Fun for Girls AND Boys!

This is a great vibe. It's not small. You need an AC outlet to use it, and it's relatively loud, but it's not designed to be a discreet portable vibe. It's designed to be a jackhammer of a vibrator, and it does that exceedingly well. It will provide you and your partner with as many orgasms as you can handle.

Pros:
Powerful vibe
Cons:
None, really. Perhaps too addictive?

Use

The Magic Wand is a powerful vibrator that has been popularized by its effectiveness for clitoral stimulation. Unlike most sex toys, this vibrator is just as effective on the male glans. It can also be used to massage muscles, which purportedly was it's original purpose (though I have my doubts!). I find it isn't heavy enough or powerful enough to use regularly as a muscle massager, though it might work for those who prefer very light massage.

Material / Texture

The Wand's head is about the size of a tennis ball, and seems to be made of some sort of soft plastic. It has some texture to it and isn't completely smooth. Since the head isn't perfectly spherical, it offers a few different surfaces to use - the flattish top, a rounded edge, the curved sides, and the narrow depressed band around the side of the head.
    • No odor

Design / Shape / Size

The Magic Wand is about 12" long, and comes with a 6ft cord. So this isn't a discreet toy, and the noise it produces ensures that. Because of the length of the toy and it's heft, for longer sessions, I find it helps to hold the wand closer to the head. Most of the weight is near the head, so by holding it closer to the head, it is better balanced in your hand- for the nerds out there. I found the cord a little too short for convenient use, but that issue was quickly solved with an extension cord.

Functions / Performance / Controls

The wand has two speed settings. For genital use (male or female), I have found only the lower setting is necessary. Since it's AC powered, the wand is a powerful vibrator, and the rather loud buzz is the trade-off. I have used it on quite a few female partners, mostly with great and orgasmic effect. One found it just too intense and even a few minutes was enough to desensitize her clit for some time.

I've used it on myself more times than I'd care to admit. It's just so easy and effortless to bring myself to orgasm. In fact, it's almost too quick, but if you can control yourself, it makes for great edging play as you can easily bring yourself to the brink of orgasm many times. For solo play (for guys), I find it works best with porn, which helps to distract from the noise.
    • Easy to use
    • Not very discreet
    • Powerful

Care and Maintenance

The wand is not submersible in water. The head can be cleaned by wiping down with a soapy rag or a rag/towel soaked in isopropyl alcohol. I tend to do the latter, wiping down the handle as well. While this wouldn't eliminate certain viruses (e.g., hepatitis), it's fine for personal use, or if you leave it out to dry for several days between use with a partner.

Personally, since I use the wand on myself and multiple partners, I opt for the extra safety of a condom. Just pull a condom over the head, use, and discard the condom. No cleanup, no worries.

For those who don't use condoms and want to give the head a really good cleaning, you can pop the head off, but I find this to be too much effort to be a regular practice.

Good review. Wow, what kind of condom do you use that fits over the head of the Hitachi? I only use non-latex condoms and none of them are stretchy enough.

Regular sized latex condoms will fit, no problem. And you can always buy latex condoms in bulk to get the cost down to ~20 cents per condom.

I think we might finally have to try this

I don't care if it's loud. I still want it really bad. The only problem is having roommates. :/

@twistedfinger: I think a lot of people exaggerate how load this is. Sure, it's much louder than a battery powered vibe. But it's not nearly as loud as a vacuum cleaner.

I gave it a 3/5 on noise level. Other reviewers gave it a 4/5 or even 5/5. But let's look at how EF describes the noise levels:
-Noise Level: 3/5
Moderate noise level, similar to a small appliance, can heard through covers and probably through a closed door.
-Noise Level: 4/5
Fairly loud, comparable to a large appliance, definitely heard through covers and easily heard through a closed door.
-Noise Level: 5/5
Extremely noisy, the neighbors can probably hear this power tool cranking!

I suppose 4 is debatable, depending on the large appliance you have in mind. But 5 is a joke - either that or those reviewers have never heard actual power tools.

If you have your own room, just close the door and turn on the radio (and you don't have to blast the music to cover the vibe's noise).

I want this so much. Though, I'm not sure if the problem will be how loud the Wand will be, or how loud I will be!

Great review as well.

  • Good alternative to Hitachi?
    • I had a rechargeable mini fairy wand, but last week it ended up breaking, and now I'm desperately looking for a similar type wand massager. I've looked at a couple, but I'd really like some input on which massager people are recommending. Thanks!
    • I have 3 wand massagers that I use at times. There are things I love and hate about all of them. The hitachi is the most powerful one, but it is so loud! The Wahl 2 speed is also great. It is the quietest and I love how rumbly the vibes are! But none of the attachments are quite right for me. If I could only have one wand I would get Inspire. It has a button that you press and release when the power is at your desired strength. In stead of just 2 speeds like the hitachi or the wahl you have control over how much power you want to use. The Inspire has a detachable silicone head. My complaints are that it gets hot after about 20 minutes, at at the higher speeds it gets pretty loud. Your toy was rechargable, but the wands I listed all plug in and have more power. Good luck with your replacement!

