An A for EffortThis DVD contains some really beautiful scenic shots, some very innovative sex scenes, and a dark storyline unlike that of any adult DVD you have ever scene. This DVD is very interesting and entertaining, however it just not really my cup of tea. I felt that there was too much movie, and not enough porn. But if you are looking for something different, or appreciate longer drawn-out adult movies, then I would recommend it.
This DVD is definitely something unique and unlike any other.
Confusing, different is not always better.
The vibe and tone of this movie are that of a well-shot, low budget 'B-Movie'. The dialogue and acting are more porn than Hollywood, so even though it strives to be more than your average porn movie it is still very grounded in the caliber of acting we have all come to expect from porn. The storyline is very confusing and feels pointless at times. The deeper meaning of the movie seems to focus more on it not making sense, which seems kind of cheap and again very 'B-Movie'.
This movie was shot on location all around the world over the course of five years, and I can't help but think that the storyline attempts to string together all of these unrelated scenes. I feel bad painting such a negative picture of the movie, as some people will probably enjoy it a great deal; however, I think most will not. The scenic scenes are pretty amazing though. They went to some very beautiful exotic locations, and some of the longer drawn-out shots allow you to absorb some of these locations. I guess for me that was the highlight.
After watching the DVD, I got to participate in the discussion with the star of the movie Tabitha Stevens, and her husband and director of the film Gary Orona. They were so cool, and I do really appreciate the fact that they are trying to break away from the mainstream and produce movies with sex, rather than just plain old porn. Sanatorium is an easy movie to admire and compliment, as it does go above and being your average mainstream release in every way, during every scene. They said that they have more projects like this that they plan to work on in the future; I am excited to see how they grow after doing this one.
There is way too much movie going on here to review this like a porn DVD, yet the movie itself is a series of confusing events that don’t really seem to have much to do with each other. If you took one of the stranger David Lynch movies and added some random sex scenes, you would be on the same wavelength as this movie. Although now that I have said that, I picturing the ‘Elephant Man’ with sex scenes - and while that might be awesome, it is a little misleading. Try to picture ‘Lost Highway’ with a bunch of sex scenes.
