Patches of Pleasure

Although Patchy Paul failed to steal my heart, he's still a wonderful addition to the collection and serves as a great stepping stone into the realm of more girthy toys. Intermediate to advanced users are sure to love his deep, rumbly vibrations, his adorable design, and his advanced features.

Use

Patchy Paul is a G-spot vibrator that is great for stimulating that area. He can also be used for clitoral stimulation, as well as stimulating other various parts of the body. It should be noted that Paul isn't safe for anal play as he has no flared base.

Those with roommates or children may want to consider something else for a couple of reasons. First off, this is definitely something that will catch the attention of anyone because of the bright color. Even if it's not obvious right away, it won't take long for the curious to figure out what it is. The second reason is that it's not the most quiet toy available. It can be heard through the blankets, and probably through a wall, so use with discretion if you want to avoid awkward inquiries!

Paul is completely waterproof, meaning that he's a fantastic toy for both dry and wet fun. Of course, this is one of my favorite features in this toy. He also has a wonderful handle at the base, making him easy to grip for either solo use, or use with a partner.

Paul is better suited for intermediate to advanced users because of his size and girth. However, beginners that prefer shallow insertion may also be able to have quite a bit of fun with this one.

Material / Texture

Fun Factory's entire G4 line is made with a high quality silicone shaft and a plastic base, earning them all a 10 out of 10 on the material safety scale. Paul has absolutely no taste or scent. The silicone is velvety to the touch and has a nice matte look to it. The velvet feel gives quite a bit of drag, so it's definately a good idea to have lube handy to make the experience more pleasurable. Keep in mind that reapplication may be necessary for longer sessions as well. Also, the silicone is pretty firm, so there's not much give, and the toy doesn't bend very much, as can be seen in this photo:

The plastic is in no way cheap at all -- it has a lovely glossy look and feel. The inside of the handle is shiny, and unfortunately it seems to already have a tiny scratch or two. It's not noticeable at all, but it's a sign that with use it may get scratched or even rub off eventually.
Now, for the texture! Besides the velvety feel, the only texture on this toy comes from the bumps. These bumps definitely add to the stimulation without being overwhelming. The texture itself should be sure to please both beginners and advanced users alike.
    • Bumpy
    • No odor
    • Not porous at all

Design / Shape / Size

Paul is designed amazingly. Looking at him, you can tell that he is top quality. Personally, I find Paul to be adorable. He's designed to look like a worm, with wonderful bulges that gradually get larger towards the base. At the tip, there's a very pronounced bulge for g-spot stimulation, that also has two adorable little eyes.

As can be seen above, the base is a nice glossy white color and has a hollow handle that makes Paul easy to grip in any position. Inside the handle, the plastic is a shiny silver color. On the back, there's a Fun Factory logo, which is where you put the magnetic charger.

For size, Paul starts out at around 1 1/4" diameter, and his bumps gradually increase to 1 5/8" diameter. The insertable length is 7 1/2", while the total length is 10".
If you want to take the length, you have to be able to take the girth. It may work for some beginners that like shallow insertion, but it'll probably be more suitable for intermediate to advanced users.

This toy is not very discrete, and is rather intriguing, so it wouldn't take someone long to figure out what it is. You may want to leave it at home and hide it well unless you want to give prying eyes a reason to look closer.

Functions / Performance / Controls

The functions and controls are fantastic. I wish that all toys were as great as this one in that aspect. There are three buttons on the front of the toy. There's a plus, a minus, and an asterisk. The plus button turns on the toy after being held for a few seconds and increases the vibration level if pressed once the toy is on. The minus button decreases the vibration level and turns off the toy if held for a few seconds. The asterisk takes you through the four different pattern modes. The pattern modes include a rumble, a pulse, a deeper pulse, and a fast escalation pattern. Although the patterns are wonderful, I prefer to just use the steady vibration option.

Something that I'd like to add is that the control panel is made wonderfully. There's nowhere for water to leak in and damage the toy, which is often a concern I have with other toys that claim to be waterproof.

