Wetlook garter belt - garterbelt by Coquette - review by WhoopieDoo

Way back (before Halloween), I was in search for a garter belt to wear with my Halloween costume. All that I asked for concerning this garter belt was that it be black and fit me. As Halloween was swiftly approaching, and I so often fall between sizes, I ordered two belts from Coquette, one in OSFA, the other in XL (essentially a Plus OSFA). The other one (the Holiday Ruffled Garter Belt) turned out to be the one that fit, while this one was a little bit too large. Nevertheless, I'll be reviewing this size {as I'm always up for a bit of altering or upcycling later on).



This belt came packaged in some cellophane wrapping and on a plastic hanger. The tag was attached to the garment via tiny safety pin, as Coquette is wont to do.

Included: The garter belt.

The tag reads: 80% Nylon 20% Spandex Exclusive of Trim, Handwash Only, Hang to Dry.



I've decided that it would be advantageous to fold this thing in half rather than lay the whole thing out, as it's so freaking long (and not very tall at all). I really love wetlook fabric. It's so stretchy and breathable, with a lovely sheen to it.

I cannot find any defects in this garment. I can't think of any Coquette pieces I've had where craftsmanship has been a problem, though....but there have been several occasions where fit was just...wrong. Though that is the case here (the belt is too big), that is not Coquette's fault. They told me that I would fit the OSFA, and I didn't listen.



I personally prefer bra strap sliders on my garters to these, because these sliders always seem a little too wide for the straps, making them prone to being crooked, which annoys me. This is a small complaint, but there are people out there more anal than me (hardy har), so I thought it worth mentioning.

Sizing Information

I'm not really sure what Coquette is getting at here. This size is listed as "XL," but it obviously fits larger than that. There's a small tag on the belt that reads simply: "OS/XL," so that means it's really a "Queen One Size" right? Well....it's not so cut and dry. According to Coquette's size chart and my measuring tape, it would seem that this belt would fit XL and the Queen One Size range, so.....whatever.

For reference, my hip measurement is 42".

According to the size chart, XL fits hips 44 to 46 inches, and Queen One Size fits hips 48 to 56 inches.

So, by my reckoning, this belt should fit hips from, say....44 to 55 or 56 inches. It's very stretchy.



I have decided to don shorts underneath this belt for the benefit of you good people. Enjoy my covered-ness.

The belt, though a little big, actually did a pretty good job of holding up these stockings, but these stockings are very easy to hold up with garters (you know of what I speak; some stockings are just more adamant about coming down).



I LOVE that this belt has six garters. Sure, fastening garters can be a pain, but the look is worth it. Actually, Everyone knows that the back garters are much more difficult, so it isn't really 50% more hassle....more like....27% (yes, that number is arbitrary).



I'd prefer a strap in back to adjust the circumference of the belt (like in the Holiday Ruffled Garter Belt), but this isn't that big of a deal for me, and it's just an aesthetic thing.
