Use

The Paul is one vibrator in the G4 line from Fun Factory. Yes, it looks like a worm. Yes, it has a cute little face. Yes, both of those things make it a teensy bit odd. You'll forgive the slightly creepy design once you try the Paul, as its deep rumble is sure to win you over.

The design gives you some flexibility in how you use the Paul. It can be used externally or internally. If you use the Paul externally, you can rest the shaft against your clitoris for a broader stimulation or use the bent head for a more pinpoint stimulation. When you use the Paul internally, you can use it for g-spot stimulation. The head allows you to reach your g-spot without needing to angle the entire shaft of the toy. The head flexes well, but is firm enough to really target your g-spot. You can also use it for thrusting. It gives you a nice sensation of stretching as the shaft gets gradually larger in diameter, and you get the added bonus of G-spot massage from the angled head.

The Paul is not designed to be used anally, and the manufacturer cautions against it. It has no flared base, and nothing to prevent it from being pulled in too far. It could be used for stimulation of other erogenous zones, such as the nipples and testicles. Because it has a bit of bend and flex, the Paul isn't very well suited for massage if you enjoy a firm pressure. If you just want to add a little rumble to your massage and will provide the pressure yourself, Paul is up to the task.

As the shaft of the Paul gets gradually wider from the tip to the base, you can choose how much you wish to insert. Perhaps you aren't interested in inserting a vibrator deeply; Paul gives you the option of choosing the length you'd like.

The Paul is a nice toy for couples play, as it is forgiving enough to be gentle on your cervix if it is inserted too far or too firmly. Even if your partner gets a little carried away, you won't mind. It's a great toy to use vaginally during oral sex, as there is no clitoral arm to get in the way of your partner's movements.

It could be used in the shower or tub as well. Paul could even take a dip in a swimming pool or hot tub!

Material / Texture

The Paul is made from silicone and plastic. The handle with the controls is hard plastic, which rates an 8 out of 10 on the Eden Safety Scale. The insertable portion is made of silicone, which rates a 10 out of 10 on the Eden Safety Scale. The Paul is body safe, phthalate free, latex free, hypoallergenic, and made of food-grade material.

The texture of the surface of the silicone portion of the Paul is similar to the other vibrators in the G4 line. It has a rough, almost sandpaper, texture in some spots. There is a great deal of drag if you slide your finger over the surface of the toy. I don't notice the rough texture while I am using it, so it isn't really a negative feature. Aside from the roughness of the silicone itself, the Paul has no texture to speak of. There are no extremely high nubs or bumps. There is little to no smell to the material, and no taste to speak of. The silicone isn't sticky, it has a matte surface. It does tend to collect lint and hair, as the rough texture holds on to things. There is some flexibility to the toy, but only for the first several bumps of the shaft. Most of the shaft cannot be bent much because of the core which houses the motor, and the handle is hard plastic and inflexible.

Paul is beginner friendly, because it allows you to decide how much of the length to use and it has a soft, forgiving surface. It heats to your body temperature well and feels nice against your skin for external and internal play.

Design / Shape / Size

The insertable portion consists of Paul's head and body. The head is angled, but the body is straight. All along the length of the toy are slight bulges and indents to mimic the body of a worm or caterpillar (whichever you decide Paul most looks like; I went with worm).

The total length of the toy is 8 1/2", with a 6" insertable length. Paul's head is 1 1/2" long, and 1 1/8" wide. The bumpy segments of the shaft gradually increase in size, ranging from 1 1/8" to 1 5/8" in diameter.

The handle of this toy is a marvel of design. The finger loop, which measures 1" by 1 1/2", is comfortable to hold for long periods of time, and your hand will not tire or grow numb. It allows you to place a finger or two inside the loop and cradle the rest of the toy in your palm. It is an ergonomic and comfortable design, and allows for comfortable thrusting and angling of the toy. When you place your hand around the handle, the buttons respond and light up, so you can see the controls if you happen to be in the dark!

One thing that the Paul doesn't have going for it; I wouldn't call it discreet. Not only is it bright green and shaped like a worm, it's also fairly obvious it's a sex toy. It isn't a toy you could leave out on your bookshelf and people might just think it's some sort of art. I personally wouldn't travel with it, but if you do, I suggest you put it in your checked bag and be prepared for some raised eyebrows from the TSA.

