to go with what is most similar to your usual favorite scent. Sweet edibles? Masculine spices? Flowers? Citrus? Or you could always try the sampler. More expensive but awesome :-)

Thank you for replying! I have read quite a few posts on the scents, but I'm still indecisive.

The special edition scents look tempting, but I would also like to make sure I purchase something both my partner and I would like. Also I kind of wanted to get a general sense of what is most widely liked. Which I feel I could have gotten with a poll, but unfortunately I am not sure how to do that. I did see a post explaining that to post a poll it the option is next to the post discussion option, but I have seen no such poll option.

  • Can you describe the scents of the Afterglow massage candles from Jimmyjane?
    • If your own words and from your own personal experience can you please describe what the different scents are like? I'm having trouble deciding on which ones to get. Thanks! =]
    • I did a review on the Afterglow Sampler set, but this is what I have with the scents.

Cucumber Water smells like a crisp, clear, watered down version of a cucumber melon scent, and is quite possibly my favorite. Pink Lotus has a decidedly floral scent to it; not overpowering but definitely there. It's hard to pinpoint anything more specific than "floral" for me on that one. Truffle + Gardenia (the special edition one, also available as a regular Ember candle) is also hard for me to pinpoint. It smells like an earthy floral to me, a more involved scent. Bourbon smells sweet to me, almost like molasses or something else I'd bake with. Dark Vanilla still smells like a generic "vanilla cookie" scent to me. And Grapefruit. To me, there's a hint of citrus and a whole lot more of something I can't put my finger on. When I first smelled it I thought back to the Habanero + Grapefruit mini Ember I have, only this is a little less spicy to the nose. JJ claims notes of grapefruit, bell peppers, and mandarin for this one.
    • Thanks! I think the ones I want to try most are Dark Vanilla, Cucumber Water, and the Truffle Gardenia... and the Bourbon. Jeez I want to smell them all. Choosing which to buy online is difficult but I'm sure whichever one I choose I'll love it anyway. =]

    • I was just curious - Jimmyjane has changed the style of the Afterglow candle to the "pour spout" that's rocked by the Ember. Is EF still selling the old style with the brush as indicated by the picture?

FYI I'm in favor of the pour divot format!
    • This is something I'd like to know, too. *Bump*
    • The new version features a spout for easy pouring and that is what currently available on EF.