Ooh, thanks! Yeah, the rechargeable wands tend to get really hot too, plus it would die after 20-30 minutes, so I needed to stay near an outlet at all times. Noise isn't really an issue for me (at least not right now). The one I had before had an adjustable wheel for vibration intensity, but to be honest, I always turned it all the way up and never changed it, so maybe I don't really need adjustable speeds.

I've never tried any of the detachable heads. Are they worth buying?

  • Will it be out of stock until the sale is over?
    • Ekk! It is out of stock again! I keep missing it. I finally have enough to buy it but I guess the discount made it sell like crazy. Does it typically not come back in until the sale is over?

Panicing a bit because I'm moving soon and will need to purchase it within the next week.
    • You can open a support ticket from your account dashboard to ask about it. If they know when it'll be coming in they'll be happy to tell you.
    • Perfect! Thank you!

  • Strength
    • Are there any stronger vibrators out there?
    • Quote: Are there any stronger vibrators out there?
Probably not for less than fifty dollars. A friend of mine is saving for the Sybian or The Rock Box. I can't speak from experience about either of those vibrators though. However, if you want something similar to the Hitachi, I would suggest either The Wahl or a Fairy Wand. I own the Hitachi, Wahl, and Fairy Mini but highly suggest the Wahl. It is the most rumbly of the three and is nearly silent.

I think the Hitachi is the strongest vibe i know of.

  • Hitachi Wand Vs. Acyvube
    • Is the hitachi better than the acuvibe for anyone who has had the chance to try both? I'm under the impression that they are essentially the same thing but maybe I'm wrong...
    • I have had both, and they are really both very good toys. The main difference really is that the Acuvibe is rechargeable and can be used cordless, while the Hitachi must plug in to work. Personally, I think that the Hitachi is slightly stronger, and it has definitely outlasted my Acuvibes - I have had two, and they both broke down after about six months or so.

We are going on 3+ years on the acuvibe. The shell is starting to crack but it still functions great, I just wanted to know if we should switch when I do want to buy a new one. More powerful sounds good :)

  • The Size !!!!!!!
    • Does the size get in the way ??????? It's so BIGGGGGG........
    • In the way of what, exactly? It's not really a toy for couples play and actually it's not even designed for masturbation but has become the Holy Grail of vibrators through decades of word of mouth.
    • Quote: Does the size get in the way ??????? It's so BIGGGGGG........
It's really only meant for external use. So if you are talking about insertion it probably would be a bit big.

    • Is there a head set for universal attatchments anyone knows of?
    • There are a few. If you search the site you can find a couple.
    • Quote: Is there a head set for universal attatchments anyone knows of?
I don't know if I understand the question, but the attachment we bought for our Hitachi is a "universal" attachment that we bought from another store. It's too "floppy" for me, but is a nice g-spot attachment, or would be if it was a little stiffer!

  • Bullet Vibes that rival the Hitachi Magic Wand
    • Hello, everyone!

Recently I've sold my Hitachi to a friend, and I've been on the market for a new clit vibe. I'm one of those girls who has a "clit-o-steel&quo t;, so I can't really get off unless I have something powerful on my clit. I bought a LAYAspot by FunFactory, thinking it would be a nice, powerful bullet to use when I'm with my partner, and I realized that it barely even packs a punch!

I guess I'm being a bit picky. I don't want something that's as strong as the Hitachi's HIGH setting, but something kind of inbetween the two, one that has a few nice, strong modes.

I was looking at the more expensive clit vibes- JeJoue's MiMi and Lelo's Siri. Do you think that they would be strong enough? Do you recommend anything? Thanks guys!

U had the flexi anal rod prior to the Hitachi..It is strong as well, and it probably right between the hitachi hi and low... I actually prefer the two setting on Hitach..SHIT and OHH SHIT.. The flexi rod has about 4 if i'm not mistaken..Plus it is flexible as well.. Costs about 25.00

Its on a review of mine already..

  • Hitachi
    • This is by far the best purchase I've made. My wife has a tough time reaching orgasm and needs the intense vibrations for her to climax. The Hitachi far exceeds this task, she doesn't use any other toy now, always reaches for the Hitachi. Just need to get her the G-spot attachment and she is set up. Thanks again.
    • I completely agree. The Magic Wand is the best vibrator ever.

  • Have you ever used a wand?
    • HI I was wondering if you have ever used anything like the Fairy Wand? I have used the baby fairy wand but its tiny... the size of the larger ones kind of intimidate me ... what are your thoughts on them and should I get one?
    • I dislike most of them intensely. They're too strong, too big and they make my whole vulva - as well as my hands - feel numb.

      Many folks love them, though!
    • I used the Wanachi Mini, which I really liked. Unfortunately it fell apart, it seems mine wasn't the only one either. I did contact Pipedream though and they seem eager to correct this problem!