Functions / Performance / Controls

The controls of the Paul are very user friendly. There are three buttons: a plus, a minus and a star. Pressing the plus button turns it on. Pressing the plus again cycles you through the levels of intensity. I really enjoy Paul, as the intensity is amazingly strong on the higher levels. There are 5 in all. Pressing the minus button will cycle you down through the levels.

The star button is the boost button, which will cycle you through the patterns. You can press the star button on any of the five intensity levels, and it will change to a pattern but remain on the intensity setting you started with. The patterns consist of three different speeds of pulse and a rolling pulse. I'm not a pattern person, so I tend to stick with the steady settings when using this toy.

The vibrations themselves transfer very well throughout the entire toy. The nose and the head seem to provide the strongest vibrations. The Paul is very quiet considering how much power it provides. I'd say that you wouldn't be able to hear it through a closed door, no matter what setting you are using. It is completely waterproof and submergable. After multiple trips to my bathtub, it is still going strong.

The Paul uses the Fun Factory Click and Charge technology. The plug-in adapter has a magnetic disc that attaches to the toy. On the handle of the Paul is a small "FUN" logo, and when you hold the charger disc close to that spot, it clicks right on. When it's charging, the wording on the disc glows red. Be aware that it can be a little tricky to get it to stay charging. If the disc gets shifted it may lose its connection, so be sure to put it somewhere it won't be bumped while it's charging. On the higher settings, my fully charged Paul can last up to 45 minutes. It will last longer on the lower settings.

Care and Maintenance

You can use a mild soap and water or a toy cleaner to clean the Paul. Because it has a motor, you can't boil it to sterilize it, or place this toy in the dishwasher. You should avoid using silicone lubes to avoid a negative reaction with the silicone of the toy. Any water based lube can be used with the Paul. You may need a bit of lube because of the rougher texture of the silicone. I find that using a bit of lube when you start playing works well, and helps make inserting the toy easier until I make enough of my own natural lubrication.

The Paul can be stored in the box it came in, which is well designed for storage. If you choose to store it somewhere other than the box it came in, be sure to avoid storing it in contact with other silicone toys. If you store silicone toys touching each other, they will damage each other.

Packaging

The Paul is packaged in a very thoughtful way. There is an outer sleeve, and an inner box. On the outer sleeve, the toy is pictured (life size) on the front and sides. The outer sleeve also notes that the toy is made of silicone, has multiple speeds, and is a vibrator. There is also an amusing pictograph which advises you to not insert the toy anally. Inside the inner box, there is the toy itself, the charger and the instruction booklet. The Paul is held in place with a plastic form, to keep it from moving around inside the box.

I was impressed with the paperwork that came with this toy, as it's very detailed. In my Calla box, there was just a teeny booklet with mostly pictures to direct me on how to use the toy. The Paul really spells out the controls and caring for the toy. It was a nice change to have something to read over that could help me become familiar with the buttons and features.

    • Good for storage
    • Not discreet
    • Would make a nice gift

Experience

As a G-spot vibrator, this is one of my top 5 favorites. I like using it internally and externally, and it has an amazing amount of power. I enjoy the entire G4 line because the motors are strong with one heck of a rumble. They are easily 4 vrooms, maybe 4.5 vrooms, and have such a deep rumble that you'll love them whether the design is a weird worm staring at you or a flower.

If I tuck the Paul inside my outer labia and switch him on, I can count on a very rapid series of orgasms with little to no effort or movement on my part. When I use the Paul internally, that bent little head rubs my G-spot with each thrust and blows me away every time. There really isn't a way to use Paul that I haven't found successful. I really enjoy backing off the intensity a bit, and then suddenly increasing it up to the maximum.

I also enjoy using Paul with my husband. If you've read any of my other vibrator reviews you know I enjoy a vibe internally while he goes down on me. The Paul is perfect for that, too. Starting on a low setting, the oral paired with the deep rumble really gets my motor running. At just the right time, he cranks up the power on the Paul and I see stars!

This is a solid, well made and admittedly quirky toy. It adds a touch of whimsy to your toy box, and don't we all need a bit more whimsy in our lives?

Follow-up commentary
This one is still a favorite, no doubt about it. Paul still is a part of my regular rotation, and that isn't likely to change.
