Baby, let's get KNOTTY!

If you're looking for something to spice up the bedroom, give the Japanese Silk Rope by Pipedream a go, and see how you like bondage. If you love it, you've got more than enough length in this product to try more advanced ties. If you don't, you're only out $12, and you can always use it for something around the house, I'm sure.

Use

Pipedream presents the Japanese Silk (?) Rope, a Fetish Fantasy Series item that is meant to do pretty much one thing, and one thing well -- tie someone up. Whether you are the one being tied, or the one doing the tying, I can't imagine you won't find at last some use for this product. I first purchased this Japanese Silk Love Rope by Topco about a year ago, because I wanted to tie my husband up and give him a blowjob. Where as that product was really meant for simply amateurs in the bondage department due to the length, this one provides much more length, and therefore is great for those just timidly testing the bondage waters, or for those who take the dive every night.

Design / Craftsmanship / Material / Size / Fit

I purchased mine in pink (because the black was out of stock, and I'm terribly impatient), and I found that the pink shown on the box is not at all the same pink that's inside the box. Inside the box is a gentle baby pink, whereas the box shows a much darker magenta-ish hue. Even though I don't have a lot of pink (and I absolutely loathe pink toys, because they're so cliche), I do find that I actually like the shade of this. To me, it's less intimidating because it's a softer color, and therefore is going to make our dive into the bondage pool less frightening (at least for me).

I do feel a bit misled by the name, however. This is called "Japanese Silk Rope", however it's made of cotton. The box itself doesn't tell me that, but the feel does, and so does the EF website with the product information. That being said, I think cotton is going to be a lot more forgiving on frequent use than silk would be (not to mention being much more affordable). This rope is soft to the touch -- it's not at all the coarse feel that you will often experience with ropes. You certainly won't get scratched up using this rope, at all (although, rope burns are a different story, entirely).

This rope is 35 feet (10.5 meters) long, with an inch on each end being tied off by a silver piece of tape to keep it from fraying. I haven't yet, but I plan to remove those tapes, tie two knots at the end, and then burn it to keep it from unraveling, because this tape is cheap and is already peeling back, and I can foresee this rope unraveling very quickly.

Performance

If you have very little experence with knot tying (as I don't), I would suggest checking out this video as it shows a gorgeous tie (the dragonfly sleeve) that is my personal favorite, as well as being very comfortable for those of us heavier folks who aren't contortionists. I also would give Twisted Monk a watch, as well; he's a great resource, especially for beginners.

Aside from the basic two column tie, and the dragonfly sleeve, I have not used this much. This is simply because my husband is deployed and it's not easy to tie yourself up all by yourself, so I'm just doing some testing until he gets back. From my experiences, however, I have no complaints whatsoever about this rope. The length is great, the color is nice, it's not falling apart (yet), it's inexpensive, and it's a very nice bit of rope for a beginner like myself.

That being said, I have read other reviews of people who are much more into the bondage scene than I am, who have stated that it doesn't hold up very well long-term, and starts to fray after a bit of use. With this I can only assume that your mileage may vary, and it really depends on how you're doing your ties, how often you're using it, the size/weight of the person being tied, as well as how tight or loose you're tying it.

Care and Maintenance

Being made of cotton, this puppy can simply be tossed in your washer and then put in the dryer. I have not had to wish mine yet, because it hasn't developed any stains or sweat to it, but when that happens, that's what I'll be doing. For smaller, spot-cleaning, a washcloth with soapy water will do the trick. Treat this like you'd treat a tee-shirt, because they're likely made of the same material. Don't, however, let it get wet and then ball it up and let it sit there, because it would be very easy for it to start to stink and/or mold internally.

Packaging

While the box is a bit on the tacky side, and not at all discreet, I don't really have many complaints about it. The front has a woman wearing a very, very skimpy pink and black thong, with obscenely pointy stiletto heels, who is tied up with her hands to her calves, showing off the rope. The sides show a different way of her being tied up (with a slight slip of the nipple on the right side) on each side, and the back shows an additional two ways of being tied, along with a little information on the rope. When you open the package, there's a plastic bag that holds your rope, that has been very nicely and carefully tied up. There is also a free blindfold provided, that is in its own plastic bag. Surprisingly, the blindfold keeps the light out very nicely, so if you're looking to add a bit more to your experience, pop this puppy over your partner's eyes, and bind away. Let it be noted that aside from the outside, there are absolutely no directions at all.

    • Not discreet