All of Fun Factory's G4 toys are charged with something called Click n' Charge. This is just a fancy way of saying that they're magnetically charged. This is another sign of high quality, and also contributes to the true waterproof factor. The charger connects to the Fun Factory logo on the back of the handle (see picture in the Design/Shape/Size section). Another cool thing about the G4 line is a technology that Fun Factory calls "Magic Touch." When you touch the toy, the buttons light up, indicating that Paul (or whichever toy you have) is ready for use. I've gotten him to light up by touching the buttons, the inner handle, and the base, so there may be multiple places that triggers the Magic Touch, but I can't say for sure.

Now for the performance -- the part that keeps Paul from winning my heart. The vibrations are centered at the widest part of his shaft, and seem to carry through the handle more than they do through the rest of the toy. I really wish that they had placed a second motor in or at least near the tip. I require pretty strong vibrations to achieve orgasm, and Paul seems to struggle a little bit to bring me over the edge. Another disappointing aspect is that his battery only lasts 30-45 minutes on the highest power, which often times isn't enough play time for me. This means that I either have to be very warmed up, or I have to have another vibe on my clit in order to reach satisfaction before Paul dies. The search for the perfect vibrator continues!

Care and Maintenance

Care for this toy is relatively easy, especially since Paul is waterproof. Wash before and after every use with warm water and a mild soap or a toy cleaner.
Make sure that you steer clear of any silicone lube while using this toy, or any other silicone toy, as it is incompatible and may ruin it.
Another thing to keep in mind is that it cannot be stored with other silicone toys, which would also put Paul in danger of being ruined.
    • Easy to clean

Personal comments

For me, Paul was a way of testing the waters. I've only used up to 1 1/2" diameter toys before Paul, and I figured that he would be a good choice because of his gradual increase in diameter. He definitely is a good stepping stone, but he didn't quite manage to win my heart due to the amount of play time that you get with him and the fact that the vibrations just don't carry quite as well as I had hoped. In terms of my satisfaction, he earns 3.5 stars, but because of the amazing quality and features, I'm rounding it up to 4 stars.

Great review, thanks! Your pictures were very helpful. I think a charge only lasting 30-45 minutes would not be enough for me - that's not very long at all! I also agree with you that they should have put the motor closer to the head.

  • Fun Factory G4 Click n' Charge question - when is it done charging?
    • GZekko
Hey everyone, my brand new G4 Patchy Paul is charging up for the first time. The manual says that the head of the click n charge connector has a light that will turn off when the charging is done, but it's been charging over a day now, uninterrupted, and all that happens is the light will slowly pulse, not turn off. Does anyone have experience with the G4 Fun Factory products that they can confirm how you can tell when charging is complete? Is my product borked, or is the manual mistaken? None of the above?
      Thanks for any help!
    • I think the light that changes (from red to green) is actually on the charger (where it attaches to the outlet). There is a red light when charging, and it turns green when done. I didn't understand that for a while either.

      Thanks for the reply.
My charger has a red led on the plug that goes into the wall outlet, that lights up once it's plugged into the wall, regardless of what is happening with the charger. Haven't seen it change colors or turn off unless removed from the wall.

It seems the "Fun" logo on the magnetic end doesn't pulse/glow when charging the toy after the toy has run for a little bit of time, it just is steady and bright. So it might be safe to say that it starts to pulse/glow when charging is done, if it weren't for the directions saying so explicitly that the light "turns off" when done charging. Here's what the manual says:

"The FUN logo’s red light on the magnetic plug indicates when the vibrator has been charged. The “red light” switches off as soon as the process is complete. The toy is now totally charged and the »FUN Magnetic
Plug« can be removed from the vibrator."

Anyone else with any experience or thoughts?

  • Should I get them all?
    • I love the look and descriptions of all the g4 vibes. I have the calla. I'm considering making it a set and getting them all. Opinions? Am I crazy?
    • They are different enough in shape to make it logical. Could get very expensive, though.
    • I'd get them all... if I was rich! Those are expensive.

  • FunFactory G4 Vs Lelo Mona?
    • I'm looking at Patchy Paul, and have never tried a FunFactory toy before. How strong are they compared to Lelo toys?

I love that they have a handle.
    • I think the LELO toys are in general much firmer than the G4 toys would be? That's all I feel certain about, but I don't have either of those specifically. Oh, and the controls and charging are different.
    • Hrm... ok, so less firm. How's the vibration as far as frequency goes compared to a lelo?
